About an hour before their intended arrival, Alison had called together her cadets to give them a quick briefing on what they would be doing. They would be ready, and hopefully would be able to get some really nice scans.

She hated the waiting part of things, but it came with the game. There was only so much they could do though until they arrived in the system.

As the Challenger dropped out of warp, she looked over at the assembled cadets.

=/\= Davis to Department Heads. We have arrived at our location and begun our scanning patterns. =/\=

=^= Understood Captain. We have started our scans. =^=

“Alright everyone you know what to do. Cadet Austin, you are heading up the team working on updating our stellar cartography maps. Cadet Wisniewski, you are leading the team scanning the ruins. Let’s get to work people, and let me know if you need any additional support.”

Lt Barr - CSO

“Yes, Lieutenant,” Stan said, as the various science officers got to work throughout the lab. He hoped he wasn’t smiling too much, he didn’t want it to be too obvious how excited he was about this mission. Archaeology was one of his areas of concentration at the Academy- he loved it because it was another way to learn about new cultures…even if they are no longer around to talk to you.

True, it sounded like the mission only involved conducting scans from the Challenger, not getting to do field work, which was the most exciting part. Can’t expect to have all the fun on your first mission, Stach, he thought.

He arrived at the consoles that were receiving the data from the sensors that he and his team and previously programmed to gather as much information as possible about the Valakian ruins on the moon. Data about the age, material composition, and other characteristics of the ruins was about to come flooding in, along with the best visual images they could gather.

Stan sat down at a console and eagerly started poring over the results of the first scans.

The XO’s voice came through the lab’s speakers. =^= Holmman to Lieutenant Barr. Can you send a two-person science team to the transporter room to join the Captain and I on an away team to the surface? =^=

-Cmdr. Eric Holmman, XO (cross-post)

=^= Understood Commander. =^=

“Austin, Wisniewski. Grab your gear, sounds like you’ve got moved up to the big leagues. I’m guessing they are heading down to the ruins, so grab what you need and get going. And bring me back some great samples!” she called out to them.

Turning back to the console, it looked like she was going to be doing the mapping of the system. Spinning in her seat she looked over the existing map and started recording the scan data.

Lt Barr - CSO

While Stan was looking over the scan data at his console, he couldn’t help but overhear the XO’s call down to the Lab. It sounded like there was going to be some field work after all.

When Lieutenant Barr called his name as a member of the away team, he couldn’t contain his enthusiasm. “Yes, Lieutenant!”, he said, as he quickly spun around in his chair and literally jumped to his feet. Fortunately, he managed to stick the landing.

He headed over to the lab’s supply closet and filled a field kit with a tricorder, some additional scanning devices, and some equipment for collecting and storing samples. When the kit was filled, he closed it, slung it over his shoulder, and walked out of the science lab with his fellow cadet.

This mission just keeps getting better, he thought as he headed to the Transporter Room.

OOC: Dan and Mason, go ahead and hop on over to the Transporter Room thread, before the XO starts getting hangry! lol

Steve

Alison looked over at Austin, “Actually stay here, I need your help in looking over this data. For now keep an eye on the data coming in from the ruins. See what sort of data we are getting there right now. I’m going to start parsing through the updates to the stellar maps. Sound good? Once the maps start updating, we’ll be able to go through the updates and see if there is anything interesting that jumps out.”

Nodding to Austin she moved over to one of the large status displays and grabbed a stool. “Computer, begin long range cartography scans. As data comes in, compare to latest revision from Starfleet Cartography.”

Lt Barr - CSO

The XO’s voice came over the comms.

=^= Holmann to Lt. Barr. We found some ruins but we don’t know the origins. Can you see what you can make of it with Challenger’s library? It would be helpful to see what species was here and where they came from. I’m uploading my tricorder scans now. =^=

-Cmdr. Eric Holmman, XO (cross-post)

Pushing herself back from the console, Alison rolled the chair she was sitting on over to a nearby comm panel.

=^= Sure thing Commander. Give us a few minutes to take a look through our database. =^=

As she waited for the scans to be uploaded to the Challenger, she pulled herself down the line of consoles and by the time she got to the next one, she was able to pull up the data and not have to back out of the analysis she had already started.

With the data on the screen, Alison started breaking down the main features of the ruins so they could run an analysis.

“Has anyone seen Cadet Marsh?”

Lt Barr - CSO

Several minutes after the XO’s call over the comms, Cadet Wisniewski’s voice came through.

=^=Wisniewski to Lt. Barr. I have taken several samples from the ruins, if you want to beam some of them up the Lab. I will also analyze some of them with the equipment I brought with me. =^=
