The transporter beam shut off as the process was complete and Noah did his best to get his breathing back under control. He completed his routine of flexing first his fingers, then toes, before allowing himself to open his eyes. It was hard to beam yourself some place when you had spent months studying all the ways these things could break and even spent some downtime looking up the grisly results of what happened when they did break.

Staring at him with a mixture of concern and amusement was the transporter operator. “Another cadet?”

“Yes.” Noah fumbled a salute as he remembered his formalities. “Cadet Noah Parata. Engineering.”

“Know where you’re going Cadet?”

“Yes,” he lied confidently.

She nodded in satisfaction that she had done what she had to do. “Off you go then, it’s a busy day today.”

He nodded and left, taking long strides as he fumbled with the datapad in his pocket trying to remember who he was meant to go find.

“Cadet Parata?”

He turned around to look at the transporter operator who was in turn looking at the duffel bag he had left behind. He ran back and snatched, giving a hurried ‘Thanks’ as he went on his way.

It had taken longer than it should have but once Noah finally admitted his mistake and asked someone for directions he was back on track. The office of head of engineering was easy enough to find once you knew how and Noah took a moment to calm his nerves before knocking on the door and stepping in.

“Cadet Parata sir, reporting for duty.”

-Cadet Noah Parata

OOC: Welcome to the Challenger! Great first post, I see you’ve already started your other check ins and our great medical cadet has filled you in about Out of Character posting. I’m looking forward to roleplaying with you and getting to know you’re character some more! I’m the head of the Engineering department here, so let me know if there’s anything I can help you with

IC:
“Come in!”
As the doors swished open, a rather plain and mostly utilitarian room lay behind it. In front of a work desk in the back of the room sat two chairs, behind it another that Dael sat in. On the wall behind him a screen similar to the one in Main Engineering, an outline featuring the Challenger‘s profile, complete with an up-to-date status of the ship. On the nearby right wall a few toolkits were hung and a small project table underneath them, and on the left bulkhead hung a spare uniform and another engineering console taking up the remaining length of the room on that side. The space gave off a feel that it’s occupant wasn’t in it very often, almost like a supply closet with some extra bells and whistles so the user could know where he was most needed. The only item that seemed not bent to this task, looked to be a small orb on the desk. With a closer look, it’s form seemed to cave in on itself but also expand out depending on how you looked at it, inside a shifting of colors made abstract patterns.

Dael looked down into a mug with some green colored liquid inside, his brow furrowed and shock of brown hair moving with his head as it shook in thought. An open tricorder lay on the desk next to the hand not currently holding the mug, which swirled the steaming liquid as he focused on it. He glanced up at the movement, the dark irises of his species registering the entering cadet and breaking the furrowed brow with a warm smile.

“Ah, Cadet Parata, I was told to expect by Commander Holmman, I’m Lt. Dael Stadi, Chief Engineer here on the Challenger. Please, take a seat.” Dael gestured at one of the two seats in front of the desk, then furrowed his brow again as he focused on the hot green ichor inside his mug. He extended it out to Cadet Parata. “Quick question, does this look like Raktajino to you?”
