“Yes, Commander,” Stan said in response to the XO’s orders and rapidly headed over to a side of the ruins, almost jogging in his excitement to get started. He kneeled down on the jungle ground and set down the lab kit that had been slung over the shoulder.

He scanned the wall of the ruin carefully and spotted some locations where the traces of paint residue were most noticeable. Perfect spots for his first samples. Sample container already in one hand, he put the tricorder down and picked up a small laser pick from the lab kit and carefully cut off a small piece of the ruin to put in the sample container. He then repeated the process with additional containers.

Stan tapped his combadge. =^=Wisniewski to Lt. Barr. I have taken several samples from the ruins, if you want to beam some of them up the Lab. I will also analyze some of them with the equipment I brought with me. =^=

As Stan waited for a response from the Lieutenant, he shifted his attention from the paint flecks to the mysterious curved writing on the ruins. He picked his tricorder back up and started focusing his scans on the writing, wondering if any of the Federation linguistic or archeological databases would have anything helpful on it.

OOC: Lovely job cross-posting that comm message, Dan J.!

IC:

Emmy remained somewhat close to Holmman, not willing to entertain the notion that the oddities they had noticed already were making her uncomfortable with her decision to go on the away team. There was a reason why she had agreed to an Academy CO posting as opposed to a main fleet one and her distinct preference for the mundane and routine over the dangerous and unusual had been it. She winced slightly as her footing became unstable, the lack of balance flying through her body like a shock, but then steadied herself and continued to slowly look around.

  • Davis, CO

Eric caught Davis’s movement and quickly looked over. “Are you okay, Captain?” he asked, concern on his face.

M’rahja made steady progress around the ruins, taking care to watch her surroundings and keep an ear towards her tricorder for alerts. Her toes knocked against a loose stone and she kicked it away to clear the path and inadvertently revealed something interesting. =^=Ko to Captain Davis and Commander Holmman, I have found some kind of mechanism on the ground that looks like it could be pressed. Examining it in more detail now.=^= Her gut instinct was that this was some kind of trap, placed to snare unwary and unwanted visitors.

Cadet Ko

Eric frowned as he listened to Ko’s message. =^= Scan the mechanism and see if you can see what it is connected to. I’ll join you in a moment. =^=

(OOC: Geoff, how far apart is everyone? And does it make sense to split the thread are continue like this if we are still close by?)

-Cmdr. Eric Holmman, XO

OOC: You are probably 20-30 yards (Meters) apart.

IC: Scans of the device that Ko found were inconclusive. It was connected to something and had a cable that ran way from it deeper into the jungle and another one that ran into the building itself. No power, however, and very few moving parts to speak of.

GM Wombat

Emmy was still glued to the XO’s side and offered a small nod. “Let’s keep the team together,” she murmured to him.

  • Davis, CO

=^= Excellent Cadet Wisniewski. Send me the coordinates and I will beam them directly to the science lab for analysis. Is there anything in particular that you want me to concentrate on first? =^=

Lt Barr - CSO (Crosspost)

While the communications took place between Barr and her cadet on the surface, Eric focused on the rest of the team. “Understood, Captain,” he said, heading to Cadet Ko.

The Commander studied the device the cadet found, his science background coming into the forefront with the mystery it presented. “What do you make of this?” he asked. “I don’t want to activate anything while we have people in the ruins.”

He looked at Davis, who wanted to keep them together. That ruled out any treks into the jungle. “Should we see where this leads to in the ruins?”

-Cmdr. Eric Holmman, XO

Stan relayed the coordinates to Lieutenant Barr, then added, =^=I think that determining the age of the ruins would probably be the most helpful information right now. Also, I concentrated on getting samples that had traces of paint residue on them. Determining what the paint was made of and the age of the paint compared to the age of the ruins might be be interesting. =^=

Stan glanced over at the Captain and XO, wondering what the away team’s next move would be, as he waited for Lt. Barr to beam some of the samples up.
