It had been several days since Seb Petrov arrived on the USS Challenger, he had made short work of his onboarding itinerary yet one task remained; a check-in with the ship Counsellor. He had passed the office several times on his rounds, speeding up his walk in case he come face-to-face with the person whom he had been pushing back meetings. Despite Seb’s grades being on the lower end of a successful Star Fleet applicant, it was his original interview with an Academy psychologist that proved the most unpleasant part of his road to acceptance.

No wonder, when the greatest trauma of your life is documented in every detail by Star Fleet. Seb thought to himself as he approached the Counsellor’s office again. Even after seven years, speaking of his and Robert’s accident was still difficult, particularly with those keen on ascertaining the mental damage of such an event. Unable to put off the meeting any longer, he had booked in a session before a duty shift, to ensure an easy cut-off should the conversation go on too long; he only had to delay.

Thumbing the door bell, Seb stood before the door awaiting entry. Dressed in a well-ironed uniform, polished shoes and clean shaven, he looked every bit the model Cadet, barring the scar through his right eyebrow. As the doors slid open, he stepped forward without hesitation, standing at attention before the Counsellor.

“Cadet Seb Petrov, reporting for my evaluation.”

As the doors opened, a large L-shaped sectional sofa was revealed, upholstered in light blue and set against a dark blue wall. Hanging over the couch was a painting of a couple - a man in tuxedo and a woman barefoot in a red evening gown - dancing on a wet beach, while a butler and maid stood nearby holding aloft umbrellas. To one side a matching red vase sat on an end table, filled with white daisies.

Laying down on the sofa was a woman in a medical-blue shouldered Starfleet uniform, a PADD held in the air over her face. She looked over as Seb stepped into the room and saluted. She sat up quickly and stood, one hand checking the bun her raven hair was piled in atop her head. “Hello Seb!” she smiled brightly, crossing the room to shake his hand. “I’m Lieutenant Commander Lofton,” she continued, ushering him into the room. “But please call me Vanessa. Have a seat.” She gestured at the couch and then threw a thumb over her shoulder. “Would you like anything from the replicator?”

OOC: Hi! And welcome to the counselor thread, where we’ll delve into your character’s backstory, desires, and motivations. You’ve got a great bio set up, but hopefully we leave with a few things for you to add to it. Can’t wait to write with you and learn more about Seb!

Seb looked taken-aback for a brief moment at Vanessa’s approachable demeanour, lowering his salute tentatively to shake her hand. He found her smile infectious, immediately abandoning the ‘blank slate’ expression he was trying to affect when he entered the room. Feeling dryness in his throat, no doubt due to nerves, he cleared his throat before speaking.

“Thank you, Ma’am- Vanessa, sorry. Alpine sparkling water, please.” Seb took a seat on the sofa, perched near the edge and sat stiffly upright. Looking around the room, he took in Vanessa’s tasteful interior décor, tilting his head slightly as he inspected the painting on the wall. Perhaps I should look at some decoration for my own quarters.

OOC: Thanks! The character is still very much a WIP despite the current length of his bio. I’m looking forward to it!

She nodded and walked to the food slot beside her desk across the room, returning a moment later with his request, and a steaming mug of hot chocolate for herself. She sat after handing his over, and blew across the top of her drink.

“This is a very informal session,” she began, then sipped her chocolate. “It’s more for me to get to know you and how we can help you succeed during your time aboard the Challenger. I’ve read your file, but that’s mostly data points.” She waved her hand dismissively. “Let’s talk about Seb. What do you like to do for fun?”
