OOC: is the spore drive something only the Discovery has or do all of the Discovery class ships have one?

IC:
As Rodier removed what were now obviously headphones and had modulated his voice Shane was mortified at his assumption. As he sat down as requested he almost missed the Lieutenants question.

“I just got here sir” he said. “It feels great to be back in space, I’m excited to get to stay out here for awhile. Being on earth has been nice but I have missed being out here a lot.”

He looked a little nervous as he asked. “What kind of action can I expect to see while I am here, I would like to prepare as best I can.”

~Cadet Shane Flanaghan - Security

OOC: The USS Discovery is the only ship (aside from the Glenn, which was destroyed) to have a spore drive, as far we’re aware. And in the current time, very few to no Starfleet officers would know the Discovery wasn’t actually destroyed ~100 years ago. Glad to see a fellow Disco fan :)

This is also a great time to show you about snipping, which you’ve already kind of done. When a thread gets to be too long, you may want to snip some of the posts, and leave only the few most recent ones for context. To do this, cut down the posts you want to cut, then type “<snip>” at the top to show where you cut it. But always try to leave enough posts there so someone jumping in has context, usually three or so.

IC:
Rodier put a finger to the desk and began tapping a slow, thoughtful rhythm. “Honestly, and I’d love to give you a better answer than this, but it varies. I was recently stuck in a Holodeck with a bunch of Tribbles, then the week after that I had nothing but standard patrols.”

Picking up his PADD, the Lieutenant tapped at the machine a couple times, frowned, and tapped again, finally coming to Shane’s profile. “If you have any more questions, please ask them, I’m all ears. But for now I must ask, why’d you join Starfleet? Was it just a way to get back into space?”

~ Lt. Jr. Gr. Henry Rodier - Chief of Security

OOC: That is kind of what I thought but figured I would ask.

IC:
Flannaghan has many reason for wanting to join Starfleet, some of them boil down to him wanting to get back into space, he has always felt drawn to space.

“When my father’s ship was attacked during the war, we were rescued by the crew of the Raven, we had nothing at that point, my father probably woudldn’t have wanted me to join Starfleet, though it would have been mostly because he wanted me to take his place on his ship one day. I want to do what the crew of the Raven did for my mother, myself, and what remained of our crew. Be there to protect the people of the Federation when needed. I want to do what I can and I feel that Starfleet is the best place for me to do that.”

He wasn’t sure the answer he gave was what the Lt. wanted to hear but it was what he had right now. He waited with a determined look on his face for his new CO’s response.

Henry smiled, thinking back to his response to the same question in his first check-in. “Well, that’s a good reason if I’ve ever heard one. Is there any particular reason you chose the Security department? I know for some it can be a difficult decision, what fihe deld to devote yourself to.”

IC:

“The first year we were on earth I was 14. I guess I was a bit of a late bloomer. Between all the normal changes at that time adding to that that I was working much harder and eating much better then we ever did on the ship I was becoming large quickly, and very clumsy. My school suggested I take martial art to help. I enjoyed it immensely and I wanted to choose a profession where it may come in handy. While aikido may benefit in any profession I thought it may be particularly useful in security”

OOC:

Flannaghan leans more towards the tactical and intel side of security then he does being a body guard on away missions.

“Ah, so it was a matter of where to best use your skills. It was similar for me.” The Chief made a note on his PADD, then returned to Shane’s profile. “I see you seemed to have an affinity for the ship-based side of the security department in the Academy, is that right?”

~ Lt. Jr. Gr. Henry Rodier - Chief of Security

OCC: Sorry for the delay in responding, had a couple of late nights and was exhausted by the time work was over.

IC:

“Yes Sir, I know it’s the popular thing for cadets to be hotshot pilots, and I am no slouch if I say so myself, I found I was more interested in the weapons systems at the Academy.” He thought to himself that he was far better with targeting systems then he was with atmospheric flight to. “When I found I was going to be reporting to the challenger I immediately began to read up on the weapons systems of the ship.”

“I should also say that I achieved higher marks in Intelligence Analysis.” Reading some reports can be boring he had to admit to himself though that he did like having as much information as he could have.

OOC: Is there someplace that I can read up on the specs of the Challenger

~Cadet Shane Flannaghan - Security

OOC: No worries! We have a relaxed posting speed here. I believe I saw your question answered via Discord, but if not, yes, you can see it on the main ship page as one of the links.

Also, you’re more than welcome to start your boarding Medical eval and Counselor check-in whenever you feel comfortable/ready. You can RP them as having taken place right after this check-in.

IC:
“A man of many talents, then. Tactical is far from my forte, but I respect anyone who goes that route. While the Challenger may not exactly be a warship, it can handle itself.” Henry put down his PADD, looking Shane in the eyes. “So, intelligence and weapons systems. Tell me, then. In five years, where do you want to be? What’s your ideal?”
