Issac laughed, taking a deep sip of his tea. ” Our family motto is : ‘For the betterment of all.’ My ancestors were all dedicated to military matters, as my grand-father would say,’ An unbroken chain of service that stretches back centuries, and continues with you, my boy.’ They were among the first to sign up with Starfleet, and just about every member of the family that can serve has. You ever hear the old song, and I mean ollld song ‘Sam Jones?’ Well just like the song says, ‘I’m a spacer born and bred.’” he takes another deep sip of the tea, and smiles wryly. ” I was raised on battle stories and tales of heroics, annnd I went into medicine. That provoked a reaction from the family. Heh, I’m only not the black sheep of the fam because I’m still going into the Fleet.”

Vanessa shook her head. “You would think a family full of career military members would appreciate a good sawbones,” she said with a laugh. “But even still, that kind of shadow over you can be tough.” She shifted, throwing her arm over the back of the couch. “Do you think that legacy helped or hindered you at the Academy?

Issac brushed a strand of raven black hair out of his face, and spoke with an easy smile. ” Bit of both, actually. I had to work myself half to death to prove to the instructors I wasn’t just coasting on the family name. But… that extra work paid off, and soon I was helping out my fellow students as a peer tutor. So six of one, half a dozen of the other, I guess.” He adjusted that darn strand of hair one more time, smile still playing around his lips. “The only good thing about that Nausicaan attack was it put any doubts of my ‘Conroy steel’ to rest.”

Vanessa nodded. “I’ve read the account of the Nausicaan attack,” she said. “Making it through that is definitely a tribute to you.” She rolled the mug between her hands for a moment. “The Nausicaan attack is a little heavier than I usually get in these first meetings. Do you want to talk about it?”

Lt. Cmdr. Lofton - CNS

” I’d prefer to talk about it later, in that case. I can instead talk about why I chose medicine, if you’d prefer?” save the Nausicaan material for if the nightmares come back, or if I have any reocurring issues from that, He thought to himself. The medicine story is more nuanced than the simplicity of the attack, anyway.
