The XO’s voice came over the comms.

=^= Holmann to Lt. Barr. We found some ruins but we don’t know the origins. Can you see what you can make of it with Challenger’s library? It would be helpful to see what species was here and where they came from. I’m uploading my tricorder scans now. =^=

-Cmdr. Eric Holmman, XO (cross-post)

Pushing herself back from the console, Alison rolled the chair she was sitting on over to a nearby comm panel.

=^= Sure thing Commander. Give us a few minutes to take a look through our database. =^=

As she waited for the scans to be uploaded to the Challenger, she pulled herself down the line of consoles and by the time she got to the next one, she was able to pull up the data and not have to back out of the analysis she had already started.

With the data on the screen, Alison started breaking down the main features of the ruins so they could run an analysis.

“Has anyone seen Cadet Marsh?”

Lt Barr - CSO

“No ma’am,” one of the other cadets called out from where he was working.

Alison mumbled under her breath. They were going to have a talk about being on time.

Several minutes after the XO’s call over the comms, Cadet Wisniewski’s voice came through.

=^=Wisniewski to Lt. Barr. I have taken several samples from the ruins, if you want to beam some of them up the Lab. I will also analyze some of them with the equipment I brought with me. =^=

Cadet Wisniewski, Scientist (cross-post)

=^= Excellent Cadet Wisniewski. Send me the coordinates and I will beam them directly to the science lab for analysis. Is there anything in particular that you want me to concentrate on first? =^=

Pulling herself down the row of consoles again, she brought up the transporter controls. Hopefully they would have some answers soon, because they had a lot of questions.

Lt Barr - CSO

Stan relayed the coordinates over the comm, then added: =^=I think that determining the age of the ruins would probably be the most helpful information right now. Also, I concentrated on getting samples that had traces of paint residue on them. Determining what the paint was made of and the age of the paint compared to the age of the ruins might be be interesting. =^=

Cadet Wisniewski, Scientist

=^=Understood,=^= Alison said as she fed the transporter coordinates into the computer and initiated the transport. =^=Give me a few minutes to have the computer analyze the samples, and I’ll get back to you. And Cadet, good work.=^=

Leaning back in the chair Alison smiled as she waited for the samples to materialize, Cadet Wisniewski was doing a great job, and would do well after graduation.

Lt Barr - CSO

The big computer on the Challenger confirmed what the test box had already indicated, that the ruins, both sets, wouldn’t have fit the window that was of most concern. In fact there was nothing to tie the technology or the original ruins to either the Valakians or the Menk.

GM Wombat

Interesting, Alison thought. That could definitely change how the ruins were perceived by both sides.

=^= Wisniewski, Barr here. Got the scan data back, the items you sent are not showing any relation to either the Valakians, or the Menk. And dating on them is not fitting into the timeframe we have been looking at. I think we are looking at a completely different civilization here. Let me know if you want me to run any other tests here on the Challenger. =^=

With the scans finished, she pulled herself back down the bank of consoles to continue monitoring the astrometric data coming in.

Lt Barr - CSO

Stan’s voice came through the speaker: =^=Yes, Lieutenant, that goes along with the analysis from the equipment I’ve brought with me. The ruins and the technology that we’ve found down appear to be separated by centuries…and both from different timeframes than what we would be expecting for the Valakians or the Menk. Definitely a bit of a mystery! I’ve been scanning some writing on the ruins with my tricorder, I can transmit that to the Challenger to see if the ship’s computer has any luck translating it. =^=
