Dael put the finishing touches on the plasma injector re-calibration. Just one more little.... there He rolled out from underneath the injector by the core’s plasma coils and sat himself up. “Hopefully that’ll keep the flow going at a better rate, I hate seeing it fluctuate like it’s been doing.” he said to the Engineering cadet that had been watching him. He hoped the cadet had been taking good notes, next time this thing needed calibration Dael intended for the cadet to be the one crawled up underneath it. For training purposes of course, not because his lower back was aching. He playfully flipped the hyperspanner in his hand before putting it back in his toolkit. He stood up with a little bit of a bounce, having something to focus on and get running had put him in a good mood. Another problem solved, another good day toda....

“=^= Rodier to Engineering, we have a bit of a situation here. Tribbles on Deck 5, Holodeck 1 not working, transporters semi-functional but we could use some assistance getting out of here. =^=”

A long sigh came from the Chief Engineer. He rubbed the bridge of his nose as he shut his eyes. Did… did he just say tribbles. How in the moons of Betazed had they gotten onboard? And the transporters.... Dael walked over to the center of the Engineering deck to a status board, going through all the systems on Deck 5 that having a tribble in would be a bad day. Main Engineering.... Holodecks....Power distribution… Perfect places for the little fuzzballs.

=^= Holodeck 1, this is Engineering. I’m sending someone your way and will be seeing to the transporters. Can you confirm if the tribbles are isolated to your location or have they migrated?=^=

As he asked he readied a hand over his console to make the scan himself just in case, he noticed two of his other cadets coming back from another calibration job he had trusted them with. Cadet Las was down on the moon’s surface so he had made sure his other new bright members of his team had been getting plenty of experience. He signalled to them with his other hand as he awaited the response from the Holodeck.

“Cadet Whitfield, Cadet Parata seems we have a situation on Holodeck 1. Whitfield, I want you down there putting eyes on the problem and seeing what you can do. Parata, on top of the Holodeck issues, the transporters are apparently not working up to specs. Run a diagnostic and see if it’s isolated to the Holodeck or the whole ship. After that see what you can do. I’ve got people on the moon’s surface and don’t want to have to send a shuttle for them in an emergency. And I don’t need our security team holed up in a Holodeck for the same reason. Apparently we also have a possible tribble infestation…” When it rains it pours, as the humans say “… I’ll be here helping coordinate your efforts, if you need anything, comm me.”

With that he dismissed them to their tasks with a nod and waited for his answer from Rodier, prepping the scan as his good mood had been replaced with the focus these problems required. And the headache that tribbles could be.

”=^= Rodier to Engineering, scans show five Tribbles in Holodeck 1, with an additional four unaccounted for. I think I saw one on Lieutenant Anders’ head when he beamed out, but the statuses of the other three are wholly unknown. =^=”

Fantastic Dael thought as his fingers moved on the console and began the internal scan he had prepped. Every engineer’s nightmare, unaccounted tribbles. If I figure out who got them on board

He looked up from his scans and noticed that the cadets he had assigned to helping out where in fact, two different engineers. Normally he didn’t get flustered like, especially since his telepathy pinged him pretty good for who was who. He’d chock it up to the stress those tiny balls of fuzz were putting on him at the moment. He turned to his crew again. “Apologies NE Doohan and NE Trineer, my day went from easy repairs to stressful very quickly. Thought you were someone else, won’t happen again. So NE Trineer I want you heading down to the holodecks to see what you can do to get our people out of there. NE Doohan, you’re here with me, monitor this scan for the other tribbles while I run a diagnostic on transporters. I don’t want our Captain and XO having to call a shuttle if they want to come back home.”

With a quick ‘aye sir’ from both, the engineering crew split up and began heading to it’s separate duties, NE Doohan checking the status of the internal scan as the other went for the turbolift. Dael ran a quick diagnostic program from another status board on the Engineering deck to see what was going on with the transporter systems.
