(OOC: thank you! Sorry for the delay replying - it’s been a hectic couple of weeks and time drifted by before I realised I’d gone AWOL. Apologies!)
“Really? I can take the exam already?” Miya was delighted; even though she’d known she was nearing that stage, having it confirmed by Vanessa made it seem more real. Another step on her long road to achieving her ambition and fulfilling the Prophets’ wishes! Her parents would be so happy when they found out! “Thanks for saying I can shadow you. I really appreciate that and I will take you up on the offer, as soon as I’ve adjusted to life aboard the Challenger. I owe it to Lieutenant T’Saie to get settled into working in sickbay before I try to change specialisms.”
Vanessa’s enthusiasm was infectious; Miya’s grin matched the counsellor’s as she shrugged her shoulders, trying to think of something else to ask. “I honestly don’t know what other questions I have - you’ve just answered my biggest ones, to be honest, I can’t think of anything else ..... oh, wait!” A mischievous look passed across her face. “When I was looking at Challenger’s specs - just to help me find my way around, you know - I spotted a room where the Executive Officer apparently has a hot tub. Lieutenant T’Saie said she hasn’t seen it. Is there really a hot tub on board or is it just a joke to tease nosy Cadets?”

Vanessa chuckled. “Yes, there is actually a hot tub on board - I’ve never been, so I don’t know if it’s open to the public or if it’s exclusive for the executive officer’s use.” She shrugged. “You could always ask,” she grinned.
She stood then and extended her hand. “It has been wonderful to meet you. Please if you need anything don’t hesitate, and I’ll make sure to schedule you to shadow me a few sessions.”
OOC: It’s been so much fun writing with you Claire. I can’t wait to see how you do in the fleet!

“I might just ask - once I’ve met the XO and I’m confident he wouldn’t be annoyed at the question!” Miya matched Vanessa’s grin. “I honestly don’t know why this hot tub has become a thing with me. I just didn’t expect to see something like that on the Challenger’s specs!” She drained her glass of water - she’d been doing a lot of talking - just in time, as the counsellor indicated their session was at an end.
She took Vanessa’s outstretched hand in a firm grip. “Thank you so much, Vanessa. I’ve really enjoyed meeting you, too, and I’ll look forward to shadowing you at some stage in the future. I really appreciate your help and support,” she added, her sincerity evident. Becoming a counsellor had been her aim since leaving Bajor. Now, finally, it was coming within reach!
When the handshake ended, she bent to retrieve her bag and swung it over her shoulder. Time to find her quarters - she had the details on her PADD, thanks to Lieutenant T’Saie - and start the process of settling in to life on the Challenger. Thanks be to the Prophets, this was going to be an amazing experience!
