The turbolift doors opened onto a steady stream of Starfleet personnel heading away from Cargo Bay One. Miya waited till the crowd started to thin, then stepped out of the turbolift to look for the highest-ranking officer so she could report Sickbay’s arrival. Under different circumstances, she’d have been rather happy to see Lieutenant Rodier - her memories of his appearance at that hot tub graduation ceremony were still vivid - but with the present emergency under way, she was focused on the moment.

Aaron was following Miya. As they both stepped out of the turbolift, he looked around the cargo bay. People were heading out of the cargo bay. Most of them were ensign or cadet, just like him, and for some of them, he could feel the same anxiety he has.
“Lieutenant Rodier? Sickbay reporting in - Lieutenant O’Connell is on her way too; she’s going to meet us here. Is there anything you want us to do for now?”

[Cadet Ven Miya, doctor]
Henry glanced at Miya, then quickly returned his gaze to the Cargo Bay. “Nothing as of yet, Cadet. We’re just making sure the room’s clear.”

Putting one of his medkits on a near crate, Aaron was half-listening to Miya’s and Lieutenant Rodier’s conversation, while trying to remember all medical protocols he learns.

Dael and his crew made their way to the Cargo Bay where they had been making preparations these past few days. Going through his internal catalogue of the progress and the recent reports from the Bridge, he realized they probably had over-prepared. Only fifty colonists left… he thought but shook the thought away. He had a job to do. He’d rather be working on the transporter issue, but the Captain had sent him down to help with the Cargo Bay securing. Logistics weren’t his favorite thing to work on, but they had force fields put in place and the temporary shelters needed to make sure they were set up right. That was a job he could focus on. The buzz around him was already high, he was filtering out so many surface emotions in his mind, he looked forward to having a job to focus on once the refugees were on board. He could only imagine the spike in mental traffic then.

He noticed all the crews leaving the area and assumed Security was filtering the deck out. He saw the Chief of Security and a few medical cadets outside the door to the Cargo Bay. “Lt. Rodier, I see you’re getting the deck secure. I’ve got my team here to help me make sure our temporary structures and forcefields stay in place. And anything else that might come up in transport. I’ll take my cue from your team when we’re good to start up, I don’t want to get in your way of locking this Bay down.”

-Lt jg Dael Stadi, CE
“Sounds like a plan, Lieutenant,” said Henry, as the last of the personnel streamed through the doorway. He then stepped back, letting the forcefields initiate.

=/\= Bridge to All Hands. The transport is now initiating. Man your stations and do not enter the Cargo Bay until you receive clearance. =/\=

Miya took a deep breath, tightened her grip on the medical tricorder she’d retrieved from her medkit and glanced at Aaron. “Here we go!” she murmured, trying to project confidence but in reality she was hoping that Lieutenant O’Connell would be with them soon.

The Bajoran breathed a near-silent prayer: Prophets, please don’t let me mess up!

Dael’s stomach tightened at the communication from the Captain. Not so much worried as to what was going to be incoming from the transport, the situation would unfold as it would. Rather, the fact that he was here instead of manning the transport itself made him anxious. The Captain had wanted him here, helping with the refugees settle in to the structures they made and support security getting the forcefields working properly. He was glad he had a job to do, something to focus on, but something as tricky as this large transport was more in his wheelhouse than the waiting. He pointed to his NEs he had brought with him. “Alright people, once the tranport’s complete take security’s lead while we ensure the temporary structures are in place and our forcefields are holding. The important thing is to not get into anyone’s way once the refugees start rolling in.”
He turned back and gave a nod to Rodier as he waited for the tell-tale signs of the transport energizing in the Bay ahead of them.

-Lt. Dael Stadi, CE

Ari arrived just before the transport initiated, medical kit and some other equipment in tow. She spotted both Miss and Williams and made a beeline towards them, handing over a medical kit supplementary box with some more meds and field surgical tools. “Ready?” She asked both.

Lt O’Connell
CMO

Miya laid down her medical tricorder, stacking the extra kit carefully so it was easily accessible. “Ready, sir,” she said with determination, retrieving the tricorder and giving Aaron a quick smile.

=/\=Transport initiated.=/\= One of the cadets from the transporter room notified over the comms.

There was the familiar hum of materializing people inside of the bay which was promptly followed by screaming. There was a cluster of people, a little over forty, looking aghast as some creatures were dragging some of their number away from the group and visiting violence upon them. Three colonists were heavily injured and likely dead because of the quickly widening pools of blood and grotesque injuries. Another two were feebly protecting their vital areas but were still alive for the moment. A last was thrashing and kicking quite spiritedly against one of the creatures that was dragging her away from the large group.

GM Madness

Miya had been watching the transport, of course, but she was not expecting what came next - the screams and the gore and the creatures attacking the colonists … and their injuries, the blood, so much blood! She wasn’t sure if she could smell it through the forcefield but the sight was bad enough. Miya swallowed convulsively, forcing bile back into her stomach, determined not to throw up - not now, not here. She’d dealt with medical emergencies before. She’d helped people traumatised by loss, both on Bajor and during her medical training. She could do this.

But she still wanted to throw up.

OOC: I’ve been away/busy the past couple of weeks, so I do apologize for that. I took the liberty of inserting a couple of replies, and should be more active with the excitement starting.

Also, to the GM: per Red Alert procedure, I assume it’s okay to say that at least 2-4 security officers are on standby. If I’m mistaken, please correct me.

IC:
Henry stood at the door, his eyes widening in shock. Thankfully, the Academy didn’t graduate personnel who couldn’t handle unique situations. He snapped into action, grabbing his personal phaser with one hand and touching his commbadge with the other. =^= Rodier to all Security personnel, enact Procedure E-3, Cargo Bay 1. Rodier to Bridge, colonists under attack by unknown creatures. Engaging with your permission. =^= There was a clear tension in Henry’s voice, indicating haste.

He gestured to the two NCs and one NE behind him, who all took up an assault formation at the door, phasers already out and set to heavy stun. He could only hope the standby security officers headed to his location via Procedure E-3 would be as prepared as these three were.

Miya tightened her sweat-slicked grasp on her tricorder, wishing it was a phaser, and dragged her gaze away from the scene in the cargo bay to focus on Lieutenant O’Connell. “O-once we’re cleared to go in … who should we tend to first, sir?” She kept her voice as steady as possible, but her rapid breathing and pallor indicated the tension she was experiencing. Silently, she started to pray to the Prophets; they may be light years away in the Celestial Temple, but she believed in the power of their influence.
