“One hot chocolate,” Vanessa requested, then returned to the sofa, sitting on the opposite ‘leg’ from Zachary. “Let me know if you change your mind,” she smiled. She sipped the drink and closed her eyes, sighing, then cradled the drink in her palms, enjoying the heat suffusing them.

“This is a very informal session,” she began, “mostly for me to get to know you. This isn’t a test of any kind - you wouldn’t be here if Starfleet didn’t think you were ready. Of course, I’ve read your file, I’m familiar with your distinctions and Academy record, but I’m more interested in the you that’s not in there.” She leaned back against the sofa. “So, tell me a little about yourself. What do you like to do off duty?”

OOC: Apologies again for the delay on this. My recent post on my return from LOA explains.

Zachary felt a little sheepish that it took him more than a few moments to recollect what his hobbies were when directly asked about it; he supposed that was the effect pressure could have on a person, but it still made him a little flustered knowing he likely turned red under his freckles. He took a minute to breath in and re-center himself around the question before answering.

“Glad to know I’m not in danger of failing for being too dull then I s’pose.” His fingers threaded together unbidden where they sat across his knees as he formulated the rest of his words. “Played a bit of football as a kid - the footed kind and not the tacklin’ kind - and a little bit as well with friends in the Academy. I play a bit of guitar, but didn’t bring one with me onboard. I’m a decent hand at Spades if cards counts as a hobby. Otherwise I haven’t had much time for outside activities as of late - the Academy is a demandin’ place near the end of it.”

He tilted his head a little and relaxes enough to scoot a little further back on the couch. It’s hard to think on the spot but he hopes he’s at least being coherent.

“That it can be,” she agreed with a laugh. “And we have a right few musicians in the current crop of cadets,” she continued. “We may need to get you all to perform for us.”

She took a sip of her cocoa and shifted, tucking her legs beneath her. “When you’ve done team or group work - say, football or a group assignment at the Academy - is there a particular role you find yourself taking or gravitating towards?”
