Emmy scrolled through the communication from Starfleet Command, allowing a small sigh to escape her lips. She had been fortunate to have Commander Holmman on board as long as she had, but it looked like he was needed elsewhere and so she was going to have to become accustomed to a new XO. Thankfully, it appeared that Starfleet Command and Starfleet Academy had the right idea and recommended someone from within the ship. While she hadn’t had much opportunity to get to know the ship’s counselor, her overall assessment of the woman as an officer and instructor for the cadets was positive.

Done with her sessions for the day, Vanessa was leaned back on the sofa in her office, legs crossed, a PADD with assessments on her knee and a glass of synthehol merlot in her hand when the comm chime rang, followed by Davis’s summons. That is… unusual, she thought, tossing the PADD aside. She took another sip of the wine and set it on the end table before leaving.

She walked across the bridge, greeting the officers there with a smile; she’d only been on the bridge a couple of times. She mentally shrugged and straightened her shoulders before hitting the ready room door chime, then assumed a parade rest, hands clasped behind her back. Davis liked organization, formality, so Vanessa would give her that.

Lt. Cmdr Lofton - CNS

As the chime sounded to inform her of someone’s presence outside her ready room, Emmy’s eyes involuntarily flicked at the chronometer displayed on her desk, noting that the Counselor had responded in a not overly expedient, but appropriate amount of time. “Enter!” she called, crisply, her eyes moving to focus on the door that was sliding open before her eyes. As it revealed Lofton, she noted the formal pose with a small sense of satisfaction, but also hoped that they could quickly get this exchange over with. She was suddenly realizing how unpleasant having a counselor as her second in command could be… hopefully it would not be all about emotions and feelings from then on and they could remain the efficient ship that they were accustomed to being.

Before Lofton could launch into any official greeting, Emmy waved a hand toward one of the chairs in front of her desk. “Please take a seat, Commander.” She looked as though she was about to begin why she had asked the woman to her ready room and then clearly she thought better of it. “Would you like a beverage?” she enquired instead, somewhat perfunctorily.
