“Cadet, I have been notified by Starfleet Academy and Starfleet Command that you are hereby graduated from Starfleet Academy. Due to your exemplary performance, you are hereby promoted to the acting rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade and you have been appointed as Chief Medical Officer of the USS Challenger. Congratulations!”

She extended her hand to the newly promoted officer. The small velvet box inside of it was opened to show the gleaming new pips.

..... Wait, what?! Miya’s jaw dropped as she took in the captain’s words. Graduation, acting lieutenant rank and becoming CMO on the Challenger? For a second, despite all her training, she didn’t know how to react; it was almost overwhelming. Then, as she heard the sound of clapping spreading around the room, she stretched out her hand to take the box containing these tiny pips which symbolised so much.

“Th-thank you, sir. I’ll be honoured to be Chief Medical Officer here.” The little box felt fuzzy in her hand. Miya broke into a brilliant smile as she saluted the Captain, pivoted and then blushed as she realised that the clapping was for her.

“Congratulations Lieutenant!” Dael clapped after setting down his drink. The time cadets spent onboard always felt too short for him, right as he got a team of engineers working the way he liked they got shipped to the fleet. But this, this was one of the definite perks of being among the senior staff on an Academy ship. Despite his usual nature of staying away from gatherings in favor of some repairs, he did hate seeing them go and not just because he had to train a new round of cadets after. Watching the cadets flourish and go off to succeed in the fleet was a definite plus. Not to mention seeing them excel to become senior staff on the Challenger themselves. They had all earned their pips and he had to admit he was happy to be there to see it.

Still beaming, Miya dipped her head to acknowledge the Lieutenant’s words as she made her way back - not to the bar, but to Aaron’s side. They had arrived on the Challenger at almost the same time; she wanted to share in his graduation as he had shared hers - assuming he was graduating today, of course, but she’d be shocked if he wasn’t!

“Congrats, Miya! You deserve it!”, said Aaron, clapping in his hand. Looking at the pips given by the Captain, Aaron felt quite impressed about it. Directly promoted to Lieutenant Junior, he thought. And at the head of the CMO !

“Thank you, Aaron!” Miya touched the pips with the tip of her finger, not wanting to take them out of the box in case she dropped one. “I can’t believe this. I honestly can’t!”

The young doctor looked around the ship, thinking of the time he spends aboard the ship. It was quite a pleasant experience. I hope I could get back here after graduation. He could remember his arrival aboard the Challenger, the Tribble incident, the hot tubes graduation…

But it doesn’t end here, he thought with a smile, looking at the crew present in the Lounge.

Cadet Aaron Williams

Having allowed sufficient time for the graduating cadet to receive her congratulations from her peers, Emmy moved to the next cadet on the list.

“Cadet Aaron Williams, please come forward,” she instructed.

  • Davis, CO

Hearing his name, Aaron took a better countenance, trying to keep his cool. He then came in front of his Captain, feeling a mix of emotion, between happiness, excitement, proudness, and a bit of anxiety. Guess I’ve made it., he thought with a bit of nostalgia. I’ll miss the ship.

“Cadet Aaron Williams reporting, ma’am !”

Cadet Aaron Williams

Another small velvet box seemed to magically appear in the commanding officer’s hand and she extended it out to Williams. “Starfleet Academy and Starfleet Command have notified me that you have fulfilled all requirements for graduation from Starfleet Academy and that you have been given a temporary promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade and assignment as the Chief Science Officer of the USS Challenger. Congratulations, Lieutenant.”

  • Davis, CO

Miya gasped, unable to suppress her joy at having her friend staying on the Challenger in a similar role to hers. “Congratulations, Lieutenant!” she called, clapping her hands in the Bajoran style, back to palm; at least that cultural difference meant she could clap and still keep hold of her precious velvet box. Miya blinked hastily, seeking to chase away the treacherous tears which were lurking in the corners of her eyes. Wait until ma and da hear this news! Prophets, they’ll be so proud!

(OOC: thank you so much for this! I was honestly shocked to find out … thanks for giving me this opportunity to contribute to the ship!)
