“If we are interesting in finding out what caused the mutations, it would greatly speed up the investigation. We’d have access to the colony computer banks to see if they were able to do any research before whatever happened down there, plus study the local environment to see if that played into it.”

After a second pause, Alison shrugged, “But with enough time we can probably work out a decent hypothesis from examining the beings. Provided that security doesn’t vaporize them.”

It would be some work, but a task her cadets could surely take on.

Emmy listened attentively to Barr’s thoughts and considered the situation at hand. “What is the risk to the ship if we remain here to investigate further?” she queried the general Bridge crew, her hands resting lightly on her hips as she turned to survey the officers and cadets at the various stations. “Would we need to access the colony computer banks directly?”

  • Davis, CO

“We should be able to establish a remote connection. I can have Cadet Little report to the bridge and start going through the logs here, while I head down to science lab to monitor the concentration of tetryon particles in the area.”

Lt Barr - CSO

Emmy pivoted slightly to stare at the view screen in front of her for several seconds as her brain raced down the various paths and trajectories that were open to them. Getting a clearer picture of what had happened would make sense, but the Challenger was not a well-outfitted battleship and it would not handle any kind of confrontation or other incident particularly well. Finally, she returned her attention back to Barr.

“You have one hour, Lieutenant, and then we will be underway to the space station,” she said firmly.

  • Davis, CO

“We could leave a probe if we need further information,” Vanessa finally spoke up from her seat. She was still finding her footing on the bridge and learning when to give advice, or not give advice as the case may be.
