Emmy let out a small breath that could almost be termed a sigh of relief that she would not have to jump through the social niceties of beverage procurement. Now that she had checked off that box by offering, she folded her hands in her lap and straightened her already straight posture.
“Commander Holmman has been transferred to another posting,” she began. “Starfleet Command and Starfleet Academy have notified me that you have completed Command training and thus are eligible to fill the vacancy.” While she hadn’t asked a question, her voice trailed off quickly and she remained quiet as if she was expecting some sort of reaction or acknowledgement to her statement.

This… was certainly not what she expected when she arrived. “Commander Holmman will be missed,” she responded, buying time as her mind worked over the captain’s words. “He was excellent with the cadets; I’m sure he will do just as well wherever the Fleet has assigned him.”
She paused only momentarily. “And yes, I have completed Command training.” She wrapped her hands around her knee. “Shortly before my assignment here. I would be…” ‘Honored’ is too emotional. “… glad to fill the position if you would have me.”

“Excellent,” Emmy replied, simply, unaware of the mental gymnastics that Lofton was going through to select the correct terminology. “If you do not have any questions about your new position, you are dismissed. Your first Bridge shift as XO will be tomorrow at 0800.”

“I will be there with bells on,” she grinned, standing. “And… thank you for this opportunity, Captain” she added, before she turned and exited the room.
She paused on the bridge, eyes sweeping the room, settling on the XO’s chair. The corners of her mouth twitched as she continued to the turbolift. I need to put together assessments of the cadets and crew for whomever the new counselor will be, she thought. And I need to get a new uniform top.
Alone in the turbolift, this time she did smile.
