Emmy offered a small nod to the XO to confirm that she had heard her suggestion, but she didn’t say anything further for several minutes as she considered the options here. “Let’s see what Lieutenant Barr can find in an hour and then we will drop the probe for further information,” she stated firmly. She took her seat again and returned her attention to the view screen to see how things had developed in the Cargo Bay while she had been focused on the decisions being made on the Bridge.

  • Davis, CO

As the commotion on the view screen started to calm, Emmy slammed her hand against the comm badge on her chest, perhaps slightly more forcefully than she intended:

=/\= Lieutenants Rodier and O’Connell, report. =/\=

  • Davis, CO

=^= Rodier to Davis, cargo bay secured. One officer lost. Maintaining a small security presence. =^=

~ Lt. jr. gr. Rodier - COS (crosspost)

=/\= Acknowledged, Lieutenant. =/\=

Emmy’s voice remained neutral as she responded to the crushing report. This was the first time she had lost an officer while in command, but it wasn’t the time to allow that to distract her from the task at hand. She refocused on the CSO.

“Any update, Lieutenant? We did leave probes, so the scans can be completed while we depart.”

  • Davis, CO

“Um Captain,” the cadet at the science station said looking nervously over at the CO. He really hoped he wouldn’t get in trouble for contradicting the Captain, “Lt Barr went down to the science lab to keep monitoring the sensors.”

Emmy seemed momentarily ruffled but got a handle on her emotions quickly enough to offer a curt nod to the cadet.

Lofton cringed inwardly at the report. She would get the officer’s name - was it worse to hope it was an officer and not a young cadet? - and contact their family once the Challenger was away. She watched Davis’s face, searching for traces of the load she knew most would feel; Davis was a different beast from most though, which Vanessa knew.

She steeled herself, talking a calming breath and refocused on the screen.

XO Lofton

After the turbo door opened, Tom walked seamlessly to his post. He showed no emotions as he’s seen this thing enough at his time as a contractor. =^=…This is Cadet Little to Lieutenant Barr. I’m on the bridge’s science station, commencing logs reading…=^=

Fortunately, it wasn’t so different from the simulation he had before. He arms stretched and thought now, show me what you’ve got LCARS 3.1.

The colony’s main computer was heavily damaged and only a handful of logs were retrievable, and that was only under the premise that a power source was hooked up to it, so it’s current state was unusable. The communication satellite in orbit was another matter however. There were hundreds of messages in it’s buffer but none of them had been sent. It was unknown if it was a malfunction, sabotage, or some sort of anomaly which blocked transmissions.

GM Madness

=^= Acknowledged Cadet. Keep the Captain and myself apprised of what you find. Barr out. =^=

Lt Barr - outgoing CSO

In that case… “Captain,” Tom turned left, “may I request an energy beam to the computer banks? I couldn’t activate them, so I’m assuming there’s no power down there.” He was planning to at least activate the safe mode due to the possible critical damages to the hardware. “Then I may be able to download the files. Of course, if it doesn’t violate privacy.” As those may be damaged as well, there’s no guarantee that he could read them all while keeping the machines alive.

Cadet Little

“Do it,” Emmy responded. “You have 30 minutes,” she added, not needing to glance at anything to know where the running timer was in her head. More and more, she just wanted this mission over with and the Challenger and its crew out of any more danger.

  • Davis, CO

“Aye, Captain.” Tom turned to the console. 10 phasers total of 5.0 MW…0.5 MW per array, approximately 22.5 KW to this place…4.5% maximum. He then turned to the tactical station. “Security, I need an energy beam down there. Adjust the phaser to power transfer, 2.0% output. I’m transferring the coordinates to your console. On my mark.” He beeped for seconds. “…Fire.”
