Miya gave a rueful grin as the new counsellor introduced himself. “I’m beginning to settle in - I think - but there’s a lot to learn. Going from cadet to CMO is a huge jump,” she glanced quickly around the sickbay, checking that nothing was looking terribly out of place, “but I’ve had the best of training from Lieutenant T’Saie and Lieutenant O’Connell. I hope I can live up to their expectations, sir.”

Asher’s offer to use his first name was, at first, a little disconcerting - which was strange. Vanessa, also a Lieutenant Commander, had used first names during counselling sessions but this was in the middle of sickbay! She tried to take it in her stride. They were, after all, colleagues, as he’d said. Prophets, help me stay calm! I can do this - I know I can - but I don’t quite feel like it right now.

Taking a deep breath, she walked to a nearby biobed. “Please take a seat, si - Asher, and lie back. This won’t take long. Unless,” she glanced at him over her PADD with a quick smile, “you’ve got any major illnesses or injuries that have developed since your last check-up, of course.” She tapped on the PADD’s screen, inputting Asher’s name so the biobed could compare his current physical status to the results of his last examination.

[Lt JG Ven Miya, incoming CMO]

There wouldn’t be much to look at in the report, a few sporting injuries including a couple of twisted ankles and bruised egos but he mostly had a clean bill of health. His immunisation jabs needed a booster and his BMI was also out of date. “Well if im missing any limbs please let me know” He chuckled waiting patiently as he did as she asked and laid back on the bio bed. It was clear Asher was the kind of person who was always down to Earth and easy to talk to, his manner and posture invited conversation which was only emphasised by his constant chipper mood.

She grinned at his good humour though, of course, the ability to make people feel at ease was a hallmark of an effective counsellor. Maybe one day she’d attain that status too - but for now, she had her own role to worry about.

“Well, I’m sure you’ll be pleased to know that you have the correct number of limbs,” she replied with a smile, “but maybe less pleased to know that you’re due for a booster shot! Lie still and I’ll organise that for you.” As she walked to the counter to charge a hypospray with the appropriate drugs, she glanced across at Asher. “So how did you injure your ankles? The report said sporting injuries, but not which sport.” The report had also indicated his BMI needed updating, but she could do that with a few deft taps of her fingers.

(OOC: is his BMI going up or down, please?)

[Lieutenant JG Ven Miya, CMO)

“Well I wish I could say that it was due to something fun like Opera singing with Klingons or diving with Orion Sharks but unfortunately it was in a simple game of Volley Ball. I actually also snapped my calf but that repaired on its own my ankle however was not so lucky.” He shrugged, “I havent played since, worried it’ll repeat itself and while our medical procedures meant it is fully healed the pain is not worth the risk.” He didn’t move from his laying position as he waited for her to administer the shot.

OOC: Slightly up!

“Ouch, that sounds painful!” Having suffered her own sports injuries from playing springball, she could empathise with the new counsellor’s situation. “It’s a shame you feel you have to give up on your sport, though. If you’d ever like to get back to playing, just let me know - I can work up a physiotherapy regime which would help strengthen your muscles, though you might find it better to start with a slightly gentler sport at first!” While she was talking, she had fitted a vial to the hypospray and, just as she finished speaking, she administered the booster shot to his neck.

“That’s it - all done. You have officially been welcomed on board by sickbay. Although,” she added with a glance at Asher over the top of her PADD, “I do have to tell you that taking up some extra exercise would probably help to reduce your BMI. It’s up - just a little, but it has increased.” She gave him a sympathetic smile. “If you decide to take me up on the offer of the physiotherapy, just let me know!”

[Lieutenant JG Ven Miya, CMO]

His BMI was no surprise, he had been far to lenient on his regime, “Yes well maybe I should get back to running and maybe the idea of being able to play volleyball again does sound equally enjoyable. Ill see when Im free next and we can work on my next step.” He stood up, “Thankyou Doc, and dont forget my office is not to far away I also have annuals to keep” He winked.
