“MacGuffin, Sean MacGuffin,” NE Chekhov, a security ensign, said as he and the other ensign laid him down on the biobed. “This morning, Ma’am. We found him in his bunk when he didn’t report for duty.”

Stepping back he looked around nervously, “Do you think it was the Grapok sauce from last night?”

GM Wombat

“Grapok sauce?” Miya suppressed a shudder. She enjoyed spicy food - her parents had a recipe for hasperat which was eye-wateringly strong - but she’d never understood the need to spread grapok sauce liberally on pieces of animal lung. “Has he eaten it before?” she asked, tapping the ensign’s name into her PADD and fixing her gaze on the biobed’s readouts, ready to interpret them when they appeared. His symptoms didn’t seem to match those of an allergic reaction, though ....

She frowned, watching him through narrowed eyes. Wait to see what the readouts say, Miya, she reminded herself silently.

Chekhov shrugged before reaching up to wipe some sweat off of his own brow, “Well it was a bet or something like that… I don’t know ma’am.”

The readouts on MacGuffin showed that he had a fever, racing heart, and was experiencing muscle spasms as he writhed on the table.

(OOC: sorry for the delayed reply - real life intervened!)

Miya noticed the ensign’s gesture but she was more concerned with her patient, who was clearly experiencing severe symptoms. She compressed her lips as she slapped a vial of the appropriate antipyretic into her hypospray. “Prepare another hypospray with 5ccs of asinolyathin, please,” she instructed the closest medical cadet, “and hand it to me once I’ve administered this.” The muscle relaxant, on top of the antipyretic, would hopefully deal with the worst of MacGuffin’s symptoms, giving them more time to work out how he’d become so ill.

Stepping towards the biobed, she placed one hand on the writhing ensign’s shoulder in an attempt to hold him still - Prophets, he’s really burning up! she thought, feeling the heat rising through his uniform shirt - and brought up the hypospray, intending to inject the drug into his carotid artery. Properly administered, it should take effect quickly.

MacGuffin strained against the restraints, eyes wild, as his head thrashed back and forth, struggling to get free. Soon then the patient relaxed, and was calmed.

However in the corner, Chekhov slumped to the ground, his brow sweating profusely. “Is it hot in here? Like really hot?” The ensign reached up and started to pull off pieces of his uniform. “Gods it is so hot.”

GM Wombat

“It’s not hot. Far from it!” Miya replied in a distracted tone, her attention fixed on the biobed’s readout as she tried to interpret MacGuffin’s vital signs. She frowned, using her PADD to flip back to some of the earlier stats. Just what is going on here? Prophets, this man is in a terrible state!

A shiver ran through her and she turned away briefly to speak to the medical cadet who had helped her seconds earlier. “Can you check the environmental controls, please? It feels like they may be malfunctioning.” Miya turned back just in time to see the second ensign shedding pieces of his uniform at an alarming rate. “What the - ? Ensign, get your clothes on!” she barked automatically, before taking in the sweat beading his brow and making the connection between him and the man on the biobed.

Kosst! Another one?

“Ensign,” she began carefully, “did you eat any grapok sauce last night as well?” As she spoke, she stepped towards him, one hand outstretched to help him up from the floor. “Can you stand? I’ll get you on a biobed, then we’ll see if we can find out what’s making you feel unwell.”
