Katelyn laughed heartily. “You would think, but I’ve been on board about a day longer than you have. My understanding is that much of the senior staff is new as well, so we’ll have our work cut out for us.” She gestured to one of the visitor chairs in front of the boring, Starfleet issued desk. She called over her shoulder on her way over to the in-office replicator, “Can I get you something to drink?”

  • Jacobs, CO

“Ah, so you are one of our longer tenured crew members,” Aaron said with a grin. “A glass of ice water please, thank you Captain.”

Pulling out the indicated chair, he took a seat. He had forgotten the fact that the Academy ships tended to have a high turn over of staff with all the different training crews coming through. At least it would keep things interesting.

Cmdr. Foley - XO

Katelyn’s inky black eyes twinkled as she laughed at Foley’s response and then followed it up with a mock look of pure suspicion. “I’m not sure we’ll get along, Commander, if water is your beverage of choice,” she commented as she finished closing the distance to the replicator with strides that were quite lengthy for her height. She collected Foley’s water and then ordered herself a hot, black coffee, carrying both over to her desk and setting the water in front of the XO. Instead of taking a seat behind her desk, she opted to perch against the side of it as she took a slow sip of the coffee, studying her new XO over the top of her mug as she did so.

“So, any questions about this gig?” she asked as she swallowed the warm beverage.

  • Jacobs, CO

“Well it is still early in the day Captain, and I was up early enough this morning that if I had any more coffee, I might jump to warp speed,” Aaron said with a chuckle.

“As for the ‘gig’, none at this moment. It seems pretty straight forward. I had previously served as XO on Starbase Magellan, and I just finished a tour back at the Academy. So it should hopefully not be to difficult to get back into the swing of things.”

Picking up the glass of water, he took a sip.

“Was there anything that you feel I should be aware of?”

Cmdr. Foley - XO

“You’ve got to work on that tolerance then,” Katelyn commented with a smirk. Her comeback to his question was quick off her tongue as she bantered, “well, that would require me to have any understanding of what’s going on myself, but thankfully, this is probably one of the easier roles that I’ve had to come up to speed on quickly.” She considered the rest of his response for a few moments before pondering out loud, “The Magellan is pretty far out there, isn’t it? It has to be a lot different being back based out of the Academy.”

  • Jacobs, CO

“Out past both Romulan and Klingon space. I was lucky enough to get a pretty direct transport route back to Earth, it only took just under 2 months to make the journey. Besides the job itself, the biggest difference being back at the Academy was just how close at hand everything was. On Magellan we were pretty self sufficient. If we couldn’t make it, it would be weeks in the best case before Starfleet could get parts out to us. In some ways it was almost peaceful being so far out from the core of the Federation.

“But on Earth. A snap of the finger, you could get almost anything you want. I think that was the biggest change. That and taking a step back from being the Executive Officer of a Starbase to teaching classes at the Academy,” Aaron said with a small grin. Picking up his glass, he took another sip of the water.

Cmdr. Foley - XO

Katelyn shook her head with a slight bit of incredulousness. It was insane to think that it could still take two months to get back and forth from a posting; that was almost an entire new tour on a ship. “Well, this is going to be drastically the opposite given we’re back and forth to Earth constantly,” she mused out loud. “I guess that’s slightly more adventurous if you’ve been at the Academy for a while. What were you teaching there?”
