Ah, Mondays. Even in space, they held a special sort of torture. That fact was, of course, entirely Henry’s own fault, given that he made his own department’s deadlines. He still couldn’t remember why he had set a weekly manifest check deadline every Monday, of all days. But it was there, and he’d managed to get everyone to meet it. And now, to the Mess.

The Challenger’s Mess Hall was a quite spacious room, and one that Chief Rodier had entered many a time. He approached the replicator, still contemplating his choice, and decided to treat himself. “Rodier, Henry, Order 11,” he said. Within a few moments, the machine had replicated the order: a large plate containing mashed potatoes, corn, and a sizable hunk of chicken covered in a purpleish-brown sauce. Beside it was a smaller plate containing a mottled portion of what seemed like some sort of brownie or pie, as well as a glass of water.

Collecting his order, Henry moved to a table near the room’s main entrance and sat down, wondering if anyone else might come in search of dinner.

“Mind if I join you Lieutenant?” Aaron said walking up, a cup of coffee in his hand. It might be the evening ship time, but Aaron could use the pick me up.

Henry half stood, a bit of potato on his lip. “Not at all, Commander.” He scooted over a bit, eyeing Aaron’s drink. “Long day, sir?”

“Please, sit,” Aaron said motioning for Henry to take a seat. “Not more so then normal. Just a bit of a pick me up, plus it’s sometimes nice to have something hot to drink. Did you just get off shift yourself?”

Pulling out an empty chair, Aaron pulled himself up to the table.

Henry sat back down, scraping the chair slightly as he pulled himself closer to the table. “As off shift as I can be these days. Seems every time the schedule gets under control, it changes.” He frowned very slightly and took a sip of water, perhaps realizing that might’ve sounded like a jab at the Commander.

Jordy went to enter the room with a hot chocolate. When he saw the lieutenant and comander he went to them.

“Well now that I’m here, hopefully I can help get that schedule a bit more under control.” Picking up his cup, Aaron took a sip. As he lowered the cup, he noticed the Cadet standing there.

“Good evening Cadet…” he said trailing off, leaving an opportunity for the Cadet to fill in his name.

Cmdr. Foley - XO

‘Good evening comander how are you.’

Aaron sighed, he had gotten used to working with senior level cadets. “I’m doing well. What is your name cadet?”

Cmdr. Foley - XO

‘Jordy Kleine sir nice to meet you.’ He is a bit nervous tallking to the first officer.

Henry looked up from his plate. “Ah, Kleine.” He paused a moment to swallow, sneaking a quick glance at the Commander. “Great work on those equipment evaluations.” Indeed, the equipment evaluations were the last thing he had had to approve that week, and their quality had made his life all the easier. But ‘hyping up’ a good officer in front of the XO wasn’t a bad thing, either.

‘Thanks.’Jordy feels proud that his dh said he did his job good where the first officer is near.

“It’s nice to meet you Cadet. Would you like to join us?” he asked gesturing to one of the open seats. “So what evaluations were you working on?”

Cmdr. Foley - XO

‘Sure.’ Jordy said taking a seat. ‘I did some phaser inspections’. Jordy said, he took a sip from his hot chocolate.

Aaron nodded. “Always important to make sure that everything is ready in case of an emergency. You never know when we will all that preparation and practice drills will come in handy.”

Picking up his cup he took another sip of his coffee.
