In the few seconds that he still had at Miya’s side, he motioned to her to take the hypospray from his hand. “Antipyretic calibrated with previous dose administered plus 5cc’s asinolyathin,” he said.

Miya gave the cadet a quick nod. “Perfect. Thank you!” She grabbed the hypospray with her free hand, keeping it hidden from Chekhov as she took the final couple of steps to reach the chair, depositing the ensign onto it with a sigh of relief. Only then did she prepare to administer the shot.

Leaving the current emergency to the Chief, Javal spun around to meet the gaze of the two medical Ensigns who had just been thrusted into his charge, medkits in hand. NE Syme, already on top of the emergency response procedure, gave the Vulcan a little smirk. “Here, you’ll be needing this, Cadet,” and hoisted another medpack into his hands along with a medical tricorder.

“Much obliged,” Javal replied, affixing the tricorder to his utility belt and taking the medpack in hand.

“Now you heard the CMO,” he began again, returning his gaze onto the two Ensigns. “There has been a disturbance in Main Engineering requiring an emergency medical response. We will link up with Chief Engineer Stadi and assess the situation before initiating triage,” he said in a calm, confident manner. “Any questions?”

While the Ensigns gave no reply, Javal could tell the both of them were well prepared to meet the challenge ahead of them.

“Very good, let us proceed,” he said with a nod, before leading the way out of Sickbay at a rapid pace, the two NEs trailing closely behind.

[Cadet Javal - doctor]

As Javal left with the two ensigns in tow, the remaining personnel in sickbay moved into a higher gear, preparing for potential casualties from Engineering and monitoring both Chekhov and MacGuffin. Miya was kept busy co-ordinating sickbay’s response to the emergency, which at least meant she had little time to focus on her ever-present fears about making a mistake or letting someone down.

Miya’s combadge chirped with a new message from Javal.

=^= “Cadet Javal to Dr. Ven. The medical team has successfully reached Main Engineering and had made contact with Chief Engineer Stadi. A large melee had erupted within the bounds of Main Engineering among Lt. Stadi’s crew, the cause of which is currently unknown. The affected crewmen were transported to an auxiliary cargobay by Engineering Cadet Hobbes, and I have received orders from Commander Foley to examine those individuals. I have attached NE Lister to see to the wounded in Main Engineering and to coordinate relief efforts with Sickbay while I head down to the cargo bay with NE Syme and Security Cadet Kleine.” =^=

[Cadet Javal - doctor]

The cadet’s precise speech reminded her of Lieutenant T’Saie, bringing a smile to her lips as she remembered her first CMO. Prophets - Aaron would say I should try to act like her, then eventually I’ll be as calm as she was! Miya took a deep breath, then tapped her commbadge to respond.

=^= Thank you for the update, Cadet. Remember you can beam anyone with serious injuries directly to Sickbay. If you need more medical staff once you get to the cargo bay, let me know. In the meantime, I’ll send another cadet to Main Engineering to help Lister. Ven out. =^=

She directed NC Fleming to take a medical tricorder and medpack to back up NE Lister, then returned to NE Chekhov to monitor his symptoms. Hopefully the Challenger’s medical systems would give her some hint as to the cause of the illness apparently affecting him and NE MacGuffin .....

[Lieutenant JG Ven Miya, CMO]

=^= Sickbay, this is Cadet Little. Emergency call. Location, deck 2, environmental controls. We have a female Klingon, semi-conscious, and sweating. Be advised, possible biohazards. I repeat, possible biohazards. Anti-bacterial suits are recommended. Over. =^=

Cadet Little (Scientist) - Cross-post

Miya froze as the import of Cadet Little’s words broke over her. She glanced over to where NE MacGuffin lay on a biobed with NE Chekhov slumped on a chair nearby. Semi-conscious? Sweating! That’s the same symptoms they both have. But .... but it’s just the grapok sauce that’s making them ill. Isn’t it?

What if the ensigns had been misdiagnosed and they really were affected by some sort of biohazard? Prophets - if it’s an airborne pathogen, everyone in sickbay could potentially be infected! And that included her - she’d even been in physical contact with both men.

“Kosst!” Miya muttered to herself, then spoke more loudly. “Computer - erect biological forcefields around biobeds two and three.” Fortunately, that location covered both sick crewmen - and herself. As the quarantine containment shimmered into place, she called to the NE who was helping the cadets to prepare the sickbay for potential patients.

“Nurse Cadell! There’s a possibility we may be dealing with a biological hazard. I’m still waiting for the results of the scans for these patients, but I’ve been in close contact with them both so I’ll stay in quarantine until we know for sure what’s wrong with them. In the meantime, get everyone here into biohazard suits until we know for sure what’s going on.” Her brain was racing: if there was a pathogen involved, then clearly the Captain had to know but she was still waiting for the results of the tests on both Ensigns ....

Miya picked up the medical tricorder she’d used on NE Chekhov and pointed it at herself. Hopefully, by the time she’d carried out this scan, the test results for the ensigns would be through and she’d have a better idea of what was going on. In the meantime … she tapped her commbadge. =^= Cadet Little - we have a potential biohazard situation in Sickbay. I’ll get someone to you as soon as possible but for now your closest medics are Cadet Javal, who’s on his way to the auxiliary cargo bay, and NE Lister, who’s in main engineering. If you contact them, be sure to warn them to take all precautions when working with the patient - and that goes for you too; stay well clear. I’ll be back in touch once I know more about the biohazard situation. Ven out. =^=

=^= Copy that, standing by for redirection. Lieutenant Williams is here doing a head-to-toe assessment, wearing anti-flash gear. The cargo bay may have some more. =^=

=^= Docter Ven, it seems that Halloween came early, can’t wait to see your costume. Little out. =^=

Cadet Little (Scientist) - Cross-post

She took a deep, steadying breath, then tapped her commbadge again. “Ven to Captain Jacobs. There’s a possibility,” she stressed the word, “that there might be a pathogen aboard the Challenger. I’m awaiting the results of tests and will inform you as soon as I have more information.=^= Instead of ending with “Ven out”, she waited to see if the captain had any further questions - though what answers she might give, she had no idea. Not until the results came back, anyway.

[Lieutenant JG Ven Miya, CMO]

=^= Foley here Doctor. How contagious are we talking about? And do you have any idea on how it might be spread? =^=

Cmdr. Foley - XO (cross post)

Miya grimaced. She hated admitting she didn’t have a clear answer, but at the same time she had to let the senior officers know about something as serious as a potential outbreak.

=^= I have no further information yet, Commander. I’m awaiting the results of tests on two ensigns who were brought into sickbay with what seemed like food poisoning or an allergic reaction, but I’ve just heard about another crew member in environmental controls with similar symptoms. The biohazard warning came from a cadet there. I’ve directed him to our medics who are dealing with the situation in Engineering and in the meantime, I’ve put quarantine measures in place in Sickbay. I’ll inform you as soon as I have these test results, sir. =^=
