After getting the situation settled down in Engineering, Aaron headed back to check in at the bridge first. Hopefully they would be able to find something while treating the engineers.

“Captain, it was pretty crazy down there. Right now we have the effected engineers quarantined, and medical is treating them.”

Cmdr. Foley - XO

A communicator chirped. “Ven to Captain Jacobs. There’s a possibility,” Miya stressed the word, “that there might be a pathogen aboard the Challenger. I’m awaiting the results of tests and will inform you as soon as I have more information.=^= Instead of ending with “Ven out”, she waited to see if the captain had any further questions.

Aaron cursed under his breath as he took a step back from the Captain. =^= Foley here Doctor. How contagious are we talking about? And do you have any idea on how it might be spread? =^=

Cmdr. Foley - XO

=^= I have no further information yet, Commander. I’m awaiting the results of tests on two ensigns who were brought into sickbay with what seemed like food poisoning or an allergic reaction, but I’ve just heard about another crew member in environmental controls with similar symptoms. The biohazard warning came from a cadet there. I’ve directed him to our medics who are dealing with the situation in Engineering and in the meantime, I’ve put quarantine measures in place in Sickbay. I’ll inform you as soon as I have these test results, sir. =^=

Katelyn listened to the conversation between the CMO and the XO, considering their options.

=/\= Thank you, Doctor, keep me informed. =/\=

=^= Aye, sir, I will. Ven out. =^=

It only took a brief moment for her to decide on a plan.

“Commander, work with the COS to restrict movement around the ship. Ideally, people should remain where they are now and with the people they are now so that there is not further contamination. Have someone work to re-construct the affected crew members’ movements throughout the ship and start actively quarantining known contacts.”

  • Jacobs, CO

“That might be harder then we think Captain…” Aaron started before he was cut off by the Doctor’s comm.

=^= Ven to Captain Jacobs. Apparently the two ensigns in sickbay have been infected by a food-borne pathogen - they’ve both eaten grapok sauce, so that could be the cause of the problem. I’m carrying out more scans to isolate and identify the organism, then work out how to deal with it. The good news is that the pathogen doesn’t appear to be airborne, but I’d still recommend caution until we know for sure, sir. =^=

Aaron let out a small sigh of relief. Sloppy, he had let himself be sloppy.

“That could have been a lot worse. In trying to restore order in Engineering, they ended up transporting people out to different locations, plus the security teams then had to get split up to make there ways there. We’ve had a fair amount of movement around the ship…

“But I’ll get the ship under lockdown right away.”

Stepping up to his normal chair, Aaron opened a ship wide comm channel.

=^= This is the XO. Until further notice all personnel are to remain where they are currently. Movement throughout the ship is restricted to essential personnel only. If you must move around, contact the bridge. Foley out. =^=

With that done, hopefully the security teams weren’t stretched to far yet. =^= Foley to Rodier. We are going to need your security teams to enforce the lockdown. How stretched thin are you right now? =^=

Cmdr. Foley - XO

Katelyn’s sigh of relief mimicked Foley’s and she was momentarily concerned that they didn’t need to go to the protocols that she had implemented. She quickly talked herself into the decision being appropriate, though, as it would allow them to move easily through the ship to try to handle the pathogen.

=/\= Thank you for the update, Doctor. Do we know the source of the grapok sauce? =/\=

  • Jacobs, CO

=^= Negative, Captain. Both ensigns who came into sickbay aren’t making much sense at all, I’m afraid. I’ve passed on the details to the sickbay staff who are at Main Engineering and Environmental Controls. If they get any new information from the patients they’re treating, I’ll feed it back to you immediately and if I find out anything, you’ll be the first to know, sir. =^=
