=/\= Thank you for the update, Doctor. Do we know the source of the grapok sauce? =/\=

Miya marshalled her thoughts. =^= Negative, Captain. Both ensigns who came into sickbay aren’t making much sense at all, I’m afraid. I’ve passed on the details to the sickbay staff who are at Main Engineering and Environmental Controls. If they get any new information from the patients they’re treating, I’ll feed it back to you immediately and if I find out anything, you’ll be the first to know, sir. =^= She didn’t sign off, in case the Captain wanted to come back with another question or comment.

With a reassuring smile for Ensign Chekhov, she said, “This will help you relax and feel better.” Trying to keep the hypospray hidden from his view, she prepared to give him a shot of the combined fever medication and sedative.

Thought Miya’s Com badge, Aaron replied : =^= Grapok sauce? I mean, right now, we don’t know the cause, but we’re working on it. And thanks for the advice, we’re taking all the precaution we can. =^=

[Lieutenant JG Ven Miya, CMO]

When Miya got close to Chekhov he sprang at her, forcing her back towards the containment field. “No!,” he bellowed, “You won’t take me alive!” Quickly he searched around looking for something, anything, to brandish as a weapon and hold it in front of himself as a defensive weapon. Settling on a tricorder he hefted it and threw it at Miya before attempting to run away, hitting smack dab in the middle of the containment field.

She was taken by surprise at first and stumbled backwards a few steps, narrowly stopping herself from colliding with the field quarantining that area of sickbay. Chekhov’s follow-up was so swift that Miya barely managed to swing her arm in front of her face to deflect the tricorder away from her. She let out a yelp - more of surprise than pain - as the device hit her lower arm, causing her to drop the hypospray.

As Chekhov collided with the containment field, Miya scrambled for the hypospray and lunged for the ensign, seeking to inject him in the closest part of his anatomy … whatever that might be.

The hypospray came down on the curve of his buttocks. With a yelp the man, stunned from the collision with the containment field, swung with his back arm wide and uncontrolled, cursing in Klingon, before finally passing out, enveloped by the warm but demanding embrace of medicinal sedatives.

Her surge of elation at sedating the troublesome Ensign was short-lived: Chekhov’s wild arm-swing accidentally connected with the side of her face and poleaxed her. Miya let go of the hypospray as she hit the floor, literally seeing stars from the impact of Chekhov’s blow, the gutteral syllables of Klingon curses resounding in her ears; she felt, rather than saw, the ensign collapse to the floor beside her as the sedative took effect.

When she had blinked back to clarity, she pushed herself into a sitting position, gingerly working her jaw from side to side to check if it was broken. The side of her face burned like the legendary flames from Bajor’s Fire Caves and her head was still ringing from the thump she’d received. Gradually, she became aware that sickbay staff were crouched beside her; others were lifting Chekhov onto a biobed and securing him with restraints. Miya focused on Nurse Cadell, whose dark eyes were barely visible behind her protective equipment. She was running a medical tricorder over the Bajoran.

“Wait - the … containment field!” Miya mumbled, abruptly realising that it must have been shut down if her colleagues were there. Cadell shook her head.

“We had to bring it down, Doctor. You were injured, the patient was on the floor - even if you weren’t hurt, you’d have struggled to lift him onto a biobed by yourself. You said it yourself, the field was precautionary. The ship’s been placed on lockdown, so nobody should be coming to sickbay, and if it’s airborne, we’d all have been infected by now.” She lowered her voice so only Miya could hear her. “If you want to place me on report, you can, sir, but we had to get in to help you and Chekhov.”

Miya started to shake her head, then wished she hadn’t as her vision clouded again. “N-no … you - you did the right thing. Thank you.” She tried to smile but it hurt, so she stopped. With assistance from the nurse, she managed to lever herself to her feet, though she had to lean against the third biobed for support.

“You might want to lie down,” Cadell suggested, before offering Miya the tricorder to view the results of her injuries.

(OOC: Dear GM, is Chekhov a Klingon? Or does he just curse in the lingo? Just wondering ....!)

[Lieutenant JG Ven Miya, CMO]

OOC: don’t want to revive the Main Engineering thread, so my apologies for pushing something slightly unrelated in here - fantastic post Claire!

IC:
=^= Rodier to all unassigned Security officers. We are enforcing an unarmed movement ban on all non-essential personnel. Two-officer teams will rotate between their decks. If you encounter hostility, back off and call for help - do not engage. Rodier out. =^=
Henry took a breath, then stepped over to the nearest terminal in Engineering. It took him probably more taps than it should have, but finally he said “Computer, lock down all weapons.” With that taken care of (he hoped), the Chief headed at a speedy pace to the turbolift, said “Deck 6,” and waited.

~ Lt. jr. gr. Rodier - CoS

The two, very much human, ensigns weaved in and out of conciseness muttering Klingon and English curses both, and occasionally struggling against their restraints. Eventually they both settled down though, but their stats continued to worsen.
