Dael walked into the EPS systems as frazzled as he’d ever looked. Realigning a warp matrix was nothing compared to having his staff turn into a bunch of raving lunatics swinging fists all over his warp room. He found Katie after a quick scan and walked over to the cadet.

“Good job on getting everyone out of the Engineering , Hobbes. I don’t know what’s come over everyone in there but they started swinging at each other and me. In my Engineering deck. They better hope whatever has them acting like this is mind-control, or they’ll wish it was something fatal.” He took a deep breath and worked to regain his focus. All the rest could wait, the functioning members of the Engineering team had a job to do. “I’ve been getting scattered reports of the situation, looks like you’ve done well keeping them isolated and from damaging anything. What else have I missed?”

-Lt. jg Dael Stadi, CE

Katherine smiled for a moment at the Lieutenant’s remark but dropped it immediately. Perhaps he was actually serious about doing something fatal to those folks. She turned to the display.

“It appears that we have most of the people from Engineering in the zero-grav cargo bay… Making it zero gravity did reduce their ability to harm anyone or anything… but it is not a perfect containment,” she said. She tapped the screen. “There is a force field projector that is out here so it is theoretically possible someone could get out.”

She turned to Stadi.

“My biggest worry is that I don’t actually know what caused this. We may need to do something with air circulation. Or perhaps something to the potable water system. Or, for all I know, there is a programming glitch in the replicators,” Katie said. She took a deep breath. “I just don’t know what the next highest priority should be.”

OOC: (I’m going to go ahead and put the XO’s shipwide communication in this post since this thread wasn’t here for him to cross-post into when he made it)

Dael took a moment to consider what the cadet had told him. The containment in the cargo bay was definitely a concern, he didn’t want whatever this was spreading to the other parts of the ship if it could be helped. He still didn’t know why it was getting extremely cold on the ship either and that was a concern, but first things were first. “We definitely don’t have enough information at this point… So, we need to focus on what’s in front of us until we do. Good job on the zero-G, that will help where our forcefields are lacking.” He tried not to grumble to much in front of his cadet, but the fact that a system had failed like that during a crisis was one he would not let himself live down. It always happened it seemed, but that didn’t mean he had to like it. “If the force field…” he continued but stopped as the ship-wide channel opened.

=^= This is the XO. Until further notice all personnel are to remain where they are currently. Movement throughout the ship is restricted to essential personnel only. If you must move around, contact the bridge. Foley out. =^=

“Well… Sounds like maybe the Bridge might know what’s going on. Cadet, care to give them a sit-rep and ask what they know?” Dael said turning to Katie and quirking an eyebrow and a slight grin. Sure, this was definitely a crisis situation for the ship, having crew members attack one another unprovoked wasn’t something that happened everyday, and sure he was the senior officer. But he remembered when he had to take charge during a crisis on the Bridge and answer for the Engineering team, and he’d made it out fine. At least, he liked to think so. He certainly didn’t when that was happening, but this was an Academy ship, and now was a good as time as any to get the cadet used to addressing the Bridge crew.

Katie took a deep breath and nodded.

“Of course, sir,” she said as she tapped her communicator. “Bridge. XO. Cadet Katherine Hobbes, engineer, reporting from the EPS center. We … I… we have teleported the majority of the rioters in Engineering to Auxiliary Cargo Bay to eliminate the possibility of them damaging any critical equipment and turned off the artificial gravity in the Auxiliary Cargo Bay to make it more difficult for them to engage in undesirable behavior. Sir.”

Katy grimaced. That didn’t come out like she wanted. She took a second deep breath. It was just her career in Starfleet on the line so she might as well go for broke.

“Sir, if I may ask… we’re working in the dark here. Can you tell me… us… me what in Heaven’s name is going on?”

She glanced at Stadi, hoping that the coming reprimand wouldn’t be too severe.
