Jordy is doing a phaser training in the holodeck he hears the comm message and says. ‘End program.’ Jordy tapps on his commbadge. =^= Im on my way sir.=^= Jordy heads to the mess hall.

When arriving at the mess hall he enters it.

As Jordy entered the mess hall, he found it both eerily dark and quiet - like something was up.

As Jordy’s suspicions likely grew of the situation, the lights suddenly flickered on to reveal a gaggle of people huddled around a rather large chocolate cake, jubilantly addressing their “victim.”

“Happy birthday, Jordy!!” was the enthusiastic cry they gave in unison (all except Javal, who still gave the customary expression, but with decidedly less gusto).

Miya joined in the shout, clapping in the Bajoran fashion with back of one hand against the palm of the other. She was aware of Javal’s more muted cry of welcome but knew that, for him, it was the Vulcan equivalent of jubilance. Quite a few NCs and NEs from Sickbay had joined the crowd of people at the birthday party, much to the chagrin of the staff who had to remain on duty. Eyeing the spectacular cake, Miya thought there might even be enough left after the party for the whole crew of the Challenger to enjoy! Hopefully those on duty now would be able to grab a slice later.

(OOC: just getting Miya into the crowd! More interaction to follow once Jordy reacts to the surprise. :D )

Henry slammed his palms together in a quite excessively loud initial clap, his excitement overwhelming him as he awaited the Cadet’s reaction with a huge smile on his face.

Jordy sees the lights go on and the people comming from their hiding spots and he smiles saying. ‘Thanks everyone.’

After some happy birthdays and pats on the back, Henry said, “well, the cake won’t wait forever!” And took a sizable stab at the center of the delectable dessert. The first piece was, of course, served to Jordy, and more was offered to anyone else within the Chief’s line of sight.

Jordy accepts his plate and says ‘thank you.’

Miya accepted a plate from Lieutenant Rodier with a shy smile and a word of thanks. Seeing him in a social setting reminded her of the hot tub graduation ceremony and the indecorous thoughts she’d entertained since then after seeing him in his swimwear. At the time of the ceremony, she’d been a cadet and he a Lieutenant, so thinking about him was as far as she could go; now they were both the same rank but she still couldn’t quite muster the courage to tell him how she felt.

Instead, she drifted to the side of the crowd and took a bite of the cake. Her eyes widened at the taste. Raising her voice, Miya called, “Thanks to whoever created this cake - it’s delicious!” To Jordy, she added in a more normal tone, “And thank you for having a birthday at a time when we could all do with a bit of a celebration! So how old are you today?”

Jordy takes a bite from the cake.

‘19.’ Jordy replies. ‘And you are right this cake is delicious.’ Jordy says and takes another bite

Javal, who for the moment was merely content with observing the crowd of people suddenly huddling themselves around the cake as soon as they gave their jubilant greeting, noticed Dr. Ven’s comment about the cake.

“I believe the proper attribution for the design of this confection goes to Mr. Rodier,” Javal said to Miya, gesturing toward the cheery Chief of Security who was busy dolling out generous portions of dessert to the eager mouths that waited to taste of its chocolatey bounty. “I had also played a minor advisory role in the matter, given my experience with Mr. Kleine, and it seems that our arrangement appears to have been a successful one.”

‘Well you guys are good, you two need to become the crew’s cake baker.’ Jordy said smiling.

“I think I agree!” Miya nodded at Jordy, then tilted her head to look up at the tall Vulcan. “You could have a new career in baking if you ever decide to diversify from medicine,” she finished with a broad smile, hoping he would pick up on her attempt at humour. “Of course, that would mean Lieutenant Rodier would have to take a break from his Security role too, just to keep your baking team together. But at least he’d make sure your cakes would always be safe!”

It was a poor attempt at a joke but she was a doctor, not a comedian, after all.

Overhearing, Henry flashed a smile in Ven’s direction. “The safest bakery this side of Bajor!”
“I appreciate both of your compliments. I was…unsure at first whether my limited experience with human celebratory customs may been of much benefit to Mr. Rodier and his preparations, but it appears that it was not,” he said, in that logical yet fairly humble fashion of his.

Dr. Ven’s suggestion, while clearly meant to be read in a humorous manner, wasn’t readily picked up by the Vulcan doctor, and he began to think to himself for just a minute about what his superior had just suggested.

“That possibility had not occurred to me before…” he said, withdrawing himself slightly and speaking in kind of a mumbled tone, but noticeably still loud enough to be heard by his two coworkers. “…From a medical perspective, perhaps quality control in terms of nutritional ‘safety’ is a prudent measure for any further baking endeavors of ours. The cholesterol content of this confection in particular is notably high…”

Whether or not this may have spoiled anyone’s appetite by saying these harsh but true facts, none could say. However, Javal had already started to theorize ideas as to how to improve his culinary technique.

Finally snapping out of his own thoughts, he turned to Jordy and said, “In any case, I trust that our ‘surprise party’, as I am informed it’s called, was to your satisfaction, Jordy.”

OOC: Might this be the start of a promising new hobby for Chef Javal, the taste bud doctor? :D

“Thank you, Jordy. Glad we could make it a happy time for you. Which reminds me…” He removed a small gift-box from beneath the table and placed it in front of Jordy. “The crew thought you should have something to remember your last birthday outside of the mainstream fleet.”
