Dael tried to will the cadet to breathe easy and find her footing while listening to the message. They learn by doing he thought to himself, trying to rationalize not stepping in to take over to try and help. He didn’t like seeing his team struggle, especially when it came to something that was also not high on his list of preferences. Struggle with a tough repair, sure. Send a clear and concise communique to command staff, not his favorite. But you learned by doing. He twinged a little at the last addition to the communication. He tried not to show it too much, but it was still a visible enough reaction. A bit of a rough start, for sure, they definitely needed to work on that.

“I think in the future you might want to take a few more deep breaths and slow down next time. And while we are under a bit of stress here be a little more…” he struggled to find the right word that wouldn’t make his cadet even more apprehensive about talking to the command staff. “....tactful next time. Don’t think of it as talking to the Commander of a Starfleet starship. Think of it as delivering a report to your next duty shift, or composing a technical log…but with much more “sirs” involved. That’s what used to help me out.” He’d probably have to go over the details more in depth at a later date, right now they had a ship to get back into order. The time for a stern lecture on proper communicator etiquette wasn’t right now.... though that last bit certainly was a new one from a cadet.

“With any luck they’ll give us a good sit-rep back and we can see where we need to go from here. I’d like to know what’s causing my staff to go berserk on my deck and are now floating in one of our cargo bays.”

=^=Foley to Lt Stadi. Do you have enough engineers left to do a bit of investigative work? =^=

Dael furrowed his brow and looked at his communicator. The Commander was newer to the ship, but from what he’d seen it didn’t seem like the man to ignore Katie’s communication. He resisted the urge to tap his commbadge and reply, but the new puzzle in front of him and his desire to train the cadet took that over quickly. He reached for a nearby alcove where he knew a toolkit was and picked up a tricorder. “I know he wouldn’t just not acknowledge what you said Cadet, your nervous comments notwithstanding.... Uh huh…” he muttered as the scan blipped at him. “Your communicator isn’t broadcasting like it should, might be some interference going on.... Yep, we’ve got some interference with our EPS systems configuring your commbadge’s wavelength to the wrong setting. Odd that it would start up like that, but who knows what else is happening on this ship.” Which is something he should definitely know, seeing how he was the Chief Engineer, but he neglected to say that outloud. He inputted a few commands into the device and looked back up at his cadet.

“Good news Hobbes, looks like you get what a lot of people don’t get, a second chance at a first impression. Try your communique again, from the top. I’ll have you answer the Commander for me. And remember…breathe.”

-Lt. jg Dael Stadi, CE

Katie closed her eyes, took as casual a breath as she could and tried to think serene thoughts. Night time at home, Phobos making its way through a starry field. Nicholas and Jasmine in the other room. She smiled and tapped her communicator.

=^= Cadet Katherine Hobbes, engineer, to XO Foley. Chief Engineering Officer Stadi and I are in EPS Systems Control. To report our immediate situation, we have teleported most of the rioters from Engineering to Auxiliary Cargo Bay to eliminate the possibility of them damaging any critical equipment and turned off the artificial gravity in the Auxiliary Cargo Bay to make it more difficult for them to engage in undesirable behavior. =^= Katie glanced over at Stadi and took his expression to mean she should slow down and take another breath. =^= We are working on assessing the status of the Engineering personnel at this time. If we could safely relocate, we would be able to complete our assessment more quickly. =^=

That wasn’t too bad, Katie thought.

Dael did his best to give what he remembered the human crew teaching him was a gesture of affirmation, known as a “thumbs-up”. “Much better.” he said quietly while waiting on the Commander’s reply.

=^=Understood Cadet Hobbes. What do you need in order to relocate, and where are you relocating to? =^=

Cmdr. Foley - XO (Cross post)

Katie glanced over at the Lieutenant.

“What should I tell him, sir? Should we repair the force field projector near the Auxiliary cargo bay? Go to Engineering and sort through whoever is left there? Check to see if any of our people in the Cargo Bay are in any condition to do actual work?”

Thinking for a moment on their current situation, Dael crossed his arms and began rubbing his chin. It was a quirk he had never quite gotten rid of when having to focus his thoughts. He always assumed the tactile sense him to filter all the other things around him, including other minds, to think only on the problem and the automatic motion. Or he could just have a nervous tick and that was that, he also knew he had a tendency to over-analyze things.

“Until I hear otherwise, I’m going to go on the assumption the medical and security teams are handling the cargo bay efficiently.” he began, his tone a little more monotonous as if reading off a list. Which he was, fitting that picture in his mind as he organized the information around him and paced slightly, chin still in hand. “And that our team isolated there are in no capacity to function until we get the clear from Sickbay. But we should keep our ears out in case they need help with it in a hurry.” The Betazoid shivered a bit, and noted the cold again. “Ask the Commander if he’s assigned anyone to figure out why our environmental controls seem to be not up to par. With all the excitement in Engineering we haven’t had a chance to try and look into that. Otherwise our best bet at an assessment of ship’s systems and our current status would be Main Engineering, making sure we’re back in shape after the brawl and we can support the ship better from there, barring any other situation that we might come across.”

He finally looked up at Katie and brought her and his surroundings back into focus. “That’s what I’m seeing right now as our priorities if the Bridge is still implementing some form of quarantine.”

=^= Cadet, the situation if you need more time on next steps, let me know. I need to get back to monitoring the situation with the infected crew members. You can contact me when you are ready. =^=

Cmdr. Foley - XO (crosspost)

OOC: Let me know if there is anything here you specifically need me to respond to.
