=^= Sure, Ven. I’ll meet you at sickbay to take a sample of the virus and the grapok sauce.=^=

(Lieutenant JG Aaron Williams - cross-post)

=^= Acknowledged, Aaron. I’ll get one of the cadets to prepare the samples for you - we’re about to have more patients transported here, so I may not be able to see you when you arrive. Let’s see who synthesises a cure first - science or sickbay! =^= A trace of amusement momentarily threaded through her voice before she added, =^= And … thank you. Ven out. =^=

Quickly she passed on the information to the researchers, instructing them to prepare samples of both the grapok sauce and the pathogen for the Chief Science Officer when he arrived.

Jordy taps on his commbadge and says. =^=Kleine to Sickbay prepare to recieve some of the infected crew im beaming to sickbay with Javal and the infected crewmen.=^=

Cadet Jordy Kleine - Security (Cross post)

“Stand by - the patients are about to arrive! Check your PPE is secure,” Miya called to her staff before responding more formally to the hail. =^= Acknowledged, Cadet Kleine. We’re ready for you. Commence transport when ready. =^=

After a few minutes, the lights and hum of someone transporting into sickbay could be observed. Kleine and about five engineers appeared in the middle of the sickbay, the engineers barely aware of their surroundings much less who they were. One wretched on his side as he started to pass out again.

GM Wombat

Javal’s arrival in Sickbay was delayed to a few minutes after Kleine and five of the engineers appeared. The Vulcan doctor had delayed his egress from the cargo bay just long enough for him to relay a couple of orders to the medical NEs to monitor the affected crewmen and provide fluids where needed.

As the shimmer of the transporter lifted to reveal the Sickbay around him, Javal noticed that the sick engineers were already being seen to by Dr. Ven and the other medical staff. The Cadet sprang to action and rushed to Jordy and Miya’s side.

Miya hurried forwards, antigrav stretcher in tow, aiming for the crewman who seemed to be most ill. “Let’s get them onto the biobeds,” she instructed the sickbay personnel, helping to position the stretcher so they could transfer the sick man to the bed. As the biobeds began to fill up, Miya paused beside Cadet Javal. “Report, please, Cadet. What treatments have you used on these crewmen?”

[Lieutenant JG Ven Miya, CMO]

Javal glanced over to his superior as he began to take stock of the situation.

“The medical response team initially dispatched to Main Engineering has provided hydration and antipyretic medication to the affected personnel currently being held in the cargo bay where possible. Additionally, I instructed NE Syme and Lister to remain in the cargo bay to continuously monitor the state of the remaining engineers at this time…” he said calmly before interrupting his report to turn his attention to the man writhing on the floor.

“Good. Well done. And thank you!” the Bajoran added as Javal stooped to help with the patient on the floor.

Bending down to the level that Miya was at as she prepared the antigrav stretcher, Javal motion quickly to the ailing patient. “Here, allow me to assist you.” He proceeded to prop the patient up gently, supporting the engineer’s weight with his chest as he wrapped his arms around the contours of the man’s armpits, and securing his torso by joining his hands together at the level of the diaphragm. As he did so, he looked over at Jordy, the closest person who could render aid.

“Mr. Kleine, please hold firmly onto the patient at the level of his ankles. We shall lift him onto the stretcher together.”

Javal was confident that Jordy knew what to do in this situation - all Starfleet personnel had received a certain amount of medical training, and supporting injured personnel in an emergency setting was one of such competencies tested at the Academy.

[Cadet Javal - doctor]

‘Alright i am capable of doing That’ Jordy says. He grabs the patient by his ankles and pulls them up. ‘What are you gonna do with him?’ He asks to Javal.

Cadet Jordy Kleine - Security

“Thank you, Mr. Kleine,” Javal said, bearing the man’s weight on his end. “We will gently place the crewman onto the stretcher here. We will be able to take care of the rest.”

Hopefully, the combination of Javal and Jordy’s strength would prevent the crewman from trying anything too drastic as they transferred him gingerly to the stretcher…hopefully.

[Cadet Javal - doctor]

Jordy pulls the patient up.

As Javal felt the slight decrease in weight on his end as Jordy began to pull the patient up on his side, he began to slowly move in tandem with the security officer over toward the awaiting stretcher.

Wallks to the stretcher.

“Very good. Gently now…” Javal said as he began to guide the man onto the stretcher.

And puts the patient on the stretcher.

Cadet Jordy Kleine - Security

“Thank you for your help, cadets. You make an excellent team!” Miya wasn’t just making smalltalk. She knew she’d have to write evaluations on the performance of all the medical cadets and although Jordy wasn’t in her team, she would happily pass on positive news to Lieutenant Rodier about the efforts of his security cadet.

The Sickbay’s doors opened, revealing Aaron. The first thing he saw was Jordy bending over an antigrav stretcher, and around him were Miya and a cadet in a suit that he guessed to be Javal.

Trying not to disturb Jordy’s maneuver, the Lieutenant approached Miya from the side. He could see on her face she was quite worried about his first big operation as a CMO, as he was a bit confused himself. “How’s it going, Ven ?”, he asked her gently.

Lieutenant JG Aaron Williams - CSO

“Oh - everyone is working together as a team, but it’s been quite … stressful.” Miya managed a tentative smile as she glanced round the sickbay, checking to ensure the newly-transported patients were being examined on the biobeds. She dropped her voice so only Aaron could hear, the tension in her voice now all too evident. “I feel as if I’m about to enter the Fire Caves - if we don’t synthesise a cure soon, I’m worried we’ll lose a lot of our patients.”

“I’m worried too”, said Aaron with a little sigh. “But we’ll find a cure, I’m sure about that. After all, we saw worse than that, like… carnivorous Tribbles…”, he add in an over-dramatic way, hoping it would ease her tension.

Now that the last engineer was safely on the stretcher, Javal looked over at Jordy.

“Your assistance is much appreciated, Mr. Kleine. I believe we can take over medical operations from here.”

He promptly turned to face Miya to inform her that another patient was ready for her, but stopped when he noticed what looked to be the Chief Science Officer was speaking with her.

“Ah, if I remember the personnel record correctly, I believe you are…Dr. Williams? Thank you for responding so promptly to our communique,” the Vulcan said with a nod, followed by a quick glance over at the engineer to see how he was holding up.

[Cadet Javal - doctor]

Aaron nodded back at the Vulcan with a smile: “The pleasure is mine, Dr. Javal. I see you got the situation in hand with the Lieutenant.” It was easy to guess the cadet’s identity since he was the only Vulcan cadet in the medical department. Even though he was quite fascinated about Vulcan ways, now wasn’t the time for a little chat, but he kept his mind to talk to Javal later.

Jordy tapps on his commbadge and says =^=Kleine to Rodier we are done in the cargo bay do you need me somewhere.=^=

Cadet Jordy Kleine - Security

“Thank you, Cadet Kleine, for your help with the patients. Cadet Javal, could you do a full examination of the patient on biobed four, please? I’ll be back once I’ve given Lieutenant Williams the samples for testing.”

Miya walked across sickbay to the laboratory area where two NCs and one NE were working on the grapok sauce, sequencing the pathogen and running through various treatment options. The Bajoran picked up a covered box and held it out to Aaron.

“Here’s some of the grapok sauce Security retrieved from the quarters of one of the first victims. I’ll share our test results so far,” she nodded to one of the NCs, who started to download the information and send it to the ship’s computer system, where it could be accessed via the science labs. “If you and your cadets can combine your scientific knowledge with what we’ve discovered so far, I’m sure we’ll have a treatment soon. Hopefully while we can still save their lives,” she added, her eyes shadowed as she looked across to where Ensigns MacGuffin and Chekhov were lying, restrained, on their biobeds.

[Lieutenant JG Ven Miya, CMO]

Looking at the Ensigns lying in their biobeds, over sweating and grunting, Aaron felt the weight of his responsibility on his shoulder. Lives are at stake, and he was the one who will bring them back or the one who will let them slowly faint in the arm of the death.
Watching these ill people not only brings to him his sense of responsibility but also motivated him to create the cure. Not only because it was his job, but because he had to do it. It was his duty as a human and a Doctor.

With a serious tone, he took the box from Miya’s hands: “Rest assured. I’ll find a cure.” He then pressed his comm badge and says :

=^= Lieutenant Williams to All Science officers. Report to the Microbiology Lab and prepare the instrument for virus analysis, biohazard class 2. I’m on my way with the sample=^=

Before leaving, Aaron asked Miya: “By the way Ven, did you identify all the symptoms ?”
