Roger was going to be late. If he didn’t start moving within the next 7 minutes, he would be late for his first assignment onboard the Challenger. That was not good. Roger found some new and hidden energy and started moving faster, doing up his buttons and quickly putting on his shoes. He went up to the mirror and did a quick appraisal. “Ok”, he said to himself, “Ok I look presentable.” 3 minutes down and he was good to go!

Exiting his cabin he looked at the corridor and realized that he did not know the way to his CO’s office. “Things seemed to be going really well!” Roger thought. He quickly asked the computer for directions to the Chief of Security’s office and estimated that it would take him just over 2 minutes to get there. After following the path recommended by the computer, Roger was in front of his CO’s office door, a bag of nerves, almost ready to go in.

He rehearsed what he was going to say in his head then approached the door and pressed the chime button. After a few seconds he heard, “Come in”. The doors opened and Roger walked in.

His CO, Lieutenant Junior Grade Henry Rodier, was seated at his desk shuffling through some papers. Roger thought that some of those papers must definitely be a part of his file. His CO, he noticed, did not look much older than him. This was a man good at his job and Roger felt excited at the prospect of learning from someone talented.

Roger quickly stood at attention and said, “Cadet Bingham reporting for duty sir!”.

OOC: Great first post! You already have our style worked out really well. The only I have to note is to remember to sign off your posts with your character name and rank, so other people know who posted what. You’ll see my sign-off at the bottom of this post as an example.
Otherwise, fantastic job! I’m excited to write with you :)

As a matter of fact, the stack of papers Henry was shuffling through was primarily composed of paper copies of equipment and personnel evaluations - though they were stored online, he liked to keep physical copies of recent reports as a backup for any possible file corruptions. The PADD sitting next to the papers, however, was open to Cadet Bingham’s overview, which the CoS picked up as he became aware of the man’s presence.

“Nice to meet you, Cadet,” he replied, gesturing to the two dark blue cushioned chairs sitting across from his desk. “Please, take a seat. How’ve you been finding the Challenger so far?” Henry put down the PADD, resting his arms on his desk as he gazed toward the wall opposite him. Even when not looking directly at it, the dark swirls and bright arcs of the painting hung there put him at ease, as he hoped it did to anyone entering his office.

OOC: Thank you! Glad I didn’t make any major errors! I will remember to sign off from this post.

“Please, take a seat. How’ve you been finding the Challenger so far?” said Lieutenant Junior Grade Henry Rodier, his CO. Later, Roger would recall this moment and run down all the dozens of answers that came to his mind about how amazing Challenger was and how lucky he was to be there. In normal space-time though, he said, “She’s an amazing ship. I have never been on a Discovery-class starship before this and I don’t think I was mentally prepared for how great she looks. I was stuck to the window on approach in the shuttle. You don’t often get to see the ship you are posted on from the outside and I wasn’t going to miss the opportunity! “

Roger almost forgot to sit. He moved towards the left chair and took a seat and said, “Thank you sir.”

Henry smiled at the Cadet’s enthusiasm. “Right you are. I don’t believe I’ve seen her from the outside since my posting, though I’ve certainly gotten to know plenty of nooks and crannies in the ship itself - she is a beauty.” He paused to take a sip from a cup sitting to his right - some unknown clear liquid.

“Now, I must first ask. What made you decide to join Starfleet?”

Roger had often thought of this and it really wasn’t something he ever doubted. While he didn’t think his need felt like a purpose, he hoped it would give him one.

He looked over at his CO, drinking what he assumed was coffee, “I feel…I guess you could say that I feel a pull of the black. I’ve always wanted to be in space, on a starship or a station or somewhere, as long as it was in space. Joining the Academy was just a way to realize what I wanted to do in Starfleet, but I always wanted to be in Starfleet and out in space.”
