The Challenger had laid in a course and was on its way towards Sol once more, when an impact warning light clicked on on the helm. Moments later the Challenger, was rocked as something struck the ship.

In seconds klaxons went off as every warning the ship had went off. The bridge, technically, was descending into chaos.

GM Wombat
OOC: Was the Challenger hit while at warp or while laying in a course and prepping to warp?

OOC: Oh let’s say at warp because, why not?

IC:
Chief Rodier was sitting with his head leaning on (well, more squished against) his hand, doing his best to look in charge. He was grateful to be trusted enough to be left on the Bridge, but gratefulness wasn’t always a cure for boredom.

What was a cure for boredom was chaos, which is exactly what he was rewarded with as the klaxons brought him shooting up from his seat with a drowned-out exclamation of “What the hell?” Not… what I was… okay, ran through his mind, multiple thoughts combining into one, as often happened to him in urgent situations. With that moment of panic passed, he took in the Bridge, as well as the multiple officers who were, for lack of a better word, freaking out. Training… he thought, his eyes closing briefly. One of his Academy exercises came back to him, and he reached for his commbadge. =^= Captain to the Bridge, =^= he said, unmistakable urgency in his voice.

With his superior alerted, Henry could only handle the situation to his best capacity for the time being. Looking down at the Bridge Officers closest to him, he said, “Ship status report.”

The ops ensign tapped the console urgently as the ship fell out of warp. “Damage reported on decks seven, eight, and nine. Emergency force fields erected. Engineering is reporting a hull breach on the port side, deck eight. Casualties and injured reported on all levels.” She looked up and swallowed hard, “Scanners indicate that we are in some sort of asteroid field, sir. They seem to be charged such as to pass through our deflector screen.”

GM Wombat

Kalos was momentarily stunned as the bridge exploded into chaos, but suddenly realizing that he needed to be doing something, he scanned the engineering console. “that first impact seems to have knocked inertial dampers offline, but other than that all of our main systems seem to be online. We cant take another hit like that.” assessing the conditions of the shields Kalos realized that the solution to this problem was easy he started again, “May I recommend instead of shooting everything in our way we use the computer to calculate a velocity vector based on the average trajectories of the surrounding asteroids. If there is any pattern in the motion of the asteroids then that should minimize collisions as long as we do not deviate from the course the computer plots.”

(OOC: This is my first post in the main sim, so I dont know what I can and cant do or a whole lot about roleplaying in an environment like this. Hope everything here is alright, but if not let me know and I can fix it. Thanks for your patience.)

OOC: As GM it is my job to referee that so don’t worry. I won’t bite. Typically most GMs will allow you to do things that you can reasonably do as your character. Coming in and God modeing, or white knighting will probably cause a discussion behind the scenes.

The absolute worst case, I can void a post if it is inconsistent with the plot of the sim (but I will give you the opportunity to refine or edit it first). If you do something tendentiously unsafe, like walk into the core ala Spock in Wrath of Khan you will get what is called a “Death Warning” basically, if you continue down this path your character will die, but we will work through this scenarios as/if they come up.

-Cadet Kalos Onovren, Engineer.
OOC: Please ignore my other post! I took too long writing it and split the thread. Great job Kalos!

IC:
Henry allowed the information relayed to him by the ensign and cadet to seep into his mind, his eyes getting a little wider with every report. From the location of the damage to the location of the ship itself, this wasn’t good. And he was reaching the limits of his operational capacity. In fact, he wasn’t even fully sure what control he could exercise over the ship in this situation - most of the scenarios he’d been put through in the Academy had had him as either the Captain or XO of a given ship. But now…

No. Doesn’t matter, he thought. If you’re here, it’s your responsibility to do your best. Now.

“Red alert,” he said, and as the lights began to flash, he took a deep breath and looked back down at the bridge crew. “Helm, evasive maneuvers. Do as Cadet Kalos suggested. Ops, evacuate all external hallways.”

A tap of his commbadge. =^= XO and Bingham to the Bridge. Bridge to Stadi, report. =^= Henry didn’t make a habit of keeping tabs on the ship’s Chief Engineer, but he had high hopes that he happened to be near one of the affected areas - Dael often seemed to be in the right place at the right time.

~ Lt. jr. gr. Rodier - CoS who’s trying his best

=^= I was about to ask you the same thing, Bridge.=^= he rasped back. =^= I don’t know what just happened, but I got a nice view of the weather outside. It’s freezing.=^= he added with cough, trying to make light of what just happened to try and make his brain cope.

The ops ensign nodded as she furiously tapped commands on the panel. “Attempting to secure hallways… Sir I am showing the breach is dangerously close to the deuterium fuel storage tanks. If engineering doesn’t get that fixed soon we may lose impulse control.”

The helm officer pipped up here, “I can’t take her back to warp until we get these rocks out of the way. They will shred us to ribbons if the deflector can’t push them out of the way.”

GM Wombat

=^= I’m on the Battle Bridge on Deck 8, I see our emergency force-fields aren’t cutting on to contain the breach on this deck. I’m doing what I can from here but there’s no Engineering console....... Cadet Onovren should be with you on the bridge. The structural integrity field may be having issues with whatever hit us, see if he can get some power to it. Hopefully it’s just that and not a damaged emitter issue.=^=

-Lt jg. Dael Stadi, CE (cross-post)

Henry turned to Cadet Onovren and nodded. “Reroute power from nonessential systems. Get those forcefields working.” =^= Stadi, grab a team, prioritize the deuterium storage. Tell me what you need, we’ll get it to you. =^= Noting the tremor in the engineer’s voice, he added, =^= And Dael, be careful. =^= The CoS-turned-acting-captain paused to take a breath, realizing how many more orders he had to give. Starting to remember why I never envied the captain’s chair… he thought.

Reluctantly sitting back down in said captain’s chair, he pressed his hand on the armrest, activating the full-ship comm. =^= Attention all Medical and Security personnel: triage protocol. Form two-person teams and evacuate all injured crew to Sickbay. Do not treat anyone on-site unless absolutely necessary. Use transporters as necessary. =^=

He released his hand, as well as a gust of air from his lips. Talking to his department was one thing, but the whole ship was a bit of a stressor on anyone. =^= Bridge to Williams, we’re in a charged asteroid field. Try to find out where these damn things came from, and how we can stop them. =^=

And finally, he looked down at the bridge itself. “Tactical, target all objects on a potential collision course with us. Hold fire on my order.” With that, Rodier collapsed backward into the seat, finally allowing himself to breathe.

OOC: If the GM would please let me know if Henry’s overstepping, that would be much appreciated. Just trying to get people doing things haha
~ Lt. jr. gr. Rodier - CoS

OOC: also if the GM could let us know what the problem actually is because obviously kalos wants it to be a simple power issue but what if it is more, I cant make that call I dont think?
