Leaving sickbay, Kalos knew he wasn’t going enjoy his last evaluation, but he wanted to get to work in engineering. Despite his initial reservations, after meeting Lt. Stadi he was really looking forward to his work aboard the Challenger, so he just needed to get this over with. Pressing the door chime on the counselors office, Kalos took a deep breath and braced himself for the worst.

(OOC: Hey, sorry I haven’t written Kalos’s bio yet, but I have a pretty clear idea of his past history and hope to write his bio during this evaluation)

The doors swished open onto a seating area, a large L-shaped sofa upholstered in blue against a darker blue wall on a lighter blue carpeting. Overhead lights were accompanied by two glowing orbs on a coffee table and an end table. Another end table carried a red vase filled with white daisies; the red matched the dress in a painting over the couch, where the woman wearing danced barefoot with a man in a tuxedo on a wet beach as a butler and maid carried umbrellas against the invisible rain.

Off to the right was a desk, at which sat a human woman, her dark hair piled in a bun. She smiled brightly as she stood. “My apologies! I got caught up in paperwork. You must be Kalos.” She extended her hand as she approached. “I’m Lieutenant Commander Lofton, the ship’s counselor. But please, in here, call me Vanessa.” She waved a hand at the sofa. “Please, have a seat. I was going to have a hot chocolate; would you like anything?”

OOC: Hi Mason! I’m Nathan, and I play the ship’s counselor. We’ll definitely be able to help build that bio in this thread! We’re going to try and delve into Kalos’s background, maybe tease out some motivations and desires. I can’t wait to learn more about your character!

“Its not a problem at all,” Kalos said Shaking Vanessa’s hand. Eager to just get this over with Kalos entered the office and sat down: “So where do we begin.”

Vanessa cocked her head and then laughed. “Very Betazoid of you - direct and to the point. One hot chocolate,” she ordered from the food slot.

“This is a very informal session,” she continued as she joined Kalos on the sofa. “Just to get to know you. I can read your file all day - and I have - but I prefer to get to know our cadets personally. ” She sipped the cocoa and sighed as the warmth suffused through her chest. “That’s so good. So… start by telling me a little about yourself; tell me about your family?”

Why did that have to be her first question? was Kalos initial reaction, but he knew in advance that she would ask him about his family.
“Well I am looking forward to my work here on the Challenger. I used to be the head of space frame design on the new Far Star class development project and I really enjoyed a full scale engineering project. I was a dedicated student through school and with the recommendations of my father who was Starfleet, and my teachers, I ended up heading the design team. But that only lasted for three years; when I took the fall for one of the engineers under me after an accident, I was told that I was a safety risk and was removed from the project. I was devastated, but Jack, the kid I took the fall for was only eighteen. He was easily as talented as I am and this was his first engineering job. Plus he had gotten off to a hard start in life; having lost both his parents in a shuttle accident. He needed the work more than I did since I had someone back home to support me. Plus the six guys under me were like family. The Far Star was our ship as far as we were concerned, and I would do anything to protect both the project and my team.”
Grief washed over Kalos’s face as he paused. Taking a deep breath he continued telling Vanessa about himself.
“Shortly afterwards my father suggested that I apply to the service and serve aboard a starship as an engineer. Since my work with the Far Star development project was not under Starfleet jurisdiction they didn’t have any record of the incident. At first I was opposed to the idea, but slowly I came around and reluctantly agreed to join the service. However, now that I am here I am looking forward to working with Lt. Stadi.”
Kalos had been able to maintain eye contact with the counselor up until this point when the grief got the best of him. Looking away he covered his nose and mouth with his hand. When he started again it was obvious that he was fighting tears.
Still unable to make eye contact with the commander Kalos continued: “Dad fought in the dominion war at the battle of Betazed, but he was one of thousands who fell victim to the emotional strain of being able to feel so many people dying at once. About two years ago the PTSD caught up with him and…”
Kalos could no longer fight the tears: “I watched him slowly descend into madness. At first he was just more irritable than normal but then very suddenly things got bad. he was transferred to a mental health care facility, and his condition degraded to the point where he no longer knew me or the rest of the family. It ended up killing him before he got a chance to see me become an officer.”
Kalos looked up at Venessa finally, his eyes glistening.
“We had the funeral two weeks ago. But it I met one of the young ensigns dad was mentoring. Her name was Nerira, she was probably one of the kindest people I have ever met, because as a complete stranger, she saw that I needed help and gave me everything she had to offer.” As Kalos finished his story, the image of Nerira’s face as he beamed aboard the challenger flashed through his mind. They had become good friends in the last two weeks and Nerira had been worried that Kalos would have a hard time starting over aboard the challenger. In the Counselors eyes he thought he glimpsed the same concern, but he couldn’t be sure if it was just him.

OOC: As you can probably tell I have given a lot of thought towards Kalos’s character, but I dont know where to start on the bio.
