As an engineer, it was never a good sign when you heard a loud bang, or felt the deck rock under your feet. That was a statement that had Dael had seen proven right again and again. And it appeared like today was going to be another one of those days. One moment he had finished doing a routine check-in on the preventative maintenance team in Life Support systems. Then he felt what might’ve been a tremor in the plating under his feet. The next thing he felt was his feet leave the plating as a piece of the hull exposed the deck to the vacuum of space. The bright lights of warp travel filled the deck and he had to look away as he fought for a hand hold. He managed to grab onto, or more like stumble and slam across the bulkhead, into a door alcove as the brightness faded behind him and he felt the speed change as the ship cut warp power. He’d rather experience that as he usually did, a small shift in the deck floor, the thrum of the warp core changing beat. Instead he had depressurizing air filling his ears. Somewhat protected from the forceful pull in the alcove, he slammed his hand on the door’s opening console and the door slid open.

After what could have been him falling or pulling his wayt through the door. Dael hit the close button on the inside console and sagged heavily on the closed door, still hearing the air from behind it whip around as he took staggered breaths. He felt his communicator go off as he tried to refill his lungs.

=^=Bridge to Stadi, report. =^=

=^= I was about to ask you the same thing, Bridge.=^= he rasped back. =^= I don’t know what just happened, but I got a nice view of the weather outside. It’s freezing.=^= he added with cough, trying to make light of what just happened to try and make his brain cope.

He looked around and realized he was on the Battle Bridge. He staggered over to the ops console and on activating it saw the reports coming in from around the ship. Rings of Betazed this is bad.

=^= I’m on the Battle Bridge on Deck 8, I see our emergency force-fields aren’t cutting on to contain the breach on this deck. I’m doing what I can from here but there’s no Engineering console.=^= He stopped to try and organize his thoughts for a moment, and remembered the duty roster for today. =^= Cadet Onovren should be with you on the bridge. The structural integrity field may be having issues with whatever hit us, see if he can get some power to it. Hopefully it’s just that and not a damaged emitter issue.=^=

Now what can I do, he thought working with what the emergency Ops console could give him. The emergency force fields were holding in other locations where there was damage but not here, and the deuterium storage tanks were near the current breach. Not good. His fingers tapped rapidly across the console as he tried to pull up the status of the deflector array, hoping that would give him some insight to the issues and the emergency force field problems.

=^= Stadi, grab a team, prioritize the deuterium storage. Tell me what you need, we’ll get it to you. =^= Noting the tremor in the engineer’s voice, he added, =^= And Dael, be careful. =^=

Lt. jr. gr. Rodier - CoS (crosspost from Bridge)

=^=Always try to be, the universe always seems to have different plans.=^= he replied with a grin, regaining his composure a bit after his near exit of the ship. =^= As for a team, that’ll be difficult considering this deck is still venting to space. I’m seeing what I can do though and will let you know.=^=

Dael thought for a moment, trying to come up with a reason for the issues they were facing. He still wasn’t entirely sure what caused the hull breaches, but at this point, sealing them was the biggest priority. Especially the one on his deck that could not get any worse or the ship would be “dead in the water” as he’d heard his human team members say. He thought of emergency beaming his way back to a better position, maybe Engineering, but without knowing the cause of the destruction and if it was still a threat, he’d rather not take his chances scrambling his molecules at the moment. He was still trying to get information from the computer on the deflector grid when his Engineering Cadet’s call came in.

=^= Mr. Stadi, I have tried rerouting power around the damaged areas using the battle bridge command functions, since you are there, but found that the problem seems to not actually be a power distribution problem but with the computer programs that control the whole system, that could also explain why the emergency forcefields aren’t working either,=^= trying not to let the tension and emotions of everyone else overwhelm him, Kalos paused, =^= I expect that other ship systems will behave erratically until the computer function has been restored, but I don’t know if there is much else I can do from the bridge. what do you want me to do?=^=

OOC: I don’t have my tech manual handy at the moment so I wanted to check that I got my systems right, power distribution is the EPS grid right?

-Cadet Kalos Onovren, Engineer (crosspost from Bridge)

OOC: Correct, power distribution goes through the EPS systems, in the a similar way that electricity goes through wires and transformers

IC:
=^=Cadet, so you’re saying that power is getting to the area but the computer won’t register that it needs to cut the emergency forcefields on?=^= Dael said, wishing the Battle Bridge had an engineering console beyond Ops, and making a mental note to make that change once this was over. =^=Run a diagnostic on the the computer core and the subprocessors in the optical data network. Looking at the Ops console it looks like Deck 9 got hit, which could’ve damaged the lower computer core. If it did, it may be why these breaches aren’t being contained.=^=
