P’Mala Dawes entered the shuttle bay with one bulging valise, waiting for the shuttle that would take her briefly to Earth before her two-week leave and journey to her next appointment aboard the USS Europa as a doctor.
She’d made some new friends aboard the Challenger, especially Pilar Halcyone, the ship’s counselor, and her fellow Doctor, Johnathan Baptiste, who’d already moved on to the Ark Angel–but she left feeling rather fondly about everyone, especially NE Nurse Liu who worked in Sickbay full-time.
She noticed the small shipping crate with all her belongings being loaded onto the shuttlecraft, and figured it was her time to go.
Before she left, she gave one of the shuttle bay NCs a package containing a letter to Dr. Rahm and jewelled box, and a copy of her parents’ second book Religious Murmerations on Delta-Vega and Lethe, signed to Pilar’s husband, Savid.
“Can you get that to Dr. Rahm and have her read the letter first,” P’Mala asked.
NC Jo-Ood agreed.
P’mala took a breath and entered the shuttle bay–off to some strange new ship in a part of space she’d never even considered before.
