Previously on Star Trek: Challenger…After sustaining some damage that needed base repairs, the cadets are tasked with distributing basic supply requisitions. Could someone else do this? Of course! But some days starship duties require grunt work. In a bid to make things more interesting, a game of Truth or Dare happens and things go, well, very wrong…

In the blackened reflection, his eyes were colourless, void of their usual intensity. It felt apropos. Some days he felt colourless, bled dry of anything amounting to warmth and life. But he was still driven. There had to be a way. And it had taken a very long time to figure it out. Now that he had, well, there was no turning back, not if he could stop it from happening. Not if he could prevent himself from reliving it over and over and over again.
This had to work.
Turning the screen on, he set to work, following the protocols precisely as was described to him. He double and even triple checked the data. This time he would not miss anything.
A hand slipped over his shoulder, worry emanating as always. “Are you sure about this?” she whispered.
“I have to. It wasn’t supposed to be this way.”
A deep inhale was followed by an expelling of air. There was understanding in that sigh in a way that only someone with an equal amount of long-held pain could hear.
His hand hovered over the final key and for a moment he closed his eyes. As his lids slipped open, he nodded to himself and pressed the key. His part was now done. All he could hope was that the right people made the right choices before disaster struck yet again.
