He was definitely rattled Aaron noted, the message had definitely spooked him. Just another reason why he hated time travel.

“Lieutenant, you wanted to see me?” Aaron asked as he moved fully into the room, enough that the door would slide shut behind them. Just in case locking it again would help calm Rodier down.

Capt Foley - CO

Pilar moved out of the way and stood to the left of the Captain, then said to Rodier, “Lieutenant I have already told him what you told me.... to the best of my ability, but just so the Captain understands the urgency and in case I missed anything, you should tell him in your own words what happened. Also, be sure to emphasize your concern, so he can come to a reasonable conclusion.”
She gently placed her hand on his shoulder and said, “Would you like me to give you something to calm you before you start?”

Halcyone, Counselor

Henry moved slightly away from the door, allowing it to slide shut but not locking it. The Captain would simply unlock it when he desired to leave, Rodier knew, and even now he wasn’t distraught enough to try to trap his ship’s Captain anywhere.

He did shy away from the Counselor as she asked if he’d like any medication. “No, no! I don’t need that, that’s the last thing I need.” He moved to the desk chair and sat down heavily. “I’ve apparently caused enough in a steady state of mind.” He looked up to Foley, his glazed eyes clearing some. “Captain, I got a message from my future self warning me against… well, it could’ve been a lot clearer, but the gist was ‘don’t go to Jupiter Station if you want Sol to live’. And he - I - told me not to dig into the situation.”

~ Lt. Rodier - CoS

Aaron rocked back on his heels as he heard Henry say the message himself this time.

Pilar stood there, eyes wide wondering how the Captain was going to respond after considering everything Henry had said.

“That is quite the message. Not to mention leaving a lot of questions out there. If it was me, being told not to dig into something is going to make me want to look more…

“Did your future self give you any other information? Or perhaps mention if the message was meant for you not to step foot onto the station? Or for the Challenger not to come to the station?” He sort of hoped the former because it was a little to late otherwise.

Capt Foley - XO

These were good questions. Pilar had not thought to ask Lieutenant Rodier them herself. As for the response, she also hoped it was the former because otherwise a series of unexpected events was sure to follow if the message Henry received was correct.

Halcyone, Counselor

Henry dug into his pocket, a slight shake still in his hands - a feeling completely unknown to him. He shakily pulled out the piece of paper on which he’d scrawled what he could remember from the message, and read aloud. “Avoid Jupiter Station or so many in the Sol System will die and you’ll regret it the rest of your life. You can change this. For me, for you, for a lot of people. You’ve been warned.”

He finished and took a deep breath, an attempt at calming himself. His other hand reached for the water he always kept on his personal deck, startled to find nothing. He brought his hand back toward his body, eyes wide, and held it tight against himself.

Pilar formed her mouth to speak but she stopped, thought for a moment, then continued with what she wanted to say, “Captain, it seems that we should not allow Lieutenant Rodier to go aboard the Jupiter Station. Perhaps it’s best he stay here on the Challenger.” It seemed too simple to be the right solution but according to what Henry said, the issue was more likely to occur if he went aboard the Jupiter station.

Halcyone, Counselor

Aaron nodded as he walked over to the replicator. “Glass of water,” he said. Picking up the glass that materialized, he walked back and placed it in front of Rodier. He looked like he could use a stiffer drink, but this would have to do for now.

“Agreed. Though I worry that the message might already be to late, and it meant that we should have stayed away completely.

“Lieutenant. Henry, do you remember anything else about the message? Anything about what was in the background, or anything that would give you an idea of how far into the future the message came from?”

Capt Foley - CO

Henry unsteadily reached forward, bringing the water to his lips. Some dribbled down one side of his face, but what made it down his throat seemed to have a calming effect. His hand continued to shake as he set the water down, though less so.

Finally able to focus somewhat, he looked thoughtfully up to the Captain. “There… there wasn’t much in the background. His… my.... no,” he shook his head slightly. That wasn’t him, it was what Henry could be if he didn’t change things. “His hair was peppered, which takes quite a while in my family. And the eyes… I got the feeling he’d been trying to fix whatever happened for a long time.”

~ Lt. Rodier - CoS

Pilar wondered if it would be wise to consult the staff on the Jupiter Station about Henry’s premonition, especially Commander Greene. Way out here in space, he may have dealt with stranger situations. She spoke up, “Captain, permission to reach out to our colleagues on the Jupiter Station for some advice, such as what on the station has the potential to wipe out a whole star system.”

Halcyone, Counselor

Aaron thought a moment before nodding. “Keep it discreet Commander. I don’t want us to get wrapped up in a temporal investigation.”

Grabbing a chair, he pulled it over so he could sit down at the desk opposite of Henry. Aaron didn’t really want to push him to far, as distraught as he was there was no telling what might happen if he pushed to hard. But there was also information that he needed to know if he was going to make sure that the Challenger got through this.

“I know this will be tough, but I need you to talk me through what exactly happened again. There might be a detail you didn’t think of before that might be the key to us getting through this in one piece.

“So when you are ready, I want you to take a couple of deep breaths. Breathe in for 10 seconds, hold it for 10 seconds, and then breathe out for 10 seconds. Close your eyes, and use the steady rhythm of your breathing help calm your mind.”

Aaron had seen more then enough panicked cadets during his time that he had picked up a few tricks when it came to helping to calm them.

Capt Foley - CO

In a response quite unknown to Henry and to any who knew him, he snapped, “I train breathing exercises into people, Foley. I know.” He had felt almost patronized, but quickly realized that was not the case. A hazy look crossed his face, his eyes briefly glazing over. “I… sorry, sir.” He began to breathe in and out, steadily, a bit raggedly, but it helped.

Aaron wasn’t going to hold the outburst against him, this time. He knew this wouldn’t be easy to the best of them.

Opening his eyes again, Rodier finally responded. “I’ve gone through everything I can think of - nothing. Truly, I can’t fathom any solution other than my avoiding the station entirely. But… I just wish there were some way to know why. And what’s to say I won’t do something else in the future? What’s so special about now, here?”

~ Henry Rodier - CoS

“That’s what we need to figure out. And it does complicate things that you were told that you shouldn’t dig into it either. And we aren’t exactly in a position to leave Jupiter Station any earlier. We still need the refit, and Command is going to want to know more then just that someone from the future said we had to leave.

“Did you have any specific plans while we were here at the Station? Or perhaps something in the very near future?”

Aaron was running out of ideas on what else they could even try. The last thing he wanted to do was to have Henry just cool his heels on the Challenger for however long they were at the station.

Capt Foley - CO

“I… I suppose so. I was planning on checking out the refit with the ship’s security chief, I heard there was a new phaser beam pulse combination that could have some tactical implications.” His eyes lit up. “Do… do you think that’s it? Only other things I had planned were maybe dropping by Earth to visit family.”

~ Henry Rodier - CoS

Aaron thought about it for a moment. “Not likely. Even if the tech was something so secret that we didn’t want people to know about it, we are pretty deep within Federation territory to worry about external threats here. And I don’t think your trip back to Earth would be the cause either. Or your future self would have warned you not to leave the ship.”

“How much do you think we can push the idea of not digging into the matter?”

Capt Foley - CO

“I’d prefer not to push it at all, sir. You and the ship can go about your business, though. I didn’t hear anything about that. I just don’t know what to do with myself until then.”
