“The communication we are getting from them seems to be spotty. Why is that? I am afraid we will eventually lose all communication. I also wonder if they are also having the same issue. If so they might not be able to follow your instructions.”

“Radiation,” Russo said simply, focusing on his readouts and waiting for a response from Brecker.

“Pilar, thank the Prophets. And I see you brought N’Chellet and Riddell!”
Pilar smiled and nodded. She figured that Dr. Rahm wanted her medical cadets nearby. If not anything she took her as a person who liked to be prepared much like her own self.

Now that Vesta knew that Cadets Brecker and Black were doing their best and that Commander Halcyone had backup nearby, she could finally breathe for a minute and access the situation.

“NE N’Challet, prepare the hyposprays, please,” she said to one of the medical staff who entered with Pilar.

“Does the Station have automatic medical-grade force fields in the corridors in case of breach, Mr. Russo?”

“Naturally, “Cameron said, still not even looking up. He wasn’t being rude- he just didn’t want to miss anything.

From a medical standpoint, precaution was the next obvious step–though the real risk was still staring them in the face.

“Lieutenant Russo,” Pilar said “What were they working on in the lab? Why would it shut down and go into lockdown as it has?”

Halcyone, Counselor

At this question, Cameron swivelled in her direction. “Doctor Greene is using an experimental system to study the effects of subspace on organic matter. The chamber he uses seems to be compromised. Given that it is highly maintained, this should not be happening. But in an emergency, his lab goes into lockdown to prevent a disaster on the rest of the station. It’s unfortunate that anyone was inside, but the alternatives are not something we want to consider. We’re working on a solution from the inside to shut everything down safely. “

Dar frowned. “I call horse crap on the experiment sir. You mean to tell me that with already a couple hundred years of space travel and flight, that someone as esteemed as Dr. Greene is now working on an experiment dealing with subspace and organic matter?”

“Why would time factor in? There’s always something new to learn and you don’t get to decide what is and isn’t useful research. His research is specific and I can’t say any more,” Russo said, tamping down on his irritation.

Unfortunate, yes. she thought, Unfortunate, my Cadets are trapped in there. None of this was supposed to happen. We were just supposed to make a quick stop here and be on our way. She nodded then said, “So the lock down is a fail-safe. What if they cannot shut everything down safely. Will there be no hope for those trapped inside? I am not leaving without my Cadets and I intend for them to be alive when we do depart this Station.”
She placed her hand on the door way and studied it. “Can we not beam them out or someone in? There must be an alternative way in or out. I do not think Dr. Greene would not have prepared for something like to happen.”

Halcyone, XO

“I do not think so Commander. Dr. Greene is a medical doctor and most likely got tunnel visioned on his project to think of outlaying scenarios other than the standard ones in place.” Turning to Russo. “The XO does have a good point though. Why can’t we beam someone out? That would be great. We beam people all of the time through radiation going from the ship to ta planets surface. So why is this a problem here and now Mr. Russo?”

Lt. Commander Sorazo Dar, CNS

“No, you don’t. Not this kind and not in this situation.” The COO gestured with an arm. “Unless you want to beam a person out without necessary body parts, I wouldn’t advise it.”

The com buzzed with static as the connection is restablished for a moment. Over the com came Cadet Brecker’s voice steely calm, though edged with a deep tension. =^=This is Cadet [bzzzzt]… two elements but… … … the apparatus something has seemed… [pssssbt] crossed a few wires… the … sides..... ...... ...... issue especially if one.... boost the shields, [sssssssss] anomaly chamber… ..... … .... .....=^= There are words that pushed through the static, but the strength of the interreference and static made them unintelligible.

The communication from Cadet Brecker was not clear but Pilar knew they were having trouble getting through the fail-safes of the lab. “Does the specifications for the station have the layout of the lab? If so might help us find an alternate way in and out.”

Halcyone, XO

“No,” Russo said. “But I know them because I’ve worked on the systems. And we have to force-trip a backup fail safe and hope it doesn’t backfire.”

He held up a hand for quiet, parsing Brecker’s message. Cameron closed his eyes and his hands moved as if he was visualizing what the cadet might have bene saying. He sighed, shook his head, and opened his eyes. =/\=Brecker…=/\= He paused, knowing the simpler the message, the more likely it would get through intact. =/\=Cut power to left side. I repeat. Cut left side.=/\=

And now they just had to wait and see. He looked to the CMO. “If this works doc, there will be a surge in radiation and the protective field will come down. I can’t guarantee their status won’t be worse, but they will be alive. Good thing you brought backup, but they Infirmary will be on standby also.”

~Mischief Maker

Vesta paced a thin line across the hallway.

“Good. I don’t know what else we can do but be prepared for transportation if necessary,” she said. “N’Challet, inoculate the other NEs and I’ll take care of senior staff.”

Vesta gathered several prepared hyposprays from the NC and injected herself with the combination of hyronalin and lectrazine.

“Mr. Russo? Counselor? Commander Halcyone? I do hope this is an unnecessary precaution, but…” she said, trailing off.
