After spending time in his quarters unpacking into the much larger room and even adding a few personal touches, Demil made the short trip over to sickbay for his normal boarding checkup. Demil had never liked going to the doctors’ for things, but he usually liked the doctors themselves and it balanced out. He approached NE Nurse Marva and added his name to the list of patients waiting to be seen, then sat against the wall and pulled out a PADD, opening up the book he’d been reading on the shuttle. Hopefully this visit would be one of the better ones, he thought as he began to read, tucked away in the corner of sickbay.

Sickbay thrummed busy with activity. NEs buzzed from one section to another as the duty shift was in full swing. NE Nurse Marva added and removed names from her list, passing patients on to triage as available.

The CMO, Dr. Rahm Vesta’s, office to the side of Sickbay suddenly erupted with a cacophony of yowls and clattering bangs and yelps, then a harried Catian NE scurried out with a blue wrap on her upper forearm and her hair puffed up with stress.

The Catian stormed out of Sickbay with a dour look on her face.

Demil stepped out of the way of the NE as she stormed out, barely avoiding being run into.

“Lieutenant Lis?” A voice called from the office. It sounded a little tired but cheerful. “I’m ready for you!”

Inside, the office was paneled in Bajoran sandalwood and had a large wood desk floating in the middle of the space. A woven mat covered the floor. Mementos from a lifetime of travels were displayed on side tables and on shelves and the desk. It was almost like the CMO had ripped her home office from her villa on Bajor and copied it into the Challenger, except for the attached exam room.

Vesta sat behind the desk, her hair slightly askew. She peered at the door inquisitively.

Demil walked into the room and silently looked around, noting everything. He held his posture extremely tense, standing practically at attention as he faced the doctor. He waited for her to address him, standing awkwardly by the desk.

Dr. Rahm peered from her PADD. She’d just been reading about the Lieutenant’s medical history in preparation for their appointment after a slightly disastrous treatment with a Catian Ensign, but nothing she hadn’t handled before.

The incoming Lieutenant was standing in the door quite rigidly.

“At ease, Lieutenant. You don’t have to kow-tow like that around me,” Vesta laughed, standing to greet the Trill. “Welcome to our Sickbay. It’s nice to have a new CSO on board the Challenger. I’m Rahm Vesta, the Chief Medical Officer, and since you have some allergies and care needs, I’ll be paying extra attention to your care.”
