Demil stepped off the shuttle onto the deck of the Challenger, taking in the new ship. His uniform, hair, and posture were all as impeccable as the day he had first left the Academy. He smiled slightly to himself - he had never expected to wind up back here so soon. He could still reasonably be mistaken for a cadet himself, but here he was, briskly on his way up to the bridge to meet his new captain. As the turbolift doors opened and he walked out, he greeted the officers nearby politely but kindly, significantly more personable than he had been as a green ensign.
“Good morning, sir,” he addressed Captain Foley as he walked down to stand in front of his superior, “I’m Lt. Demil Lis. I was just reassigned to be your new Chief Science Officer, and just arrived on board. I’m pleased to meet you.”
Demil smiled, slightly shy and nervous now that he was standing in front of the CO, and absentmindedly brushed a lock of hair that had started creeping down his forehead back with his hand.Lt. Demil Lis
Incoming CSOPilar looked at the Captain then the new CSO. She stepped in front of the new officer then “Welcome aboard. I have your transfer orders from the Ark Angel. The XO there has told me you are a fine officer. Why don’t you follow me and we can start your briefing.” she said as she motioned for him to follow her.
Halcyone, XO
Aaron glanced over at Pilar and nodded his thanks. He was focused on their current operation and didn’t have time for the distraction. He would meet up with the new Lieutenant after this was complete.
Capt Foley - CO
“Thank you, Ma’am,” Demil said, following behind Pilar and folding his hands in front of him. “Are there any duties you’d like me to start on?”Lt. Demil Lis
CSO“Yes but first we should get through our briefing. Tell me about your time on the Ark Angel,” she said as she led him to a conference room.
Halcyone, XO
“I was assigned to the Ark Angel out of the Academy and was a junior science officer, under Lt. Belmont for most of my time there. Shortly after she left, under Lt. Azon, I was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade and put in charge of genetics research. Not too long after that, I was transferred here,” Demil said. “It took me most of my time on the Ark Angel to get enough confidence to pursue higher responsibility positions, but I’m here now!” The young trill lieutenant smiled, pausing by the door of the conference room to allow her entry first.

CSO“Yes, you are.” She said with a smile as she walked into the conference room and took a seat in one of the chairs. ” The XO on that ship gave you a wonderful review and highly recommended you for the CSO position on the Challenger. Let me ask you a question. Why did you lack the initial confidence to move up the chain?”

Demil sat opposite the XO. “I skipped a couple grades all the way back in elementary school, and have felt like I have to be the best at what I do since, in order to keep pace with my peers. People didn’t often take me seriously, although that dropped off somewhat as I got older. Regardless, I wasn’t ready to go up even more for a while, and it took a couple very good leaders to encourage me otherwise.”

Pilar nodded. “You will be running the science department. However this job is more than just running a department, you will be shaping the future of Starfleet. The Challenger is the first step for new hopeful Starfleet officers. It’s highly important you keep the busy and engaged. Just like those good leaders encouraged you, now that task falls on you. You must encourage the incoming cadets and make sure they are excelling. Do you have any questions for me?”
