“Aye.” Henry turned to NE Kyos, snapping his fingers and indicating for her to move to the secondary ops station. She immediately started working to get ahold of the Jupiter Station feeds, with Rodier’s credentials assisting her.

But for some reason, the request did not go through. His credentials failed.

Henry frowned. “Try it again,” he said. “Computer, why was our access denied?”

“Unknown. Credentials not recognized.”

Aaron was nervously tapping his foot as he waited for the view from the station to come up. He hated this waiting game, but there was only so much he could do. He had the right people in the right places, and he had to trust them to do their jobs.

His ears perked up slightly as he heard Henry. “Problem Lieutenant?”

It had been a week since Ang had barged in on the Captain to complain about the lack of leadership in Engineering, only to find she was the one who had been left in charge. Since then, she had shifted from Third Shift Supervisor to Chief Engineer on First Shift. Now, she entered the bridge and moved to the engineering console. Seeing the stats all in green, she took a breath and turned to the Captain as he asked one of the Lieutenants if they had a problem. Not aware what had transpired, she frowned slightly wondering what, or who, had managed to raise the hackles on the CO this time.

Aaron nodded towards Ang as he reached over and tapped the comm channel at his chair.

=^= We hear you Commander. What updates do you have for us? =^=

Ang remained at her post. Despite her outbreak when she was promoted, or perhaps because of it, she had sort of assumed a self protective role over the Captain. She had been quick to squelch and qualms or complaints she heard about him, and was quick to champion him to anyone who doubted his motives or drive. Hearing him respond to the XO, she could only guess more had happened in her last two hours of maintenance updates than she realized. She made a mental note to be more accessible and on the bridge more often.

=^=Yes a quick update. Currently, the situation for the cadets has not improved. However, Lieutenant Russo is working through various solutions to release the occupants of the lab. Dr. Rahm is on standby for medical care after we do get them out. Lieutenant Commander Sozano is ready to provide moral and mental support. =^= She looked back and lowered her voice, =^=Commander I think we should hope for the best but…prepare for the worst. In any case, I do believe that we will be successful in getting our cadets back to the Challenger safely. Afterward, I think it should be mandatory they each have a visit with the Counselor to assess the impact this situation has had on their minds.=^=

A few moments later, Jupiter Station’s status shifted and they a message came through from Operations indicating that the emergency was over.

Those on the bridge could hear Pilars reaction to the door opening. “My goodness! Glory be to the stars! The door has opened! They are free!”
=^=Captain I am happy to report that everyone looks well. Dr. Rahm has set up triage to evaluate everyone, however I am sure everyone will live.=^=

=^= That’s great news Commander. =^= Aaron said with a sigh of relief. He hadn’t even realized he had been so tense.

=^= Help the Station crew get cleaned up and let’s get all of our people back to the Challenger. Pass along my congratulations to the team there on a job well done. =^=

Aaron settled back into his chair as he could finally relax. They had made it. Hopefully next time he wouldn’t be stuck just sitting around waiting.

As the excitement died down, Henry walked slowly over to the Captain, leaving behind a confused NE Kyos. “Captain… I’m no longer in the system. How…?”

Aaron leaned back in his chair and looked over at Henry.

“On the Challenger? Or when you were trying to get into Jupiter Station?” he asked in a lowered voice. No reason to potentially alarm any of the crew.

Unaware of the whispered conversation, Ang, turned to the CO, “Permission to leave the bridge, Sir. They’ll be needing me in Engineering.” She had learned her lesson that day in the mess hall. She wasn’t going to let herself be seen as an imbecilic again… at least, not in front of Cadets.

“Go ahead Lieutenant. Make sure nothing that they were doing over on Jupiter Station effected anything here on the Challenger.” Aaron said nodding towards Ang. She’ll be a confident department head soon enough, she just needed time to get used to the new order of things and it’ll be good. Because if nothing else, she was a good engineer.
