As the ruction and row began between Bennet and Osten, all heck broke lose. Some how through all the sedation, Richard’s eyes sprang wide open, whites having turned black with infection. Leaping forward the man grabbed at Torrirs and sunk his teeth deep into her skin where the shoulder meets the neck

“A plague a’ your house!” He cried, having apparently read his Shakespeare that morning, before he charged towards the door of sick bay and the rest of the ship, arms flailing like a mad man as he ran.

“Oh!” Torrirs screeched, flinging the scalpel to the ground. Brushing their fingers along the nape of their neck, they met warmth. Blood. It burned. There was no time to panic, the cadet was already on the move.

“Richards!” They reached out, but they weren’t quick enough. “Harkness! Bennett–! Someone grab him!” They were among those closest to the door, and Torrirs prayed one of them heard their call.

Dr. Torrirs, CMO

“Shoot!” Max said as he ran after Richards.

=^= This is Commander Harkness. Seal off the deck 6. I need a containment team, NE Richards has escaped our isolation. =^=

“Richards, come back! We need to help you.”

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

As Richards bolted out the door, followed by the XO and several members of the Medical team, Korczak kept his eye on Osten. Shaking his head, his arms crossed across his chest and an air about him as if the chaos surrounding the immediate vicinity swept past him as a soft breeze in springtime, he said simply “Back on the bed, Cadet. It would be unbecoming for both of us if I had to make you.” There was a subtle shift in his demeanor, a look in his eyes that seemed out of place on the plain little man’s average face. A look that seemed almost… dangerous. “Now, Cadet. That’s an order.”

Korczak, CNS

OOC: Think Nijix has hit her limit with this, lol. Since everyone’s assuming Richards escaped and I didn’t have a chance to react with my character, this makes my reply easier at least. Apologies for her reaction.

IC: Nijix had been about to answer Commander Harkness when Richard attacked Torrirs then broke into a run for the door. On impulse, her eyes jerked to her discarded weapon. It was still where she put it and untouched. She rushed for it then double-checked it was on the stunning setting.

As the others rushed out the door, she followed.

“Stay clear,’ Nijix barked as she shifted to the front of the group.

She couldn’t allow him to contaminate the whole ship and there was only one way to bring him down quickly. Action first, forgiveness later.

Her hand pulled up her weapon and aimed for the man’s back before he darted out of her range. A thumb pushed the button sending a shot at her target, unsure if it would hit or not. With her skills in shooting, she should manage not hit any innocent bystander even if she missed.

For additional precaution, she had begun to order Security teams to begin clearing and blocking hallways from the sickbay. If they spotted Richards, they had orders to stun him and detain anyone he came into direct contact with. Under no conditions were they allowed to make direct contact with him.

-Lt. Nijix Tavium, CoS

Wiles was surprised that counselor Korczak did not seem distracted by the sudden commotion around them. Nijix had run off to catch the escaping cadet, so Wiles was no longer guarded. With a twinkle in his eye, Osten did back up until his knees hit the bed, but he proceeded to vault over it and frantically scan the room for any of the phasers they had brought back with them that still needed to be decontaminated. If Osten could spot one, he’d scramble to run across the room and grab it, spinning to point it threateningly at anyone who might approach.

(Wiles Osten, Security Cadet)

Korczak for his part simply looked at a finger nail and appeared to clear a bit of something from it with his thumb. “There are weapons a plenty around, Cadet. But that thing was powered off during transport. Standard protocol, as you should know. But I hope that somehow you can see fit to take a seat.” he said, nonplussed by the Cadet’s behavior. Seeing that he was still in the throws of the contagion, Korczak was hesitant to resort to physical force. But he did look at two of the Medical NE’s and motion them to cut off Osten’s escape avenue. He looked Osten in the eyes and said very firmly “Wiles. Focus. Use your training. Concentrate. What you are feeling is due to your exposure to the infection. LIsten to me, Cadet. You have to beat this long enough to get on the bed. Listen to me, focus, and try to concentrate.” and his crossed arms dropped and he crossed his arms behind his back. “Get. On. The. Bed.”

Korczak, CNS

Lillian Had only just stepped out of there sonic shower when the alert came through about a containment breach from sickbay. Lillian grabbed a clean uniform and put it on fast and ran out of her Quarters it was a short run to the turbo lift and then out on to deck 6 she still had here rifle from the mission as she had not been back past the armoury as she wanted to eat shower before reporting for duty.
Lillian took up a position at the turbolift to stop Richards escaping the deck and infecting the whole ship.

It was then the lift open.
“Quarantine Zone ” Lillian said as she turned around to discover a security detail exiting the lift.
Lt Moore step out in front of the group he addressed Lillian
“Cadet you move fast, never mind James stay here and guard the lift with the cadet the rest with me” Moore moved off with the other ensigns to look for the escaped ensign.
Ensign James moved to the other side of the lift and locked off the controls.

” Right so now we wait” Lillian stood and watched all the corridor direction the her right and she was on the right side of the lift doors and James was going to watch the left this all went with out saying as this was standard procedure.
weapons at the ready as no one was leaving this deck with out being checked first there was no way this ship was becoming like that Ghost ship she had just come back from.

Tavium’s shot missed, causing the NE to escape into the hallway, but such is life at times. Thankfully Harkness’ order to seal the deck had gotten through in plenty of time to stop the infected from actually leaving deck six. Recapping for the absentminded or confused:

Osten was being the crazed infected man he was.
Harkness, Anderson, and Tavium were charging after NE Richards with the rest of security.
Bennett and Korczak were having a heated discussion about her behavior.
Torrirs was bleeding from a neck bite.

GM Wombat

Richards seemed to feel the shot fly past him, barely missing and leaving a feeling like pins and needles coursing through him. Turning the corner he began to run faster, the taste of blood on his lips and everything seeming to move in and out of focus, light changing to shadow and shadow to light before him.

He passed the surgical suites, the sound of footsteps behind him sounding far away but he didn’t stop. He was running in one direction, one thought in his mind as the Impulse Reactor room got closer.

NE Richards, Medical

Wiles paused and narrowed his eyes at Korczak. He looked down at the phaser in his hand, considering it. Wiles did not notice the medical cadets creeping up on him from behind as he hesitated. Reasoning through the fact that Korczak was wrong about the weapon being deactivated allowed a sliver of clarify to flash across the frantically racing mind of Cadet Osten. His eyes widened as he stared at the weapon in his hand and realized it aimed towards the counselor.

Slowly, Wiles turned the phaser around to point directly at his own chest, pressing the tip into his sternum. His jaw was set, his expression conveying an odd mix of rage and desperation. Wiles huffed through his nose multiple times, as if a bull about to charge and a skydiver about to jump all at once. “I’m doing what I can,” Wiles breathed as his confused gaze met Korczak’s.

(Wiles Osten, Security Cadet)

Ooc: Nice post!

Dave

Nijix cursed under her breath when her shot missed. She had considered taking another shot, but she spotted the others. They too were trying to stop Richards. Not wanting to risk them taking a stray hit, she decided to consider her options. Her mind wandered to Cadet Anderson’s whereabouts.

=^= Tavium to Anderson, what’s your location?=^= Nijix asked when she pressed her badge comm.

While she tried to communicate, her feet took off and tried to gain the distance she had lost.

-Lt. Nijix Tavium, CoS

Lillian was standing waiting for any sign of the escaped ensign. when her com-badge tweeted at here.
=^= Tavium to Anderson, what’s your location?=^=
Lillian Taps her badge
=^= Anderson here, I am at the main Turbolift with Ensign James Lt Moore and 2 other Ensigns are on this deck looking for the Ensign Richards. we have locked of the controls at this end. Sir =^=
Lillian waited for a reply.

Lillian Anderson Security Cadet

Max was trying his best to keep up with Richards. He was totally going to have to get back into running again, he had spent to much time on the weights and it was definitely showing in his endurance. Thank goodness the ship wasn’t that big, otherwise Richards was easily going to out pace him.

He caught sight of Richards as he turned a corner and he quickly followed suit. What was ahead, what was ahead, he thought as he followed behind Richards. Shoot.

=^= Nijix, this is Harkness. He’s heading for impulse control. Get a team there ASAP. =^=

They came to a straight run and Max cranked up the speed. “Richards, we can help you. Everything is going to be okay.”

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

As she heard Anderson relay her location, Nijix mentally mapped out the situation. The impulse controls were in the same hallway as the turbo lift. This put Anderson and the group in the perfect position to intercept the target.

With the XO and others chasing him, they could herd the man into the other group.

=^= Tavium to Harkness, I have an idea.=^=Nijix replied then contacted Anderson again.

=^=Anderson, Richards is heading to the impulse controls in the reactors. He can not get in there. You and Moore’s group need to intercept him. Can you do that?=^=

During the whole conversation, she was hot on Richards tail along with the others. Unlike the XO, she did do a lot of long-distance running and could keep this up for longer periods of time. It didn’t mean she would be able to catch up any time soon.

-Lt. Nijix Tavium, CoS

=^= Well think fast, because we are quickly running out of time. =^=

Hopefully she had someone that was a lot closer. Because the last thing they needed was for him to get into the control room and lock them out. Because who knows what he would do before they broke through the door.

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

Lillian was standing on guard when the next message came in.
=^=Anderson, Richards is heading to the impulse controls in the reactors. He can not get in there. You and Moore’s group need to intercept him. Can you do that?=^=
=^= Understood Sir, James and i will approach from this position and and Moore can circle around and we can trap him before he gets to the controls.=^=
Lillian looked over to James.
“we should get to the controls and stop him” Lillian gestured for him to take point as she started moving to ward to control room.
“If he gets anywhere near you stun him you don’t want to get what he has” Lillian was sure she could hear Richards running some where down the Corridor.

Lillian Anderson Security Cadet

OOC: I am still reading the thread, just waiting for a need for me to intercede. If you want to split the thread into the chase for Richards and then one for what is happening with the bitten CMO that might be easier to track.

GM Wombat.

OOC: Splitting off to a new thread.
IC:
Coming around the corner Max stopped, he had lost sight of Richards. He was still pretty positive that he was headed for the control room, but now they had to go on that hunch.

=^= Harkness to Tavium. I’ve lost him Lieutenant. Do you have eyes on Richards? =^=

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

Richards could still hear the pursuit behind him, his ears seeming to be able to pinpoint each footfall and even the controlled breathing of the Trill Chief of Security behind him. The corridor seemed to distort before his eyes and he stumbled, put his hand out to steady himself but the wall was further away than he thought. He could feel moisture pouring from him, an itch on his skin that sunk deeper into him. A bag slapped against his thigh and as he moved, his hand slipped into it and felt something round and hard against his skin. He couldn’t remember what it was, something you pressed against your skin, perhaps.

He could taste something metallic in his mouth, and he spat. Spots of blood coating the wall where he passed. Ahead of him he heard the sound of a metal door sliding open, footsteps. He could smell, something. Cologne? It was sweet.

Richards began to move faster, crouching, almost silent even as he ran. The sound of footsteps from more than one person around the corner, soft breathing of someone. Maybe it was his own breathing. He sprinted around the corner, vision blurred by sweat and fever. Two figures where in his way, figures he didn’t recognise and beyond them a door. He ran hard into the lead figure, a man, and the two crumpled to the floor, Richards arms and legs flailing for a foothold. He tasted blood again, and looked up at the second figure. Footsteps closer behind him, a figure in front of him, his skin itching and irritating.

He lunged at the figure standing before him, not sure just how far away it really was, in his hand a hypospray pulled from the bag, the metallic taste stronger on his tongue.

NE Richards
