Snip-sation.
“Agreed, Sir. And I also agree with you it could be some type of listening device. However based on the components of it, I highly doubt it’s an explosive. A lot of the chemicals neutralize each other and actually act as an energy source. This is why I believe it to be some type of battery or fuel cell.”

Lieut. Almikaz (CSO)

“Maybe we should put into an isolation field, see what happens?” Gordon suggested.

-Gordon, CE

“I am going to suggest we not do that at the moment.,” Surra said to the chief engineer, “I would like to run more tests on it.”

Lieut. Almikaz (CSO)

The NE scientists all stand around looking at Almikaz waiting further instructions on what tests, exactly, the DH wants run.

GM

Surra looked at everyone in the room, “So since I believe the object to be some type of energy generator, we can start testing using a programmable electronic load which we will feed into it via circuit. It’s a large object, we need a strong energy source and I would like to use that computer.” She pointed to the computer in the science lab as she continued, “We will run a wireless circuit from it and to the object, which will put it under load to determine its energy efficiency and probable lifespan. I need someone to analyze the discharge curves which will represent the performance characteristics of the energy source under the conditions defined by the programmable load I will enter into the computer. Observing these curves will allow us to measure the objects lifespan and compute the its efficiency. We should also be able to determine if it is, in fact, a deadly bomb, as well. I will not lie, this could be dangerous, so I think it would be a good idea to have sickbay on call. And anyone who wants to leave should do so now.

Lieut. Almikaz (CSO)

OOC: Gamemaster let me know if there are other tests you want the CSO to run on the object. - Mika

OOC: Not my place to tell you what to do! You are the investigators, I just give you the breadcrumbs to follow.

IC: The ensigns and cadets look around at each other and then back to the CSO. One particularly brave cadet wagers with the woman, “Um, ma’am. We don’t want to question your judgement or anything but, there really isn’t a good place to connect some electrodes. Do you want us to just clip it to the case?”

GM Wombat

OOC: GM, Just trying to get a clue to determine if we are on the right track.

IC: Surra was annoyed because the cadet’s question implied he had not listened to what she said, “You may question anything you want and as much as you like, just so long as you are respectful. And you are. But you did not listen to what I had proposed.” said Surra. “We will not be connecting or attaching anything to the device physically. As I said, I will be transmitting a wireless circuit, or an electromagnetic power transfer, no connectors required. If the devices is giving off a significant amount of energy we should pick it up on the computer, which will act as our receiver. In any case this is still dangerous therfore I will be doing the transference.” She looked around the room and said, “I need everyone in here in protective gear and then standby for further orders.

Lieut. Almikaz (CSO)

“Um Lieutenant,” Max said standing up from where he was leaning against the console, and moving closer to where Surra was standing. He lowered his voice, “The container is in the cargo bay, not here in the science lab. I doubt that anyone here would need to be in protective gear. Otherwise the whole ship would need to be in protective gear, and I don’t think the Captain is going to go for that.”

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

Surra looked at him with a glare and she said back to him in the lowest voice she could manage to ensure the others did not hear out of respect for the man. “Commander. I am aware where the device is and I cannot run tests on it in the cargo bay. The equipment I need is here, in this lab. It will certainly need to be moved here for the testing I proposed. You want me to find out what we are dealing with and I will. This is a start. By the way… I agree it is ridiculous to have everyone on the ship in protective gear, Sir. However, all my science personnel and anyone else in this lab will need to be in protective gear when we commence testing.”

Then she looked at everyone else in the room, she clearly had a frown on her face as she said in a much higher but calm tone, “I know it’s been a while since you all have had a head science officer and I am not sure if you all think I am not capable, for whatever reason of your choosing, of running the department. But I assure all you I am. As the head scientist on this ship, if I fail to uncover what the object is or its purpose then we all fail. In that case, I want to give everyone a chance to speak. If you have any better ideas, please let me know, I will hear them, and I will acknowledge those I deem sufficient, from my experience, or I will tell you why your idea suck. Otherwise as the head of the science department, I was chosen for a reason, and I expect everyone to allow me to do my job.”

Lieut. Almikaz (CSO)

The cadet nods and taps in a few keys on a panel, confirming the settings that Almikaz specifies. After a moment the brave little cadet turns his head and nods, “As you wish, Ma’am. We are ready to commence the load testing on your command.” He glances to the XO then back to the CSO, “There are still some people in the bay however. Should we notify Medical and Security?”

GM Wombat

“Yes cadet please notify security and medical but hold off on the testing. I will give the order” said Surra. She turned to face the XO.

Max raised his eyebrow. “Then Lieutenant, if you insist on conducting these potentially dangerous experiments in a science lab, you will have to use a different lab. As you have stated that this is a potentially dangerous test, and with our proximity to the bridge with this lab, I cannot allow you to conduct the experiments in this lab. Please choose a more appropriate lab for your testing, and inform us of what you find after your experiments.”

Surra crossed her arms as she watched him walk out of the lab.

Without waiting any longer Max turned on his heel and walked out of the lab. If she wanted to play hardball, he was more then capable of playing right back.

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

Gordon watched the exchange between the two officers, trying not to show his amusement. After the XO left he turned to the new science officer.

“Want me to help tune the environmental systems and force fields around the new lab?” He asked the science officer, trying to hide a smile.

-Gordon, CE

“No.” said Surra as she focused on the computer in front of her, “We are not be switching labs. All the labs on this ship are in similar proximity to the bridge and any other place of importance on this ship. It does not make sense to switch labs just because he said so! Also science labs are equipped for such experiments. I will deal with the repercussions of disobeying his…his order later. One thing I will not tolerate is intimidation. Not from anyone. He is not going to tell me how and where to do my job. He hightailed it out of here, so I will proceed as I like.” She stood up straight and looked around the room. “Now…Its not fair to suggest or ask that any of you stay because I am about to blatantly disobey an order. However your presence would be in the best interest of the ship since you are of the few who can help administer and monitor this experiment. So now it is my obligation to release all my science officers and anyone else who does not want to participate. You may leave. Now. This will not be held against you in anyway. I understand your decision. Anyone who wishes to stay, I will esure you are not held accountable. I will take fully responsibility. I have been in trouble for much worse.” She said cooly. She looked at the engineer seriously at first but then she thought she saw a smirk and it made her want to burst out laughing. She sniffed back a snicker and tried to contained it as best she could while she spoke to him. “Lieutenant. You may stay if you like, to set up the force field or you may choose to leave with the rest. If you choose to leave at least show me how to set up the force field and program the environmental systems.”

Lieut. Almikaz (CSO)

Most of the science team look a little befuddled at the tirade that the CSO goes on but eventually they decide that it is in their best interest for them to stay where they are at with her, rather than head out on their own. They continue to set up their calculations and load balancing getting ready to execute the tests on their end, once she comes to an agreement with the engineer, of course.

GM Wombat

OOC: Bump

Gordon shrugged. “I want to see how this all plays out. I’ll help you.” He moved over to the main computer station. When he got there he tapped his combadge.

=^=Gordon to Cadet Gloss, Report to Science Lab 1, I need your help.=^=

-Gordon, CE
- I am on my way Comander “Griffth double times it”
Griffth, Cadet

OOC: I am assuming at this point the package has been moved to the lab.

IC: Surra nodded to the Lieutenant and said, “Very good then. As soon as your cadet arrives and you configure the settings for the fields we can proceed.” She looked around and noticed that most of her cadets had stayed behind. This gave her as sense of relief, because honestly it would have been very difficult for her to do this on her own . ” She grabbed a tricorder and scanned the object for one last assessment. Afterwards she said, to all the cadets and officers in the room, “So from this point on hold off on any further actions, until you get a command from myself or Lieutenant Gordon.”

Lieut. Almikaz (CSO)

Got it,Mam
Griffth, Cadet

“Cadet Gloss, Use that panel to help adjust the power levels on the force field.” He said, pointing to a near by panel. “When I activate the force field, keep an eye on the power levels and adjust them as needed.” Gordon explained as he prepared the forcefield.

The container is made from thick material that makes scans hard to make. The tricorder readings would show anything new, but close examination would reveal a smaller secured door, just a small rounded rectangle in the front.

Other than that, it just sits there.

GM Wombat

So is it Secured?
Griffth, Cadet

After a moment of working on the computer. Gordon said. “We are ready Lieutenant.”

-Gordon, CE

I Begin To Adjust the Power Levels. Griffth said. “Are we releaseing it now?”
-Griffth, Cadet
OOC:Forgot to put my name.

Surra nodded at the Lieutenant as she began to program the sequence for the circuit testing. “Hmmm....”, she said as she noticed the scans weren’t registering anything particularly new or useful. Then she saw it, the tiny door. “Wait! Everyone stop!” She pointed to the door. “Did anyone notice there was a door there?”

Lieutenant Almikaz-CSO

N-no i didnt. Get it out of the way.

Surra looked at the cadet and said “You do not move doors out of the way, you open them.”

Griffth, Cadet

OOC: Griffth, just so you are aware, you don’t need to lead your posts with >. That symbol is added to previous posts. So when you are ready to respond, just scroll to the bottom, hit enter a couple of times, and you should be good to go!

IC: The box continues to sit there, waiting for the load test. In case the GM misunderstood however, when the load test is applied a little red light briefly turns on under the door, but other than that is fairly inert.

GM Wombat

Is anyone gonna take it out?

Griffth, Cadet.

“Hold Off cadet, let the science guys handle it. Just be ready to adjust the forcefield. ” Gordon said quickly, hoping to stop the cadet from doing anything rash.

-Gordon, CE

I See. You need someone more experince.

Griffth, Cadet.

The red light seemed like some type of indicator. Surra assumed it meant the door was accessible and could be opened. She went over and put her hand on it. She wasn’t sure what was going to happen when she opened it but she was not one who was particularly afraid of the unknown. “There may be something in here.” she mumbled to herself as she opened it.
