Mara looked over at the commander,

“The simulation is going nicely sir, I just need a little more time to perfect everything so there isn’t much chance for error”

She turned to K’sang, a look of determination and perhaps even interest on her face.

“There are around 3 ways to dissipate a cloud, increase the temperature, mixing it with drier air, and sinking the air inside the cloud… I’m trying to work out which one is best in our situation” taking a breath, she thought for a moment, beginning to pace around in a thoughtful manner “Now if we could somehow replicate the heat of a sun and blast it straight at the cloud it should dissipate, another method is to somehow dry the air inside the cloud which will in turn cause it to erode… Or make the air so dense in the cloud that it begins to sink… What do you think?”

~ Cadet Mara Oxton {Engineer}

“Too much heat, good chance we could burn the ozone to a crisp with that kind of temperature. I was actually thinking a delta pattern volley of three to five torpedos at a lower yield to create a cascading effect somewhere between five to ten kilometers into the storm ahead of the colony. In theory it would create a brief intense electrical storm followed by the dispersed cloud window.
K’sang, Science Cadet

“You have a point, probably should have thought that through a little bit more. That could work, though we’d either need to keep the runabout at a fair distance or reinforce the hull to be able to sustain that force… If we calculate this the wrong way, then there’s a chance the brief storm could become catatonic to our systems… And we’re aiming to make it back in one piece!” She couldn’t help but giggle slightly at the last sentence, Mara always thought that a little bit of laughter was always good in dire or complicated situations, always lightened the mood.

~ Cadet Mara Oxton {Engineer}

“What are you thinking? Maybe some kind of Leyden jar to divert where the electricity is going if the runabout catches stray lightning?”
K’sang, Science Cadet

“We are definitely aiming to make it back in one piece,” Max said with a chuckle. “But assume for now that the runabout isn’t going to be down there, and that we only have the Challenger and our assets already on the ground. And let’s also try not burn off the atmosphere while we are at it. Okay?”

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

“Its doable” K’sang picked up a nearby Padd and punched in some numbers before setting it back down. “Running some simulations for class: L, M, and R planets. Shouldn’t take long to come up with something.”
K’sang, Science Cadet

The simulations came back in short order. Based on the parameters set for the computations, a Class L planet (what this moon was. Marginally habitable) everything seemed to work just fine. Nothing amiss and really quite inspired. M, likewise worked, with a smaller margin of error and possible catastrophic series of events. Highly unlikely.

R on the other hand… Given the parameters set the roundabout would crash into a Class R planet and cause a fissure that would break the small wandering planitode apart. This maneuver was not recommended for Class R planets.

GM Wombat

“Why so many different types of planets? Instead of just this one?” Max asked. It seemed like a waste of time to run simulations on atmospheres that they weren’t going to encounter. Especially since they knew what they were looking at.

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

He shrugged, “I wasn’t sure which type it was personally, so I wanted to be thorough.” K’sang paused what he was doing to check on the Padd, “It looks like we shouldn’t have any problems firing into the storm from orbit. Here, take a look” he said offering the Padd to Commander Harkness.
