“I’ve got a bad feeling about this Captain,” Max said looking over the data. “In theory the Ship should be able to handle it, at least according to these scans. But we don’t know what is deeper in the nebula. I guess it depends on how much we want to see if this nebula is the key to finding out what is in our cargo bay or not.”

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

Sam paused for a moment. His XO was right, they could easily take the ship into the nebula. The Captain was a bit curious to why many ships actually steered clear from entering it in the first place, especially if it could make for some great science discoveries.

“Well right now we have two options.” Sam stated, “We can go through the Nebula and hopefully find an answer to our secret cargo, or we can go straight to our destination and see who ends up taking it.”

NE Cruise Control hangs tight at the helm awaiting further orders, scanning the spot where the probe should pop out.

GM Wombat

Max was all for adventure, but he still kept getting a bad feeling. “I’m all for adventure Captain, but I’m going to have to vote that we just go to our destination. We might not get the answers, but we’d at least make it in one piece.”

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

Weir agreed with his First Officer. “We still have to collect the probe when it comes out, so we still have a few hours to wait before continuing on.” The Captain stated. Samuel walked over to the Helm.

“How long will it take us to rendezvous with the probe?”

Weir (CO)

The helm taps a few buttons and says, “About half an hour now, and it should be up there, probably twenty clicks away. I can calculate an intercept course and we can have it in our belly and on our way in an hour or two at most, sir.”

Wombat

“Perhaps Captain, after we recover the probe, we can use the data to get a better idea of what is in the nebula, and if it would be worth further investigation. How much leeway do we have in our rendezvous time for the delivery?”

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

“A few days…” The Captain replied, while pondering the idea of actually taking the ship into the nebula. “I’m certain if we we don’t arrive within the next day or two, they’ll send a ship out looking for us.” Weir added.

“Helm, lay in an intercept course, and when ready engage the engines.” Captain Weir ordered. They needed every second to count, especially if there was actually something in that nebula worth looking at.

“What if the probe was destroyed? What do we do then? Do we alert Star Fleet? Sinclair had a point. A ship could be in there.” Casen said as he walked around thinking.

Lieutenant (j.g.) Casen CoS

The helm laid in the course as directed and, without thinking anything more kicked the engines up to full impulse, cruising along at the little clip while the rest of the staff was kibitzing about what to do next.

GM Wombat

As the ship engaged it’s impulse engines, Gordon came on the bridge and walked over to his station to check on the readouts. Satisfied that all was normal in engineering, he turned his attention to the rest of the bridge.

  • Gordon, CE

The new Counselor came onto the bridge and took a spot on the back bulkhead, away from the operations of the bridge crew. He felt now was as good a time as any to begin seeing how the staff and crew functioned together, how their working environment influenced their interpersonal relationships, and how effective they were at working as a team. Such assessments were key to providing final fitness reports for the Cadets; and it would show him how the permanent staff worked together.

Korczak, CNS

“Well Lieutenant, if the probe is destroyed then it is destroyed. Our mission here is not to explore this anomaly. Our mission is to deliver this package, and try and teach the cadets as best as we can.

“What we can do if the probe is destroyed is pass the information along to Command, and they can determine if they want to send another ship out to look at the anomaly.”

In some ways though, Max was kicking himself for being the one using common sense. What had happened to the guy who used to jump into a mission head first, and ask questions later.

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

Just as predicted by the Helmsman, someone should give him a promotion, the probe appeared exactly where it was supposed to, exactly when it was supposed to, unfazed if a little gooey. Space dust dangling about it slowly dissipating. “The probe is waiting for us sir. Should I bring it aboard or just download the data directly to the Science Labs?”

GM

“Bring it aboard, we don’t want to leave any evidence that we’ve been here.” The Captain stated. “Science, once the data has been collected give me the results.” Weir doubted that they’d find anything useful in there, but it was better to be safe than not.
