“You know, Vulcans have this word that perfectly explains how I feel right now… Mol-Kom translated, it means Serenity”

~Cadet Mara Oxton {Engineer}

“Serenity is a nice word for it, but I’m missing something.” Sharah got up from the table and returned with a bowl of dark blue almost purple berries. Uttaberries were her favorite. Her father grew them at home in his garden. Every morning he would pick fresh ones for them to share at breakfast. She missed spending time with him, but the berries brought the memories back. Like the berries, the memories were very sweet.

“The spicier the better,” Kast confirmed, regarding his own taste in food. “Hasperat, and Moba cider,” He said into the replicator, joining the others at the table after a moment. “Apologies, my head was elsewhere for a second. Was remembering mother making hasperat. The smell of the brine filled up the house every time”

Cadet Satyol, Sciences

“I think food evokes some of our strangest memories, the smell, the taste, the sight, and then triggers such detail in memory. My father grew uttaberries in his garden and he would pick them every morning for us,” Sharah shared. “Betazoid food is seasoned heavily for flavor, but I haven’t gotten used to spiciness. I admit I love the flavor, but the burn takes awhile to get used to, for me at least.”

Mara smiled, she too could agree that food indeed sparked memories. For her, meatloaf gave her the memories of sitting around a table, her father shockingly sober and happy, her mother beautiful as ever, and her little sister all dressed up and laughing… It was one of the rare happy memories Mara remembered, it was why she ate meatloaf as often as she could, just to remember that day of utter peace and happiness before everything fell apart.

” I quite like spicy food, my mum sort of grew up in Mexico before moving to England and meeting my dad. She used to make food from home for us, spicy fajitas were a huge hit!”

~ Cadet Mara Oxton {Engineer}

Sharah steadfastly surfed above the noise and thoughts allowing them to come but refusing to listen. “Spicy fajitas? That sounds....risky.” Sharah laughed. “My mom and my brother cooked all the time. I enjoy it, but I didn’t really start cooking till a few years ago, and I’m afraid I’m not very good at it.” Her mother had been to afraid to let Sharah try. She was always afraid Sharah would get distracted and cut off a finger or something.

Mara giggled for a moment, and thought back to her childhood. Her mum had taught her how to cook from a very young age, and they regularly cooked Mexican food together for the family.

“I was basically raised with my parents teaching me new things, my mum taught me how to cook… My dad taught me how to fix numerous things back on Earth. My sister eventually taught me how to play the piano when she learned, and I taught her the ukulele”

Mara was always the type of person to think back on her past, eager to escape it but unable to keep it from her thoughts. Often, if she spoke about her family and her memories, she’d try to keep to the happy and joyful moments. Instead of the bad times. Her sister was the main source of all those happy moments, they were inseparable growing up and Mara missed her dearly.

Sharah smiled, “My brother was always teaching me things. I miss being around him.” Sharah checked the time. “I’ve got to run. I have an appt. You know we should start a book club.” Sharah waved and headed off before she was late for her check up.
Cadet Fayth, Doctor

“I agree, it would be great fun!”

She called out as Sharah walked off, she then finished her meatloaf and stood up, turning to face Satyol.

“I also should go, sort of miss my family again… Would like to see some videos of them!”

She then headed off on her own private little mission to feel closer to her family.
