“Well keep working on it for now, I’ll run it past the Captain. It’ll be up to her to decide if it is worth the risk or not in the end. But in the meantime, we have to make sure we are ready for the first part of the mission. Getting this runabout ready to extract survivors from the surface.”

Max turned towards the Cadets and looked at them directly. “So, is the runabout ready?”

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

“Just finishing up here, as far as the storm severity I don’t think it will be problematic by firing down wind of the colony. A tornado wont travel against the storm making any potental danger minimal. Unless theres a risk of detonating a natural gas vent or the like to cause a chain reaction. The ground will be more than adiquate for dispersal.” Clicking the service panel closed Ksang looked to Mara. ” How are you coming along?”

Mara looked over at K’sang, she had been thinking for quite some time and was sort of excited (yet quite a bit terrified) to show her theory.

“Assuming we use The Challenger to do this, it has 200 torpedoes using 4 tubes to disperse them. If we use 2 of the forward ones and shoot out 25 each, which makes 50 torpedoes fired at the storm. The heat from the explosion of those torpedoes should dissipate the cloud, but to ensure the ship’s safety we should fire the torpedoes at a distance and move the ship as soon as it’s possible to do so… There is always a chance for your theory of a tornado to be correct, but I think we should take the chance”

She then looked at the runabout’s systems and nodded a bit, as if to agree with K’sang.

“Everything seems to be in order with the runabout and I’m confident it can withstand this mission”

Ksangs eyes looked to be on the verge of falling from his eye sockets as he slowly turned back to Mara. ” I… Was thinking three. That many seems a bit overkill, not to mention leaving us vulnerable.”
Ksang Science Cadet

Mara looked at him for a second then started to giggle, a sort of excited and maybe even joyful look on her face.

“Aww and I wanted to see things go kaboom

Shoving him gently on the shoulder she giggled a bit more then ceased, settling her face in a smirk.

“Fun killer”

Mara then coughed a bit as if to center herself and stop the giggles, she was supposed to be serious and responsible after all!

“Meh, you’re right. Maybe 50 is too much… We’re trying not to break the entire planet, I was just testing you!”

~ Cadet Mara Oxton {Engineer}

Max chuckled. “Hey now, there is nothing wrong with a good boom. I’ve been at the center of many explosions.”

Standing up from the pilot’s seat he moved over towards the cadets. “So three? I think we can swing that, and still have room for some project overkill if needed.”

Max looked around the cockpit, everything looked ship shape.

“Okay, I’m gonna go brief the Captain. Get the runabout put back together and final preps so we can leave a moments notice. After that, stand down, grab a bite to eat. I want you to be rested in case we have to fly in for the rescue. Sound good?”

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

K’sang actually smirked as he shook his head. With a snap the access panel was back in place and he began carrying off unnecessary items to make more room for the flight. “I supposed one of my stomachs are empty enough for something.”
K’sang, Science Cadet

Max grinned. “Just be ready at a moments notice, you never know when we are going to have to swoop in and save the day. But in the meantime, call me if something comes up.”

Standing up, Max headed for the bay doors.

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

(bump)

Mara giggled slightly at K’sang’s way of saying he was hungry enough to eat something. She smiled at him and finished up what she was doing.

“Mind if I join you for lunch then?”

She didn’t quite want to admit it, but Mara was quite hungry, she often worked too hard to notice her hunger , and even had her head in a book for so long she often missed food.

~ Cadet Mara Oxton {Engineer}

“I thought you were lunch” K’sang replied with the click of his teeth, with an arrogant smirk the Klingon stood. “This must mean its your turn to pick the meal, replicators are terrible at real food.”
K’sang, Science Cadet

She thought for a second before having a sort of lightbulb moment, smiling she held out her hand in a sort of I-have-an-idea way.

“How about I cook lunch? My mum did teach me how to make an awesome chilli con carne, and we can’t let the replicator butcher that dish now can we?”

Unsure of how K’sang would react to her proposition, she stood there quite nervously. Was it too soon? Would he think anything of it? Would he decline her offer?

~ Cadet Mara Oxton

K’sang firmly clasped her forearm and practically lifted her to her feet, “This cold bowl of carnage must truly be an adversary worthy of Kathless! I can already see your trembling with excitement.” Matching her gaze the Klingon seemed to be looking beyond the quirks, it was as though he had really been looking at her as a person for the first time.
K’sang, Science Cadet

Flinching a little bit Mara settled into a small giggle, granted she had been a bit scared whether K’sang was going to hit her or not with the sudden movement. She shrugged to herself, I can trust him… He’s nice, and kind she never wanted her past to effect her present or future, so she just smiled at him and proceeded to explain what a chili con carne was.

“It’s a warm dish. Rice with a spicy and rich sauce with mince and kidney beans… Despite being called kidney beans they are not actual kidneys, they just look like tiny kidneys! See, a chili pepper is a sort of spicy plant-fruit-vegetable thing. And Chili con carne uses chili peppers to create an aromatic spicy dish!”

She laughed a little, she knew that Klingons weren’t that knowledgeable on human food, as humans weren’t very knowledgeable on Klingon foods. She quite liked trying new things, and felt that having a Klingon friend made it possible for two different species and cultures to come together.

~ Cadet Mara Oxton {Engineer}

“And people find ME confusing?” K’sang raised an eyebrow as he slightly tilted his head. “If its a warm dish, why would they call it chilly? For that matter how could something that sounds like the perfect depiction of the endless struggle to survive on the surface of Rura Penthe NOT have something living in it to stab with your fork?”
K’sang, Science Cadet

She giggled a bit, and thought back to that one time she was also confused on why they called it a Chili Pepper, and she decided to read a book on them.

” So their scientific name is capsicum Christopher Columbus (the man who sailed around the world and colonised America… Even though he took over an already colonised country) dubbed them a Pepper, for their similarity to a black pepper. Though he was heavily wrong as they’re not actually peppers. But we call them peppers anyway! See they’re very spicy and have now been grown around Earth because they make amazing foods when added with other ingredients! But they originated in Mexico! So how about it? Lunch with me?”

~ Cadet Mara Oxton {Engineer}

“To try a food that bites back even though it has no mouth!?! I’d be thrilled!” K’sang grinned as he walked along Mara for a well deserved break.
K’sang, Science Cadet

She smiled and nodded, as she began to walk out of the shuttlebay. Thinking for a moment she looked back at K’sang.

“What was that meat you got me to try once? Been thinking it would be nice as a meatball”

~ Cadet Mara Oxton {Engineer}

“Bregit lung. its not actually a lung. But it does come from a lizard.” he smirked in return “What is it with humans and turning every food into balls?”
K’sang, Science Cadet

Mara, as if struck by a hilarious joke. Turned around to fully face K’sang, a smirk on her face. She went on her tiptoes so her lips were almost touching his ear. Whispering quietly she had a giggling sort of sound to her

“Reminds us of something else”

Her eyes wavered downwards, before she moved away and continued to walk away from the shuttlebay.
