Korczak nodded and said “Well, I can assure you my goal is not to find weaknesses. My only goal is to ensure that you are mentally and emotionally ready for duty on a star ship, and no more. If I see something that would lead me to believe you are not, I would work with you to try and address it. But I promise you, there is nothing sinister or hidden in what we do as Counselors. Our goal is to make sure you can be a productive and effective crew member. That is all.”

Korczak, CNS

The cadet reflected his nod in acknowledgement. “Noted, sir. Is there anything else you’d like to ask?”

“Yes, there is. You say that you are concerned you may not know your weaknesses the way you think you do… what do you think your weaknesses are?”

Korczak, CNS

McMorran wriggled in her chair ever so slightly. “Well… I wouldn’t say I’m a strong improviser. I think that’s a significant weakness when serving on a starship.” She clenched her hands together on the table. “I… can tend to underestimate myself. I don’t think humbleness is necessarily a negative, however, especially within the chain of command. It might mitigate my… my free spiritedness though, help me to fit in. I am inclined to liking freedom to roam and make my own decisions.”

He nodded and then said “In what manner do you believe improvisation to be important on a star ship?”

Korczak, CNS

McMorran’s eyebrows rose in a reflexive reaction to what she viewed as a trivial question. “I mean, a starship is bound to encounter the unexpected in many forms. Life forms, phenomena, attacks. An away team needs to be ready to face… well, the unexplored and the unknown. I can’t think of much requiring improvisation moreso than that.”
