When the cadets try the door it opens up readily. There inside where 4 miners looking like they need a good meal. Many of them having bruises and cuts about their bodies along with some twisted ankles. All told it would be fairly easy to get them all out just a little effort and some fireman carries to the main lift.

Rainns signaled to the security team that had just arrived. “We’ve got some survivors here!” he said, motioning to the injured miners. “Let’s get them out of here right now!”

Schweitzer followed Lt. Tija to the mine entrance. He noticed Cadet Rainns from Security there. He also noticed the 4 miners there. None of them appeared to be seriously injured. Schweitzer ran a quick bio-scan of the room but found no anomalous readings. Schweitzer took a position near the door and awaited further instructions.

Mika lead her patient out, stopping at the entrance by Schweitzer. “Let’s wait for the others,” she said.

Like the rest of the security team, Nijix snapped into action. She cautiously headed inside the crate and began to assist the four miners toward the exit. Each time, she helped them to the next officer in line who then took them to the entrance. Thankfully, it wouldn’t take long due to the small number. When everyone filed out, she made sure to be the last one out.

As the last of the miners piled out they, and Borefar by aid of the cadets, hobbled their way to the main lift to take them to the surface. There was a problem however.

Once the last of the lost sheep got loaded into the lift, the repulsors strained against the weight. Having been off alignment due to the shifting earth and poor maintenance, the platform lurched to one side, wedging Tavium’s arm between the control panel and her own body, the force of the shudder folding her arm upon itself. With a loud SNAP the humerus snapped in a torsional fracture.

After but a few moments the lift stabilized and came to a halt at the top of the shaft, Tavium’s arm limp and broken, and the miners more or less safe, the reprieve was not for long however. The dragging side of the lift had caused reverberations through out the mine complex and the whole building shook and more of the tunnels below them collapsed.

Rainns watched and heard Taviums arm get broken. With a blank face he turned to Mika. “You might want to do something about that.” He said in an unemotional voice, the shock of what he had witnessed not yet registering with him.

A loud gasp escaped Mika as she heard the sounds from deeper in the cave. The sounds of the collapse was loud enough, but on top of that, she’d heard Tavium get injured. Worry began to grow and she desperately hoped the COS was okay. The building shook as caves beneath them collapsed, and she hung on to the wall for a brief moment.

And then Rainns turned to Mika, delivering a line seemingly completely devoid of emotion, and Mika’s face turned to one of utter shock. ”That’s your department head, and that’s all you’ve got to say? Or do? What, are you a Vulcan?” She said, her voice raised a pitch in shock. She couldn’t believe that anyone would have so little to say about something like that. She didn’t even know Lieutenant Tavium that well, and she could feel her heartbeat quickening. If it had been Tija, who Mika had grown to look up to? She’d probably have lost it. Fighting to calm herself down, she turned and raced deeper into the caves.

“Lieutenant Tavium! Are you okay?” She called as she headed back toward the Lieutenant’s location.

When Nijix lost balance and tossed to the side, she felt the bone break apart. All color drained from her skin as she held it close. Her leg collapsed bring her down to one knee. It all seemed surreal. The pain hadn’t been the first to hit her. Only the shock causing her to jaw to lock and stop her scream in her throat, a sour lump ready to vomit out. The sound continued to echo in her brain even when her own cadet turned to Mika and calmly noted it.

She whimpered when the lift stabilized and came to a halt. Everything around became muffled while her mind slowly pieced together what happened. It took a moment before Nijix finally heard the words from Mika. Sweat poured down her skin to indicate something wrong.

“I got a spiral fracture in my upper arm. I’m in shock and having trouble registering things due to adrenaline. It won’t take long before my body realizes the damage. I need a dose of acetaminophen or the pain will be crippling.” Her voice shook with an eerie calm.

Nodding quickly, Mika gave her a dose out of her med kit and continued treating her.

Just then, the Chief Engineer’s voice came over everyone’s comm badges.

=^= Vras to all away team members. This facility is coming down, and is coming down fast. We need to do an emergency evacuation. If Challenger can’t transport us, head straight to the runabout. =^=

(OOC: If you are out of the turbolift, does that mean the two locations are merging at the top?)

-Lt. Keval Vras, CE

Rainns stared as Mika tended to Tavium, the shock of what he had seen registering. Suddenly, Vras’s came over his combadge, the message suddenly brought Rainns back to the situation. Looking over at Tavium and Mika his expression changed from emotionless to serious and engaged he then turned to the other people on the lift. “Everybody, make sure that if you are an able bodied person you help somebody who isn’t. Time is of the essence. Make sure that anybody who can’t make it on their own has a buddy. We aren’t leaving anybody behind.” He turned back to Mika, “Sorry for that brief mental checkout. I’m back.” He looked at Tavium, “If you need help moving, I got you.”

Upon hearing Rainn’s offer, Nijix nodded. “Shock does strange things to us. I’m literally frozen in place right now.”

She inhaled then continued. “I don’t trust my legs to remain upright. They feel more like jello from a replicator than anything sturdy. Even with the painkiller. Tavium is worried he might lose another host.”

  • Lt. Nijix Tavium, CoS

Mika nodded. “I’m here to help as well. We’ll need to be careful but quick.” She said, looking between Tavium and Rainns, and the other evacuating personnel. “Once we get out of here, you’re headed straight for the sickbay.” She told Tavium. She put on a serious, calm face, but inside she was shaking and she felt ill from nervousness. Her hands were so sweaty, she thought she’d drop her med kit or her tricorder, and she was making a strong conscious effort to keep her voice from shaking. She just wanted out of there as quick as possible, and back to the ship. She did her best to look calm, as if she wasn’t bothered at all by anything happening around her.

Rainns shook his head. “He will not be losing a host on my watch Lieutenant. I promise you that.” He got on one knee, ready to help Tavium get to her feet once they were ready to leave the turbolift.

Lt. JG Joseph Rainns- COS

As they got ready to leave the turbo lift, the familiar sensation of a transport sequence came over the team and they soon found themselves in the Challenger’s Sickbay, safe and sound…
