It was fascinating to see the Challenger’s Sickbay. The Federation was at the cutting edge of most medical technologies. T’Mor would have chosen to be a medical officer, if it hadn’t been for botany. It was easy for her to focus there for some reason. She did not feel out of control. She just stood, observing the equipment and procedures, the perfect synchronization of so many beings, as if they were all part of one cell. This was calming as she waited for her medical exam.

OOC: Welcome aboard the Challenger! This is a great first post! I do just want to mention that here on STF we sign our posts, just so we know who’s talking. It doesn’t matter how you do it, as long as you put your character’s name at the bottom of your post, like how I’ve done at the end of this one.

IC:
The sickbay, while usually busy, was currently very slow. A few staff members sat reading a book, while others worked on research projects and other such things. The sickbay was an orderly place, it seemed everything and everyone had somewhere to be. Mika came out of her office just then, and catching the eye of the new Cadet, headed over. The chief medical officer was a short woman, at 5‘4’‘, with brown hair which now reached just below her ears. She preferred it shorter, but she hadn’t had time to get it cut in some time. She wore a friendly smile which nearly never seemed to go away, with cheerful blue eyes.

“Hello! You must be T’Mor. I’d heard there was a new Cadet,” She said. “So. You’re here for your medical check in, right? Pick a biobed, any biobed, and we’ll get started.”

~ Lt JG Mika, CMO

T’Mor laid down on the nearest biobed so that the doctor could start with her vitals. She was not used to so much attention, but at the same time she had just arrived. The doctor though seemed very polite, and her cheerful smile was soothing in a way. Besides, it wouldn’t make logical sense for a doctor to ignore her patients. It also wouldn’t be polite if T’Mor did say anything back.

“Thank you.” she said, for lack of a better response.

Reading a PaDD, Mika looked quickly through T’mor’s file. “Is there anything you need to add to this? Anything that wouldn’t be in here that should be? Things like, changing in habits, like eat or sleep or a trip outside the federation?” She asked, reeling off the standard question, and then she looked at T’mor. Meeting all the Cadets was one of her favorite parts of the job, and so she was always quite personable during these things.

OOC: Okay, I’ve updated my profile with more med info. Something more to talk about if you want. Otherwise it is just there.

T’Mor stared up at the ceiling from the biobed.

“I have recently developed a…” she hesitated. However, in this situation there was a duty to be truthful. This was talking to a senior officer, a doctor none the less. She had no right to worry about her pride. “I’ve developed a rash on my upper arm. I’m not certain of what type.”

-Cadet T’Mor, Science Dept.

OOC: Oooh! Nice bio XD

IC:
Mika’s expression changed slightly, but she covered it with another friendly smile. “Let’s see it. I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about,” she said, picking up her tricorder. She didn’t want to worry the Cadet - and then she remembered: T’Mor was Vulcan. Still not a reason to tell her things she really didn’t need to know, but she likely wouldn’t be anxious or worried.

~ Lt JG Mika, CMO

T’Mor pulled up her right sleeve just enough so Mika could see it. Her upper arm had collections of raised, greenish welts, similar to hives. A minor amount of swelling, as expected from a Vulcan. There were also clear signs of scratching and itching at the bumps. It was difficult to distinguish simply by sight whether they were related to the speculated allergy or the result of something else.

“They appeared shortly before I boarded to leave the planet,” she said, “There was really no time then to have them examined. If you don’t mind me speculating, perhaps it was caused by something I was exposed to while in transport.”

She preferred this explanation. It was reasonable, logical, and did not involve any failure on her part. It had nothing to do with her stress. T’Mor was Vulcan. Vulcan’s should have complete control of their bodies. It was always made clear that the failure to voluntarily control every aspect of the body was a failure of the mind. For years she had tried to master such things. Instructors claiming it was because her mind was ‘clouded with emotion’ and if she could just focus and mediate she could master it easily.

-Cadet T’Mor, Science Dept.

OOC: I’ll admit to being lazy here, but my idea is that this could be a stress rash, and that she is using allergies or exposure to something new as an excuse (even to herself). I don’t know if Mika could verify that though, but I’m giving you this info just in case.

OOC: Okay! I’d say that’s not lazy tbh XD and sorry for the slow response there.

IC:
Mika scanned the rash with her tricorder, watching the screen. “…No. Not allergies. It does look rather like hives…” Mika had a guess of what it might be, in fact, she’d given it to herself a few times. Stress-induced hives. But T’Mor was a Vulcan, and Mika got the impression that she would not like that diagnosis. Still, she felt the need to share her idea. “I believe this is a case of stress induced hives. It’s quite common. It’ll go away on its own - as long as you stop itching it.” And with that, she gave T’Mor a stern look. “But if it doesn’t do come back.”

She added the incident to T’Mor’s medical file, putting it in as a suspected diagnosis. “Any other concerns before I get the exam part done and over with?”

~ Lt JG Mika, CMO

“That is everything.” she replied.

T’Mor had to push down her embarrassment. It was necessary, though, to be sure it wasn’t something worse. After all, it would have been an even greater embarrassment to have possibly brought aboard an infectious disease and put the crew at risk. She slowly sat up on the biobed.

Though their were very few people around, T’Mor felt the need to lower her voice to just above a whisper,

“I will be sure to keep the medical staff updated with any changes.”
