“No…, not history of blackouts, well not like this. I have a family history with neurological diseases, but –” Eric was cut off by the comms.

=/\= Davis to Rainns. I require an update as to your investigation. =/\=

Davis, CO (crosspost)

-Cmdr. Eric Holmman, XO

Rainns waited for the internal ship communication records to show a call to Holmman on the date in question. He looked up at the sound of the Captain’s voice. =^= Rainns to Davis, Counselor Hilo and I are interviewing Commander Holmman and collecting his statement. =^= He looked to Holmman, “Don’t let that stop you commander, please continue.”

“There’s not much else to add,” Eric said. “My father had a neurological disorder, but my sister and I both tested negative for it. And while as a cadet I may have been the bane of my instructors’, I never blacked out to the point of losing almost 12 hours of memories…”

=^=McMorran to Rainns. It may be relevant for you to know that the security feed of the XO’s quarters appear to have been compromised.=^=

Lt. J.G. Aili McMorran - CSO (Crosspost)

With Eric’s head clearing, and focusing more on his memories from last night, his instincts and habits began to kick in. He stoop up from his seat, eyes focusing. “Rainns, Hilo, I thought this was just an accident, although one that I couldn’t recall for some reason. But between the call for me to come to my quarters just before my memory faded, and now this issue with security cameras, there’s something more going on here. We need to provide a full report to the Captain now.”

(OOC: Keep in mind that I don’t think anyone in this thread knows the autopsy results.)

-Cmdr. Eric Holmman, XO

Hilo looked at Rainns as Holmman stood up. He was very aware that the autopsy report hadn’t been communicated to them yet, and that’s what made him nervous. By Holmman’s own admission, this was seeming less and less like an accident. Which, unfortunately for Holmman, meant that Hilo was wary of his involvement, considering he was the only person they had connected to the scene.

“Maybe it’s best if we stay here until we receive orders from the captain to relocate,” he said diplomatically. “This whole situation has thrown the ship into a bit of a frenzy, and we wouldn’t want to get in anyone’s way on the bridge or en route to it.” Hilo rose from his chair as well, but moved to the replicator on the wall of the chief of security’s office. “Do either of you want anything to drink?” Not too subtle of a ‘good cop’ routine, but it wasn’t a disingenuous gesture. Hilo was feeling a bit dry in the mouth himself, and promptly ordered a glass of water. He glanced at Rainns apologetically as he sipped the drink, hoping the Lieutenant wasn’t offended by him taking the initiative to use his facilities.

(Lt. Cmdr. Hilo, Counselor)

=/\= Davis to Rainns. Dr. Mika has informed me that the cause of death is strangulation, not drowning. This investigation is now a homicide. =/\=
=/\= Davis to Holmman and Hilo. Commander, following the determination of cause of death as strangulation, I am hereby relieving you of duty as Executive Officer of the USS Challenger. You are expected to cooperate with Lieutenant Rainns and remain in your quarters once you have completed your statement in his office. Commander Hilo, you are appointed acting Executive Officer. =/\=

Davis, CO (crosspost)

Strangulation? Eric thought to himself.

“Strangulation?” he repeated a loud. Eric’s mind started racing, as he tapped his comm badge. =^= Understood, Captain. But if it’s not me - and I hope you trust me that it’s not - then there’s a killer aboard who is able to easily interfere with the ship’s secondary systems. The crew could be in danger… =^=

Eric sighed, his thoughts returning to normal, and pieces of this mystery started sliding together in his mind. He sat back down in his seat. “What other questions do either of you have? I’ve told you everything I can recall at this point,” Eric pointed out. “If I’m relieved of duty, I would like to return to my quarters.”

-Cmdr. Eric Holmman, XO

=^= Acknowledged =^= Rainns responded to Davis’s update. “I believe Strangulation is the word of the day Commander yes.” Even though Rainns comment was a sarcastic one riddled with dark humor, his expression was serious, and he had a glare in his face. He turned to Hilo, “I don’t believe there is anything more I need to hear, although a confession would be nice.” He turned back to Holmman. “I’ll have a security officer escort you to your quarters commander.” He said solemnly. “If you are innocent, we will get this cleared up.” He turned back to his display screen, seeing if his inquiry into the internal ship logs indicated who had summoned Holmman to his quarters.
