=/\= Mika to Captain Davis, I’ve got some interesting results here. I’d say she died 3 - 6 hours before we found her. Looks like she fought judging by the state of her finger nails. And one other thing… she was strangled, not drowned. =/\= Mika said over the comm system to the Captain, reporting her findings.

~ Lt JG Mika, CMO

Emmy’s expression mirrored the previously excited Trill’s bafflement quickly as she attempted to process what that information might mean. Before she got far into that, however, her comm badge chirped with the message from the CMO, which conclusively proved that Ensign Janga was not still alive…

=/\= Davis here. Please confirm the identification of the body as Ensign Janga. The computer is reporting that she is alive and well in Sickbay. =/\=

Turning to the Trill, she instructed, “run the scan again.”

Anticipating that the result was likely to come back as an issue with the computer, Emmy tapped her comm badge again:

=/\= Davis to Rainns. I require an update as to your investigation. =/\=

Depending on what he’d found out, she had a very unpleasant task in her near future…

Davis, CO

Seezra nodded and tapped in the command to repeat the scan.

“Affirmative Ensign Pey Janga is located In the sickbay. ” The computer responded unhelpfully.

GM Wombat

The ensign pulled an almost comically confused expression as she looked up to the captain. After a few seconds of thought, she set the computer to run a level one diagnostic of the system indicating the wellness of Janga.

-Science Department-

After several minutes, Mika came back over the comm. =/\= Captain, this is definitely Janga Pey. My tests are quite conclusive. My Ensign is… well, dead. The computer must be malfunctioning. =/\=

~ Lt JG Mika, CMO

Emmy let out a slightly audible groan. It was fortunate for her XO that it seemed like things were not quite what they seemed, but it also meant that it would be quite a while before they had any information about what exactly was going on.

=/\= Thank you, Doctor. Davis out. =/\=

=/\= Bridge to Engineering. The computer is reporting that Ensign Janga is alive and well in Sickbay when she most definitely is not. I’m going to need a full diagnostic, immediately. =/\=

Davis, CO

=/\= Understood Captain =/\= Zenzgii directed an ensign on duty to take over his panel as he moved to collect a mobile kit “Computer, notify all Engineering Cadets to report to the Sickbay immediately. I’m on my way now to meet them.”

Zenzgii, CE
((OOC: Thanks for the start, I lost the previous post in splits. Wasn’t sure when to start ours.))

=/\= Update me as soon as the preliminary diagnostic is complete. I want to know what’s going on. =/\=

Davis, CO

=^= Rainns to Davis, Counselor Hilo and I are interviewing Commander Holmman and collecting his statement. =^=

Lt. Jg. Joseph Rainns- COS

=/\= Davis to Rainns. Dr. Mika has informed me that the cause of death is strangulation, not drowning. This investigation is now a homicide. =/\=

Now, with no other information to go on yet, Emmy had an unpleasant task ahead. She had barely had the chance to get to know her new XO, but with the evidence that had been presented so far, it would be best for both him and the Challenger to remove him from the chain of command on the ship.

=/\= Davis to Holmman and Hilo. Commander, following the determination of cause of death as strangulation, I am hereby relieving you of duty as Executive Officer of the USS Challenger. You are expected to cooperate with Lieutenant Rainns and remain in your quarters once you have completed your statement in his office. Commander Hilo, you are appointed acting Executive Officer. =/\=

Davis, CO

=^= Acknowledged =^=

Lt. Jg. Joseph Rainns- COS
Holmman’s voice came back in reply. =^= Understood, Captain. But if it’s not me - and I hope you trust me that it’s not - then there’s a killer aboard who is able to easily interfere with the ship’s secondary systems. The crew could be in danger… =^=

-Cmdr. Eric Holmman, XO

Emmy’s reply offered no insight to her emotional response to his statement: =/\= Understood, Commander. =/\=

She spoke again: =/\= All hands, this is the Captain. All crew not on duty are hereby confined to quarters pending a homicide investigation. Thank you. =/\=

Davis, CO

=^= Understood, Captain. I’ll rendezvous with you on the bridge shortly. =^=

(Lt. Cmdr. Hilo, Counselor)

A thought occurred to Emmy as she pondered the next several hours. It sounded like the teams were still investigating the situation in Holmman’s quarters and, eventually, his interview would be complete. He couldn’t go back to his quarters for now and, while he was relieved of duty, he certainly hadn’t done anything yet to warrant being placed in the brig, so he’d need another location to go to. Thankfully, she mused, they had no guests on board, so he could stay in those quarters for the time being.

=/\= Please set Commander Holmman up in our guest quarters while his quarters are actively investigated. =/\=

Davis, CO
