Cadet Polis felt the tingle run through his body as the transporter beam took hold. He watched the shuttlebay disappear and be replaced by the more welcoming lighting and colour of the sickbay walls. As soon as he materialised, the pain from his burnt hand shot up through his arm, a not so gentle reminder of why he was here.
He glanced down, the fingers on his left hand scorched black and his palm starting to blister. Not a plesent sight so he looks away and around the room. “A little help”, he asks politely…

Buckingham dashed into Sickbay with a look of urgency and concern on his face. He had a call that there was a Casualty so he had gotten there as quickly as he could. “Nurse, get this man onto a Biobed” He ordered, as he walked across Sickbay, removing his Medical Tricorder from his Lab Coat Pocket. He arrived at the Biobed that Polis had been placed on, the NE Nurse stood by his side. “Hello Cadet” Tom said as calmly as possible. He opened his Tricorder and began to move it up and down the Cadet’s body. He then focused more specifically on Polis’ arm. Tom looked away from the Tricorder and looked down at the Cadet’s scorched arm. He grimaced slightly, this was not a pretty sight. He then looked Polis in the face. “I’m Doctor Buckingham” He said as he smiled slightly. “But you can call me Tom. I need you to tell me, on a scale of one to ten - one being hardly any pain at all, and ten being the worst pain you’ve ever felt - How would you rate your pain? The answer to Tom’s question would determine how he would go about his treatment.

Cadet Polis put on a brave face and looked at Tom. “I’d say a 4”. He winced in pain and looked up to the ceiling, ” multiple by 2”. Polis never tried to miss an opportunity to show his sense of humour. “How long left have I got Doc? If I don’t make it, please tell my mom..... I ate those cookies she hand made for her work party, and I blamed the dog”. Looking back down at Tom with a smile, but the pain clearly showing through.

Buckingham smiled as Cadet Polis joked. He appreciated his humour, it seemed to take some of the pressure out of the situation. “Well Cadet,” He said as he folded his Medical Tricorder up and put it back in his pocket. “I’m sure you’ll be pleased to hear that you don’t have to suffer that wrath of you Mother quite yet.” Tom joked. “But I’m sure it goes without saying that your Arm is burnt rather badly. It should be a relatively easy fix, it’s just going to take a little time to do.” Tom turned to the NE Nurse beside him. “Nurse, I’m going to need 2ml of Terakine, 200ml Inaprovaline and a Dermal Regenerator please” As the Nurse set off to retrieve those items, Tom turned back to Polis. “Do you have any allergies to have any types of medicine at all Cadet… um… I don’t believe I did catch your name?” Tom said, hoping to engage his patient in conversation until the Nurse returned. Hopefully it would make him feel more at easy and take Polis’ mind off it until a some pain relief was administered

“I’m sorry Doc, where are my manners? Polis, Ezio Polis.” He reached out his good right hand to shake the docs. “Only just got assigned to the Endeavour quite recently. I’m only out of the academy and this is my first posting.” Polis hadn’t realised but that simple question from the Doc got him talking and before he knew it the conversation completely distracted him from his hand. “I was only meeting the new Security Chief when all hell broke lose and we got caught up with that incident in the shuttlebay.” Polis rambled on. “Any ideas what happened? I ain’t never seen those aliens before”.

Buckingham shook Cadet Polis’ hand and smiled. “It’s a pleasure to meet you Ezio. I only wish we were meeting under slightly more pleasant circumstances” He joked. As Ezio spoke the Nurse returned to Tom’s side with the items he had requested.
“I’m afraid I’ve no idea what has happened” Tom said in response to Ezio’s question. “I’ve only been aboard a short while myself.” Tom cut the conversation short, so that he wasn’t keep the Cadet in pain for too long. “Now then, I’m going to give you a shot of Terakine, that’ll relieve the pain. I am also going to give you a shot of Inaprovaline, this should stop what bleeding there is and aid the process of tissue regeneration. Then I’ll start working with Dermal Regenerator to repair the damage to your arm, and you should all patched up after that.” He explained. “Is that okay?”

“Sounds good to me Doc”. Polis stretched out his left arm allowing the Doc to treat it. “But tell me, when your done, will I be able to play the violin?” He looked Tom in the eyes, “Cause I couldn’t before.” He allowed himself a smile at the treatment began.

“I’ll suppose we’ll just have to wait and see” Buckingham chuckled. “Right let’s get cracking then” He said. Tom administered the two Hypo-sprays and set up the Dermal Regenerator while he waited for the medicines to take effect. Once everything was ready Tom held the Regenerator over Ezio’s wrist and started working.

Tom worked diligently. The amount of concentration was visible on his face. This was not a very serious procedure, but he still wanted to make sure that a thorough job was done. He stopped occasional to make sure that his patient was well and as comfortable as he could be.

Tom was uncertain how much time had passed for him to finish the job, but it certainly felt like a while. “There we go” He said as he straitened his back and stretched. “Okay Ezio, That ought to do it. How do you feel?” Tom asked, though the question would be slightly redundant in regards to Ezio’s arm because the painkiller Tom had administered was a strong one. He just wanted to ensure the Ezio felt well in general, after all they’d been there for a little while.

Polis stretched out his arm, inspecting it front and back. There was no sign of an injury any more. He swung his legs off the biobed and stood up straight. He gave a Doc a firm but friendly slap on the arm using the formally injured hand. “Great job Doc. Feels like a whole new hand. I think I owe you a drink in 9 forward for that.” Polis took a few steps towards the sickbay doors and spun around. “If theres nothing else, I assume I’m good to go?” He asked positively. Maybe it was the pain meds but he did feel jolly.

Polis may want to check back in in a couple of days just to make sure that there was no other issues that cropped up. The burns were serious in some places and another scan of nerves and the fingers would be in order. Polis would sense that some of his ‘feeling’ was not entirely 100% just yet.

OOC: It should come back in short order, but another check would be recommended

Tom watched as Polis moved towards the door. “Well, lets not be too hasty now” Tom said. “Your arm was burn quite severely. It may feel fine now, but I have given you a very strong dose of pain killer, which will - in time, wear off.” Tom said quite seriously. “We will only know if it has fully healed once it has worn off, so what I will say is that you come back to see me in two days time, we’ll run some scans and make sure that everything is as it should be.” Tom paused a moment before returning to his normal friendly tone of voice. “In the meantime, I’d like you to only perform light duties. Don’t over exert yourself. And if it starts to hurt once the medication has worn off, come down and see me immediately. Other than that, you’re more than free to go. But just take it easy!” Tom said as he smiled at the Cadet.

Ezio Polis entered sickbay. It had been a few of days since the shuttlebay incident and just as Tom predicted, the pain was starting to return in his left hand. It was nothing serious he hoped but better to get it checked with the Doc before his transfer. He looked around for Tom.

Instead he bumped into Marlene, almost literally. She was coming out of her office, and apparently not paying attention, up until the last second when the two almost collided.

“Watch where you’re going!” Marlene snapped, brushing the hair from her eyes. It was only then that she looked at who it was. Upon seeing Ezio, she gave a sly smile.

“Well hello there, is there anything I can help you with?” She asked, a hint of sultriness in her tone.

-Lt. Marlene Judas, CMO

Polis was a little taken back, was she coming onto him?. “Hi Doc” he said with more surprise in his voice then he had intended. He composed himself, “I’m just in for a check up. Tom did some work on my hand when it got burned. Told me it might become a little tender when the meds wear off..... He was right. Figured I should get the all clear before I transfer to the Odin.” Polis held his left hand up. There was no physical damage to see but it was a subconscious thought that the Doc could visibly see the tingling that he felt.

Following his thorough medical check by the fascinating CMO, Cadet Polis finished up in sickbay and returned to his quarters. His transfer was now due to happen and he was looking forward to the begining of his career on board the USS Odin.
